LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

Actually there is a lot of politics in the movie... You will not see the central figures of Indian Freedom Movement anywhere in the movie even in the end credits song.. that being Gandhi and Nehru.. Rajamouli and his father do have leanings to the right wing India.. but they managed to balance it out somewhat by making one of the lead characters from tribal community and bheem taking refuge with a muslim family etc.. Plus imagery of Ramayana will be in full display in the ending.. that is equivalent to if RDJ puts on Jesus robe and starts smiting ppl at the end of Endgame 😁😁😁..Plus the british were colonizers really bad one's at that but many did a lot of good things to be ppl of India... Like penny cook .Even as a Indian I wouldnt want all the british to be protrayed in a bad light .. but then again this is a very enjoyable movie. Less politics in movies the better I think the movie generally is..

Bharata (India) has always as one nation country under which in which there are different empires sharing the same civilizations. It's the arrival of british where they have very brutally psychologically and on the ground make sure that all kingdom's empire in Bharata don't get together. And the enemy of Sanatana Hindus Bharat at that time and has always been the islamists muslims are supported by britishers. This lie myth created by britishers that we are never united. Because for them united means under one umbrella only like britishers are under elizabeth. Kindly know the the truth about our history.

I grew accustomed to falling asleep during movies nowadays, thinking it was me, being tired after a busy work week. But I didn't fall asleep during RRR, and I also don't during older movies of the 90's/00's. Especially most Marvel movies nowadays try so hard to be awesome, that they forget to add personality to the characters.

You’re right. It features men being MEN. It emphasizes honor, duty, love, loyalty, sacrifice, and friendship. The ladies are kind and generous, and portrayed as heroic and noble, in a way that is different from the men BUT NOT INFERIOR. The men are physically strong and emotionally vulnerable WITHOUT BEING WEAK. The heroes deeply revere the ladies in their lives, and represent the best of masculinity. They are the strong trees under which their families and communities stand. The characters are instantly likeable and relatable. I LOVE RRR.

Absolutely 💯, beautifully explained. There are multiple short stories, and character development through it, that build up come together to form the larger movie. And so for 3 hours you're just lost in the awe and admiration of it! There are so many levels and layers of elements infused in the film that work on the audience all at once, the layers of emotions, background score, lyrics, visuals, all working all at once on the flow of the Story! Its like a audio-visual form of Leonardo DaVinci's Paintings. It's a truly Spectacular Masterpiece of Visual Storytelling! ✨

Historically almost all Indian movies use the ancient Indian idea of Nava-rasa (which roughly translates to The 9 emotions evoked in the audience through an art form). The so-called critics in India call such a movie "masala movie". These are the people responsible for the wrong branding Indian movies get within India and around the world. Indian movies are made to give a good time to the viewer, not to get approval from these critics or the West. They are just fun to watch. It is a celebration.

Totally with you on BaahuBali! Both The Beginning and The Conclusion. For me, better than RRR. Biggest let down in RRR is the English/Caucasian actors - sub par. Even Ray Stevenson is not good. I don't know if the director didn't convey what he wanted, if there was a language barrier, if there is a different acting style/approach in Indian cinema that non-Indian actors aren't able to deliver on - because clearly the indigenous actors deliver well. I started watching it and turned it off. Only finished it after I saw so many rave reviews - so I came back to it, to find out why. Overall, it's got some great action sequences and nice moments - but I'm confused why people are raving about it. I'd take Baahubali over RRR any day.

I watched RRR because I saw Chris Gore had talked about it and I've appreciated his takes on movies and storytelling in the past. Let me tell you, this man does not miss. What an amazing film. I think what makes the political aspects of the film so easy to put aside while viewing is that they're so intimately tied to the lives of the characters. Bheem is a good and honorable man who wants to keep his promises and he doesn't care if it means opposing the British. Ram wants to distribute weapons to his people because he made a promise to his dying father and wants to avenge his family. So rather than remain political ideas, those points become the absolute principles of everything that goes on with these two men.

