No they won’t. Xbox will be relegated to going third party at best. Nintendo and even a struggling Sony are the only players in the game.

After almost 5 months nobody in my group of friends has bought an xbox one. The irony is that all of us played together on our 360 now we all have a PS4.

I'm on the same boat guys...I've always had 360 and origional xbox. NEVER owned a PS in my life, only cuz I was just used to xbox and I liked the controllers better. After this pathetic and greedy attempt, I have lost ALL respect for Microsoft man. I'll be getting a PS4 soon, and guess what... I'm liking the new PS4 controller design! I got to try one the other day and I have no complaints. :) -Oh, yeah...and plus I get to play "The Last of Us." I always wanted to try that game.

Five years later into the 2022s... This used to be a joke, or a comparison. Now, it is actually happening. You buy a car, and certain features, performance modes, etc which are built into the car, are locked off, behind a paywall. It breaks my heart as a car lover, especially of cars before the 2000s, to see where cars are headed.

@@peterk.2108back in the 2000s you would be able to have a disc for a game, I’d bring games to my neighbors house for us to play and vice versa, you’d be able to do co-op and split screen online, thats been completely destroyed, to the point where developers dont even put co op or split screen in games at all anymore.

Even after they removed all this, the reason they never recovered was their exclusives. From 2013 to 2020, there was no compelling reason to own an Xbox.

Exactly. Not only that but their exclusives have been garbage anyway. Quantum Break was a glitchy mess. It was supposed to be a Television Show Meets Video Game and it failed at that cause the acting and story was absolute shit. I bought the console all hyped for Gears 4 and 5 and they were garbage, nothing like the original trilogy. I played many more exclusives and I wasn't happy with them at all. Sold my One X and bought a 360 Elite again.

Yeah, companies are literally selling us save slots and gunsight dots for real money nowadays, not in-game currency. And especially now that more and more games are bought digitally, rather than a physical copy, companies have complete control over who and how many people have access to paid content. Gamestops will soon go the way of the Blockbusters. The future has bright and dark spots. It's all about doing the right thing. And as consumers, especially as gamers, we have no shortage of opportunities to band together and take the moral high ground even when it's not the easy choice. Especially when.

Better believe that they still intend to implement things like this. They only backed away because they realized how much of a failure it would have been. They are finding ways to get what they originally wanted through Windows 10 and possibly a new future console. Unless we fight back, this type of shit will be forced.

You can tell someone big at Microsoft watched this and said "shit, our customers aren't as stupid as we thought". Shame on them for having no understanding of their own market. I thought they were meant to be a top business!

I got a PS4, and I've been really happy with it. It is definitely the superior system. Xbox has become an afterthought in this generation. PS4 for console, and good ol' PC.

I used to be a Xbox 360 fan, I hated the PS3 but now I could not live without my ps4. I wouldn't care if someone took my Xbox one and threw it off a cliff

Yeah. I much preferred Xbox to PS2, Xbox 360 to PS3, but the massive gulf between the success of PS4 and the failure of Xbox One makes it hard to see why anyone will stick with Microsoft. Microsoft did for Xbox what they did for Nokia: constantly making all the worst choices.

Cynical Chimp Xbox 360 had the best exclusives on release. Halo 3, Gears of War. But after that, there’s this thing I like to call the “Metal Gear Solid 4 effect.” After that game got released, all PS3’s exclusives were just badass. MGS4, Uncharted 2/3, The Last of Us, etc. I remembered getting tired of my 360 and saying “man, all of the cool games are on PS3, also my 360 is having fucking RROD again... why am I still sticking to 360?” So yeah, idk if we can use the word “bland” considering PS3’s “blandness” had a waaaaay better catalog. PS3 just had the problem of being expensive as fuck on release, but it aged like fine wine... and ended up being better than the 360 imho.

xbox really cut me deep bro. i was a loyal xbox360 fan, fanatic, follower, worshipper. I'm talking 67 original games, kimect included, controller skins, daily appreciation of this piece of heaven, and the best bong-buddy anyone can ask for. I recently moved to a shithole called Tanzania, were internet connections are VERY limited. I managed to save up $900 to buy and import my long awaited xbox1 console, even bought a game to get my magical experience started. i recieved my long lost love, but then, i saw her for who she TRULY WERE. i had 1 hour to download a 4gig update via my mobile before i can even see what it looks like. No connection, no games, i found that out the hard way. WHY!??!? WHY WOULD YOU THIS?? ITS NOT EVEN BACKWARD COMPATIBLE WITH ALL MY OLDER GAMES! WWHHHYYYYY!?!?!? YOU BITCH! HOW COULD YOUUUU!!!

Well, i suggest you find a good bargain. And check for any unusual things happening to it. When you get it, gott be careful, those things break so easily but are expensive to replace.

All these years later, still awesome rant.

I remember these announcements like it was yesterday. The backlash was strong, hilarious, and justified. I would refresh my browser every few minutes for a fresh batch of memes. Those 10 days before MS changed their mind were a nice time to be a gamer. It was just so fun.

GOG.com (good old games) don't have _any_ DRM on the games they sell. They sell new stuff too, but _none_ of it has _any_ DRM.

Dude, I just watched a video on the last people that played Halo 2 on Xbox Live, even after the service got shutdown, they learned that if they left the console on and connected, they could keep playing, it was an awesome story.

Microsoft should get advice from you Joe. You are a great videogame, movie, and console reviewer. That should be a great job for you. You make sense in everything and every single detail in what mkaes a great game or any other thing. Keep it up Joe!

i cant even believe what xbox did with their marketing or somthing around that, they paid a "third party" to not have ps4 advertisements and only xbox they even used pc graphics not their own to display the xbox during their conference

Long long time ago, games came on cartridges. cartridges were super easy, We lent, borrowed, shared between friends. Then came along CD, but that wasn't any different than Cartridge. You pop the CD in console/PC. Enter the serial on PC and play. We brought games, contributing money with my friends, we all played and enjoyed them. On PC we can all play at the same time even. Then games on PC started requiring you to have the disk inside the drive in order to play the game. After a while, you needed to activate the game via internet before you can play. Now you need to download a software, give it your info, have it running it all the time on your PC, looking into your shit and stuffs, then and only then you can play the game. Near future - You'll need to enter your DNA, fingerprint and Eye scan into the computer/console. Then it will charge you $2 every time you launch the game, additionally charging $.25/hour. They will call it revolutionary and groundbreaking BIVPPP. Suckers like me will obey and follow, because we're just law abiding, tax paying good citizens. Pirates will shake their heads, raise their middle finger up and shout, FUCK YOU CORPORATE MOTHERFUCKERS!! And enjoy the games, without the strings. We will be told and believe that pirates are the bad guys, pirates are the one that should be put in jail for life, they are the one who should have their lives destroyed. Because, they are not law abiding, tax paying good citizens. They are worse, way worse. They are free people.
