xDEEP NX Zen Wing Review | This Wing Is The Best!!

Спорт

The xDEEP NX Zen is simply the best wing I've ever had the pleasure of diving with and here is why. After owning several wings I've made my choice, never again. I found them hard to put on, uncomfortable and a hassle to re-adjust every time I decided to change suits. All these points are tackled by the xDEEP NX Zen with ease and it made me fall back in love with wings all over again.

    I bought one about a 7-8 month ago I guess, when they just introduced the new colors and got myself a pink one, haha. After many month I must admit that it´s really a good wing. I lack experience with other wings but what I comment on is that, like you mentioned, the stability is incredible. For me as a Wing newbie I felt safe right away. No falling over on the surface, no instability under water in whatever situation. I bought the standard version with stainless steel bp cause deluxe paddings need to be countered by weight. My 3mm wetsuit does not need any additional weight. The bp is so heavy that I even have to inflate the wing to float. In a 7mm wetsuit, 5mm boots, gloves and hood I carry about 5kg extra when mounted a 10L steel tin. But I do disagree on one point, my standard version does not have to be re adjusted in order to fit a 3mm or 7mm. once you made it fit for the 3mm and dont cut too much of the leftover webbing you simply can close it no matter what. The inflator is quite good. The only reason for me to use the valve at the bottom is when I dive to head first and really need to dump some air. Other than that the middle valve works perfectly. I have yet to buy those medium size weight pockets cause wearing a weight belt above the v crotch strap is a pain. It slides down from time to time (using soft led). Overall I am really happy. It is convenient, easy to assemble, looks great and let´s me move around freely without feeling the weight at all.

    I believe the Ghost is the travel BP&W from X-Deep. That one's got a lower lift capacity than the Zen. When you're going with a fixed TEC harness, I believe there isn't much difference between the brands. It's back to basics, and that means they all pretty much end up at the same place. The XDeep and the Mares have nice skeletonized backplates. The Apeks PSD wings have a nice hydrophobic coating. I love the XDeep products. They're so innovative.

    For good reason I still love my Halcyon Infinity BC system. It does not have failure points, like buckles which after some time requires replacement, easy and adjustable with the cinch system. I have been using it since 2010 and I am still a happy camper.

    Bought it just now (basic harness + additional deluxe fast release buckets and padding). Great feeling to have a really nice thing. Do you have any tricks and/or do's/don'ts while setting up a brand new xdeep Zen? Because of this fucking virus and pandemie I don't know when I can go diving again (as the most fellow divers in the world, I think...). But I spend time learning theory of diving physics and medicine after home office. Stay safe!

    Great wing you bought! We are very happy with it and still dive with it. The best way to set it: put it on and see if you can touch the top of the backplate with your hand. You should just be able to touch the top. The crotch strap should be long enough to reach your belly button. When you put your elbows in your side and stick your thumbs out and move your arms to your shoulders, the place where your thumbs end up is where you would want to place the d-rings on the shoulder straps. Does this make sense? It's a bit hard to describe via text.

    Both are great but I would slightly favor the xdeep since it will give you a bit more flexibility. You can change out the backplate from steel to aluminum, pick the size of weight pockets you want and if you buy the standard version you can choose to make it a deluxe whenever you want. Don’t get me wrong, we really like the hydros as well!

    why does the deflator not work on a BP/W setup?

  • @bloodymarvelous4790

    @bloodymarvelous4790

    8 ай бұрын

    It works, but a BP&W puts you in a (near) perfect horizontal trim position. You need to lift the deflator above the wing, which is hard to do. If you can manage, it works fine, else there's the butt dump.

    You should be teaching in the same setup the students are diving so you can demonstrate skills. If you're wearing a BP&W, and your students are in a jacket style, you're diving different configurations. If the students are using BP&W setups as well, then yeah, you can teach with this setup.

    That's the one thing of marketing blurb that I have difficulty with as well. The corrugated hose is in the middle, and they've eliminated the elbow "for increased airflow". It's a BCD. What good is "increased airflow" going to do you when you're inflating the thing? I have the Apeks WTX wing, and the inflator hose comes with a pull dump. Since the hose comes in on the back/top of the BCD, that will always vent your BCD when you're in trim.

    What's the point of having a backplate/wing system if you are going to cover it in padding and plastic buckles and quick release weight pockets? Just buy an all-in-one wing-style BCD, such as the Hollis LTS (which is an excellent BCD, comfortable, tough and durable, and certainly a lot cheaper than this X-Deep).

  • @bloodymarvelous4790

    @bloodymarvelous4790

    9 ай бұрын

    The Hollis LTS isn't a modular system. If you want to move into twins, you still need to buy a backplate and wing. Also, there's nothing wrong with making a BP&W comfortable. The point of a Hogarthian setup is not to make it as uncomfortable as possible, but to reduce failure points. If you're not planning on moving into technical diving, and prefer an easily adjustable harness, the XDeep Zen Deluxe is a great BCD.

    xDEEP is severely over priced. I had an xDEEP wing with those weight pockets. I would only put one 2 lbs weight in each pocket and after every dive the pouches with the weights would hang in the straps by their cloth handles. If only the weight pouches didn't load from the front when seated which is downwards when diving but from behind which would be forwards when diving it would alleviate that problem. I'm putting together my own lightweight wing, 20lbs lift, lightened alu backplate, single tank adapter and 2" webbing easily adjustable with the use of quick adjust buckle cinch adapters, two tank straps and a set of weight pockets for under US$300.

  • @bloodymarvelous4790

    @bloodymarvelous4790

    Yes it can, as long as your cabin bag stays within weight and size limits. Many people attach a dive knife to their harness. That obviously cannot go into the cabin. Make sure you put that in your checked luggage, or leave it at home. Else it gets confiscated and you won't get it back.

    There are two versions of ZEN: Deluxe and Standard. The Standard version has no buckles and it's made of one single piece of webbing, thus it's 100% "DIR" compatible. Regarding the safety of Deluxe version, we use original, american-made ITW Nexus buckles. In the past years have sold several thousands of pieces of different BCs with the same buckle system and no single failure has been reported. It proves that ZEN Deluxe is 100% safe.

  • @bloodymarvelous4790

    @bloodymarvelous4790

    8 ай бұрын

    @@EnergiZeScuba DIR stands for Doing It Right. It's considered the gold standard for configurations. DIR setups require a single piece harness, threaded through a backplate, with a wing bladder and a crotch strap. It should only have 5 D-rings: one on each collarbone, one on your left hip, and two on your crotch strap. Your regulator should be in a long hose configuration, which means a 210cm hose on your primary, and a short hose on your secondary which should be on a necklace. Your SPG (submersible pressure gauge) should be a simple brass and glass SPG without a rubber boot around it. As for the comment from @ObanHighlander that a non-DIR setup is not safe, that's absolute bullshit. Other setups are perfectly safe for recreational use. They just may not be the best choice for more extreme forms of diving like wreck or cave diving. Anything that can get caught (snag) or break should either be eliminated or have a back up if you're doing penetration dives.