Most of the Indians were united under the non- violent methods of Gandhi while few other factions , like the men u see in this movie and other great leaders like Bhagat Singh believed in the concept of revolution. Both movements were going on simultaneously. Great analysis btw. Love from India

Few easter eggs and fun facts of RRR: 1) Both the characters Raju and Bheem were inspired from 2 real indian freedom fighters and revolutionists from indian history, Alluri seeta rama raju from andhra pradesh and Komuram bheem from telangana, ie, from the two telugu speaking states, in history both of them Raju and bheem were from same timeline but never met each other in reality, in original history they both went missing for 4 years during this 1920 time period, no one knows where they went and what they did, but after 4 years they both returned to their villages and fought their own fights and both sacrificed their lives for our country, Director rajamouli hv woven a fictional story that what happens if they met each other, and exchange their ideas and ideologies in the time period they went missing... That's how this movie was born.... This movie is about India's freedom from british rule, this movie was about friendship between 2 states... 2) When bahubali was released many people began to nitpick about small things in the movie, they began to look for flaws, one such flaw which was pointed out by many people is the iconic scene where prabhas makes the huge jump in the waterfall, many pointed out that he should take a run up to make such a huge jump, instead he just jumps from the edge, thats the reason y in RRR When ram and bheem meet for the 1st time, to rescue the kid under the bridge while they jump down the bridge they take a run up in rajamouli style with a horse n a bike🤣🤣 guess what rajamouli learns from his mistakes, even in the same scene we can see ram charan takes a flag dips it in the water n makes it wet before he throws it to jr NTR, so that when jr NTR wraps it around it won't catch fire 🔥🔥... The imagination n brilliance of rajamouli sir🔥🔥 Respect👍👍 3) Unlike many other indian movies which involve english actors, in RRR we find the performances of english actors far better, that's because rajamouli approached professionals, the one who played Scott is "Ray Stevenson" one who acted in "Thor" movies, one who played lady Scott is "Alison doody" the lead actress from indiana jones.... 4) The sets u can see in nacho nacho or naatu naatu song, the palace behind is actually President's palace in Ukraine..After finishing the movie n returning to india, war was started in ukraine.... 5) When ram captures bheem's clan member, he catches a snake n attacks ram even though he is tied, that man catching the snake is justified coz they r gond tribals, they know everything abt every animal, how to trap and catch them, n how to treat animal attacks using natural ayurvedic remedies, since they were born n brought up in jungle along with those animals n plants, that's how even jr NTR is able to tame n control the animals during interval sequence.... 6) That song jr NTR sings while being whipped "komaram bheemudo", few non indian and north indian audience may find the song lil distasteful because they r unaware of the importance of the song, the gond tribe (the telangana people) who faced many tortures under the nijam rule, hv developed a habit of singing folklore songs explaining their pain n oppression for years, these songs kind of made those people stronger n revolt against nijams, similarly at the end of the song people revolt, even now a days these songs r famous in Telangana area, we andhra n telangana people r familiar with such songs, but north indian n non indian audience may not hv any idea abt it, even the song komaram bheemudo was written by one of the famous revolutionary singer from telangana area, if u concentrate on the lyrics of the song we can feel the oppression his people r facing.... 