WWE's Golden Age - Part 2 (1985-1987)

Спорт

The first WrestleMania was in the books for the rapidly expanding WWF. Hulk Hogan and Mr T stood tall to end the afternoon, but it was Vince McMahon behind the curtain who stood taller. This massive home run would go on to define WWE's future as an industrial powerhouse, and they were just getting started.

Absolutely amazing just a minor detail involving the Ring carts at Mania 3 that was omitted as to why they were used it was due to the size of the entrance ramp as while planning for the event the WWE event team realised that with the rampway the event would've been 3 hours on entrances alone as a result they had everyone sans Hogan and Piper for 2 differing reason Piper seemingly heading to retirement and Hulk as the Golden Boy of the company use the Carts for their entrance so that Mania would hit a reasonable runtime. outside of that missing factoid tho amazing content can't wait for part 3

I remember when Jake Roberts started appearing in the WWF. When he was in shape, he was pretty fantastic. People don't really realize how good he was in the ring, or how damn great he really was on the mic. Dude's promos were outstanding, would make you feel creeped out when he was a heel, and make you get behind his bottled rage when he was a babyface. If you can find his promos and matches I'd check them out. So underrated by so many. EDIT: Also, Ozzy looked like he didn't know where the hell he was!

Honestly, this series was EPIC..Much respect Cultaholic this was very well done even without actual footage you guys killed it….Hands down the best wrestling doc on KZread. I was a kid during the Golden era and I remember going to Blockbusters in Peckham in the early 90’s with my dad and renting some of these classic ppv’s from the 80’s as I was born in 88. I stopped watching wwe soon after the attitude era but it was so good seeing all of the background stories on how they produced such a classic product. Cuktaholic you’ve made a former wresting fan a new wrestling fan all over agin. Congratulations on a job well done 🫵🏾⭐️’s

The problem with the "Territory System" was that it was pretty much poised to fail from the start, as soon as somebody who wasn't willing to "play ball" came along. Each of the promoters wanted to be lords of their domain, pay the wrestlers as little as possible and 100% of any pie, even a small one, rather than have to settle for only a portion of a much bigger one, even if that bigger one meant more money for them. The only way they knew how to grow was to wait for another territory to go under and then gobble up the scraps. Even in the face of their own failure against the WWF they wouldn't band together to fight and help each other out, and were instead circling and hoping they could outbid WWF for the bits and pieces of their competition... which they couldn't because they were all too narrowminded to have enough money in the first place.

That is correct, but it was a more entertaining product for fans. I loved the territory years, and many wrestlers were working in various areas, simultaneously. Fans just were not aware of it, with little TV coverage( at least nationally). The magazines were the best conduits for fans to learn more about the talent, outside their geographical area. The “traveling” NWA champion was an especially cool feature, and Race and Flair could handle the insane schedule.

Couple of fun facts: 1.) Adonis was pipper’s best friend. They were often together out of the ring, and pipper even believed the spirit of Adonis was the presence that watched over his family. 2.) the match between savage and steamboat stole the show at WM3. The reason it was so good though, is steamboat and savage planned the match, move for move, down to the last detail way in advance and practiced it. If I remember right, the final total was 136 movements had to be memorized to pull it off.

It stole the show in wrestling, but not as a show. As great as it was, Hogan vs andre was still on another level. Considering it is still the most famous, and most important spot in history

I can't believe how comprehensive this was! I don't even know what you missed. JYD getting fired after WrestleMania III and getting hired back in the summer? Muraco face turn and Orton feud? Superstar Graham's career ending and the awesome Reed/Gang beatdown? I assume the latter 2 are due up next time since you left it on a Survivor Series cliffhanger. Anyway, great job! I usually nitpick these things to death, but not much to go on about here!

They did air WrestleMania 3 on pay per view the following week on replay in Metro Detroit area. I never knew it was blacked out from pay per view entire state of Michigan. I always thought it was just Detroit area. FYI. It nearly same mileage distance from the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Detroit as Detroit is to Washington D.C.

The mini-ring cart was used at Wrestlemania III in the Silverdome Pontiac Michigan to ride the wrestlers down the aisle and into the ring or leave the ring and ride up the aisle except Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper who walk down the aisle and into the ring. The cart was used again three years later at Wrestlemania VI in the Skydome, Toronto Canada.
