    This is a fantastic reference. The only YT vid that has a shortcut on my desktop. I mainly use it to remind myself I need to spend more time with the 530. Every time I come back, it all makes more sense. I tried starting here a couple of months ago after being away from flight Sims for 30 years and it broke my brain. I really appreciate your enthusiastic explanations. 👋🇨🇦🤯

    Great video. On the last approach you were wondering why the aircraft was descending so steeply. It is a VOR-C which means no straight mins are published. This is usually for 2 reasons. Final apch crs more than 30 deg difference from runway or a descent steeper than 400 ft/nm from FAF to minimums MAP. I think that is the case for that approach..

  • @XPlanePhil

    @XPlanePhil

    On short flights, when you already know the weather at your destination, you will likely have the arrival and approach worked out beforehand, and you can program it before you even take off. On longer flights, there's a good chance the weather will change by the time to get to your destination. In that case, you usually only program the flight plan up until the last enroute waypoint, and then while you are in the air, get the ATIS or other weather information for your destination maybe half an hour before you arrive. Then you'll know what approach you're going to use, and then it's time to brief it and program it into the GPS.

    Good lesson on losing situational awareness @1:02:00 where while flying LPV, trying to cross reference waypoints from ILS chart which was temporarily brought up to look at the entry hold earlier. Rarely will a chart update change the names of all fixes, so this should have been a red flag something was wrong.

    Philipp, nice video. I fly in real life a DA42NG with G1000, WAAS and GFC700 and I just bought XP-11 for IFR proficiency training. Aerobask told me the DA62 G1000 is not really working perfectly under XP-11, I should wait for the XP-12 version. So right now I try to practice approaches with the Cirrus vision jet. However the GA button does not seem to work right. You mention in the video the "unsuspend" does not work, but that bug along with a couple of other bugs seem to have not been solved? Like on ILS approaches the GA button does not switch the CDI needle but after that is done manually the AP sequences to the first MA waypoint, while on GPS approaches I have to manually seuence to the first missed approach waypoint by going direct? I am using Augsburg airport EDMA which is where I fly. Or will an update with navidata help? Will the G1000 work better in XP-12? IFR approaches, go arounds, vnav etc.? The G1000 has many "gotcha's" in real life, I'd like to be able to replicate and practice them using XPlane...

    Thanks for creating this video. On the ILS 20R Approach to KSNA you did not perform the procedure turn. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I was taught in Instrument Ground School (I haven’t yet completed the flight portion) that a procedure turn is mandatory unless there is a note stating it is NA (not authorized) for approaches from designated directions. Hopefully you were flying this approach VFR so you wouldn’t get busted!

    There is no feeder route from POM VOR> It has been discontinued. IF it was a feeder route it would say NOPT and have an min altitude. The route from SLI is a feeder route. Notice the alt. It uses the HILPT with parallel entry. Notice the route from PDZ is not a feeder route either.

    Excellent Video! Doing my IFR training now and have a question regarding TDZE plus 100 with approach lights. I believe you said that minimum only applies to ILS and not LPV, whereas my CFII says it applies to all approaches including those with MDA. I can't find anything in 91.175 that supports what I think you said. Am I missing it in another reg? Thanks!

  • @XPlanePhil

    @XPlanePhil

    3 жыл бұрын

    91.175(c) doesn't mention the type of approach, but refers to an approach lighting system other than just runway lights. My interpretation is that it depends on the type of approach lighting system, not the approach you are actually flying. A runway that has only non-precision approaches leading to it won't have an ALSF or MALSR, hence the lights you can use for the 100ft rule aren't there. Following that logic, even if you fly a LOC or GPS approach to a runway that has lights for an ILS (SSALR or better) you get to use the lights for the rule, even if you are not flying the approach the lights are for. But, I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not claiming my interpretation of 91.175(c) is the only correct one. I'm not giving instruction or legal advise here.

  • @_dc1225

    @_dc1225

    4 жыл бұрын

    Inbound course for the hold is 196, outbound is 016, the aircraft is on a heading of 045, the hold is a standard right turn pattern so the entry has to be a parallel.

  • @XPlanePhil

    @XPlanePhil

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's a toss up, really. The 70° line between holding entries is a good suggestion, but there's no regulation that says which entry you have to fly. As long as you're in protected airspace, you're fine. Same with the 45/180 reversal. It's a good suggestion, but there's no regulation that says it's the only way you're allowed to do it. The way I like to look at it is: -If you are pointed the wrong way, and out of the holding, it's parallel. -If you are pointed the wrong way, and into the holding, it's teardrop. -If you are going roughly the right way, it's direct -If you are going roughly the right way but the resulting turn would put you too close on outbound, it's a "Lufthansa-entry".

  • @XPlanePhil

    @XPlanePhil

    5 жыл бұрын

    About 0.1% of all real world G1000 installations have the optional ADF remote receiver. So no, I did not included that in the simulation. There's really no need for it anymore, as you can substitute it with the GPS-driven bearing pointer. Even in flight training, we don't need ADF anymore. ADF was removed from the ACS (airmen certification standards) last year, so we don't even teach it anymore.

    Hi, can you manage and setting the ADF on G1000 for x Plane? I can’t find it

  • @XPlanePhil

    @XPlanePhil

    6 жыл бұрын

    Nope. I have yet to encounter an aircraft in real life that had the KR87 receiver for the G1000. You don't need it. The G1000 is TSO-C129a, so you can substitute the BRG pointer for ADF, as long as the station is in the database. Even for training we don't need it, ADF was removed from the PTS/ACS this year, so we don’t even teach it anymore.

  • @chetelo

    Obviously removing from the ACS/PTS doesn't mean people run out to their planes and rip the receivers out, if they already have them. No one is going to order new ones though. The OBS function is available on legs that have no fixed predetermined course. Course-to-Fix, holdings or other special legs (manseq, course to altitude, etc.) will have no OBS function since the track is fixed (it is read from the database). Also, SUSP shadows OBS, so any leg that requires an un-suspend will also have no OBS. OBS is also not available on the final approach course segment. The complete list can be found in the pilot's handbook of the real G1000 and X-Plane behaves the same.