7) the subtext or easter egg about the "Barbed whip" that lady scott threw to torture jr NTR is that in the climax when the Scott's empire blows up when lady scott died we can see her body hanging in "Barbed wires" implying that she finally got what she deserved.... "karma is a bitch"🤭🤭🤣 8) near the climax when jr NTR knocks on the floor to find ram who was imprisoned in the ground, he actually knocks the same beats of Nacho Nacho song, so that only ram charan could recognise it's him rather than other possible prisoners, ram charan also reciprocates by knocking the same beat of nacho nacho, even in the earlier scene when ram charam is bit by snake he plays the same beats to communicate with jr NTR, the cinematic brilliance of rajamouli for using a song in so many ways giving easter eggs all the way around is lit🔥🔥🔥 hatsoff to rajamouli 🙏 9) In a scene where they show the security measures of the palace they had 2 doors at entrance, only after closing the 1st door they will open 2nd door, if we observe both the doors clearly and also if we listen to the creek sounds of both doors, we would know the outer door is a wooden one, and the inner door is a metal one, so to rescue malli they can break the outer door but they can't break the inner door, that's the reason y the character jhangu climbs a tree and listens for the 2nd door to open to rescue malli in interval scene... Every small detail in this movie is well planned and well executed... 10) the scene about bheem carrying ram in the climax sequence may seem a bit overemphasized, but even earlier in the film in dosti song there was a shot giving easter eggs, where we can see jr ntr doing squats on the ground lifting ram charan, then ram charan does pull ups holding a tree branch, this way rajamouli is planting an idea subconsciously to his audience that jr ntr got lower body strength n ram charan got upper body strength... So that audience get convinced during the climax scene where bheem carries ram... Even the scene seems physically impossible, rajamouli never hesitates to show his ideas n imaginations in the most convincing way possible, that scene may be impossible but u could never find any other director pulling of such a scene in any film like rajamouli... Respect.... 11) The same way In climax fight sequence bheem lifting a bike looks over the top for sure, but do u know those bikes were actually used during second world war time so that in any unforeseen situation during war the soldiers can actually carry the bikes, those bikes weight around 55kgs only, i agree that even 55 kg bike travelling at 50kmph velocity is difficult to be lifted... But look at the way it was imagined, presented, picturized, the mesmerising cinematography in that scene, the kind of goosebumps it gave us, we should watch the movie for its epicness, rather than being nitpicky about everything.... 12) At the climax that transformation of ram charan🔥🔥, many people thought that was sree ram's avatar, there r mythological references to the movie for sure but its not just sree ram's avatar, its actually the original look of Alluri seeta rama raju (the freedom fighter ram charan was playing), alluri seeta rama raju in history was well learnt man who wears those kashayam clothes fights with bow n arrows, probably the best archer india has ever had, he fought against britishers he got weapons n guns by attacking police stations n british camps, he used the same weapons to attack britishers with his trusted men... Even he was shot dead by britishers in the freedom struggle... Legend says that britishers put around 100 bullets in his body n ruthlessly killed him... At the end of the film rajamouli showed ram n bheem in their original looks ram wearing kashayam clothes, with long hair n beard, bheem with a pagdi on his head n those clothes gond people used to wear... 13) the final RRR fact, For the interval sequence with animals rajamouli shot for around 65 nights, each night they spent around 75lakhs for the shoot itself... In that interval sequence they had to imagine animals were there n fight accordingly, for that to happen n so that each n every background artist to be in sync with the CG animals rajamouli employed different tactics while shooting which were not even used in Hollywood movies, a) for bear they used a person wearing green blanket, since the movement of bear is slow similar to a human being... b)For shots with tiger, tiger moves much faster than humans, so they can't just place a human with green blanket, so rajamouli positioned laser lights following the head position of the tiger, so that camera man n actors can imagine the position of tiger n act accordingly. c) for wolves they used dogs which were trained to catch a ball, while shooting the sequence they randomly throw the balls in middle of men, so the dogs chase the balls, in that way rajamouli captured peoples reactions to wolves, later on during CG he replaced the dogs with wolves... d) for other fast moving animals like deers, they used remote controlled cars moving in between the actors....

