Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z

I think, as the interviewer here is alluding with her question, that there is a distinction between plot and character. Example plot-based works: The Firm, or any Grisham film; any Michael Crichton book/films, which are all with intriguing premises, where we are motivated to see how the problems will be "solved", but with no truly memorable 3-dimensional characters. Example character-based works: Forrest Gump, The Catcher In The Rye, Riggin in Birdman (the movie), even The Stranger by Camus, which are all with very thin plots, in the case of my first two examples they are simply slice-of-life plots with no ticking clocks or pots of gold (like Holden's meandering after being kicked out of Pency), but with characters that are unforgettable. What drives the story is our relationship to the character, the mystery in the character, where there is little mystery in the plot itself. Although neither can survive alone, there are differences in degree of plot vs. character, which makes the lung and the heart truly not a proper analogy for them. This is, of course, just my notion as a novelist; I certainly have the utmost respect for Professor Walter's thoughts as an experienced instructor.

Apart of one of my favorites: Leon The Professional, the movies that came to my mind hearing Prof. Walter, were comic book characters movies, "Batman", "Superman", "Green Lantern", "The Avengers", "Fantastic Four", "Ant Man"... And now that I think about it, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter!...

Some of my favorite character-driven writers were actors turned writers. They were the kind of actors who really liked to "get into their character's heads" and imagine themselves as the character when they were playing a role. They tended to put a great deal of thought into who a character was as a person and they tended to write the character consistently over a period of years. Technically speaking, some of these people were better writers than actors.

Film Magician We worked on 3 Richard Walter videos today and they are all excellent. We have another that is already completed that we will be publishing this week. Beyond that, we have at least 3 more videos that we will finish up as soon as we can. The time is nearing where we will be able to publish the full interview. We can't wait either!