Some details about the movie Characters and Historical back story: Alluri Sita Rama Raju, Born in a Andhra Kshatriya family in the West-Godavari (a district of present Indian state Andhra Pradesh on the banks of river "Godavari"), to Alluri Venkata Rama Raju and his wife Suryanarayanamma. He was raised by his uncle in Bhimavaram, after his parents died when he was 12. He did his education also got trained in horse riding and archery. He was a well civilized man, who felt that the main evil was happening in the forests, that the tribals are the ones really being suppressed and exploited the most by british and went into forests and dedicated his whole life for helping them fight british, although wasn't a tribal himself the tribals saw him as a Leader and followed him. He is revered and remembered not just as a great revolutionary, but also as a symbol of unshakable Honesty & Commitment, Admirable Character. Since he went into forests for helping tribals, he actually used to wear Saffron clothing and used bow & arrows (was also a sharp shooter) which resembled hindu god "RAM". It was his approach to stand as a symbol of inspiration for tribals to revolt. Some believe that Alluri Rama Raju taking "Brahmacharya Sanyas" (divine way of life, without love or attachment to any women) for the revolution was the reason for his Saffron attire. He didn't marry his love Sita, Sacrificing his love and life for revolution, and Sita understood that and lived as an admirer of him, till her death. After her death, Raju changed his name from Alluri Rama Raju to Alluri Sita Rama Raju. He used to do guerilla raids on British police stations (after informing & challenging them that he's going to come & attack and stop him if they can) and collect guns & weapons, using an army of armed tribals by training them. Although they knew where he lives, It's said that it costed more than a million even in those days, for the british to finally capture and execute him. He was only 26 when he died. They killed Rama Raju unethically while he's unarmed, performing a morning Prayer. Komaram Bheem, a tribal himself from gond tribes of Adilabad (a district of the present Indian state "Telangana") He was an extremely strong man with tribal innocence & intensely emotional nature, and is rumoured to hunt a tiger by himself. He used to wear muslim disguises during his revolt against Nizam. He died fighting the Nizam's of Bhagyanagaram (Present day Hyderabad) In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana) everyone knows these things, maybe not in other states. They were referred as Sri Ram and Bheemasen of Ramayanam & Mahabharatam respectively (since long back before the movies even existed !!) from their Names and features (Rama Raju's- Saffron Attire, was a Kshatriya, went to forests and made an army with tribals, not just fought evil but lived with unshakable Character & Virtues, his love was also a "Sita" and he remained true to her even after her death. Komaram Bheem- Physical strength, Wild attacking nature, Perseverance) being similar and out of the level of reverence they've achieved from people. Both left their homes almost in the same period and then returned after some time and started their revolutions against British and Nizam in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana respectively. After returning home, Rama Raju started wearing Saffron clothing till the day he died fighting for tribals (known as "Rampa Rebellion", with motto "Manade Rajyam" which translates to.. "Ours is this kingdom" against British in Visakhapatnam agency), and Bheem came back as an educated man and started his rebellion (with motto.. Jal, Jangal, Jameen.. with translates to Water, Forest & Soil..) As no one has a clear idea about what happened to them in that period when they left, and what made them become revolutionaries.. the movie writer wrote a Fictional tale of friendship between the two, that they met and became friends and Bheem was the one who gave Rama Raju a Saffron attire and that he got educated himself from Rama Raju, connecting everything that was remembered in telugu people hearts.. if we see carefully, we can see all these details used in some way, in the movie clearly.. Other details : -Rama Raju is also referred by people as "Manyam Dhora".. which translates to King of the Wild Forests and Komaram Bheem is praised as "Gondu Bebbuli".. which translates to Ferocious Tiger of Gond tribes. These names are also referred in the Original movie (Telugu or Tollywood version available on Disney plus Hotstar & Zee5). The one in Netflix is Hindi dubbed/ bollywood version. The story of Alluri Sita Rama Raju was first made a movie by Actor Krishna (Father of Telugu actor Mahesh babu). Back then even top Actors were afraid of playing the character of Rama Raju, as if not done properly it may hurt people's feelings (There are literally temples built for Rama Raju !!). It became a Sensational Blockbuster breaking all the records and brought the actor a never ending fame in Telugu film industry. -Also The Indian Flag used throughout the movie was the older Berlin Committee Flag (designed by Madame Bhikaji Cama, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar & Shyamji Krishna Varma) corresponding to the time period. (Current Indian flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya) -The bike used by Bheem was the older world war version which were designed lightweight for men to lift and carry them when required. About language "Telugu" : 1. Only language in the Eastern world to have every word ending in a vowel sound. Thereby referred as "Italian of the East". 2. Telugu has been voted to have the second-best script in the world, after Korean by International Alphabet Association. 3. It's one of the 6 Classical languages of India. 4. It's the 15th most spoken language in the world and 3rd most spoken language wrt India, and the Largest of all Dravidian (South-Indian) languages. Great poets like Rabindranath Tagore and many kings like Sri Krishnadevaraya who are non-telugu natives, praised it as the sweetest of all the Indian languages.. Easy to learn Language, the words and their corresponding phonetics always match

BTW In India a large section has rediculed the film for being too cheesy and for it's over the top action. Which I find amusing because we have always loved films like RRR but in pursuit of creating films similar to Hollywood. The Indian filmmakers have lost touch with there masses and hence the failure of some recent bollywood films. I hope we all learn from Rajamouli sir and make films which are grounded in our Indian reality.

The Indian reality is not over the top acting. We have been trained to like certain films. I for one completely disliked RRR and there is nothing un-Indian about it. I don't like movies that are cheesy with a wafer thin plot meant to pander to the masses. I mean, the masses are there simply to enjoy the film, which is fine. But that shouldn't be considered the barometer of film making. I'll just recluse myself into watching fantastical movies that are still grounded in reality (not the reality of a specific country). It is ironic that he must say that Hollywood movies must aspire to be like RRR, because they already make over the top, squirm-inspiring movies, i.e., most Marvel movies. I'm baffled by people's love for this film, as much as I am bothered by people's love for Love and Thunder and many other Hollywood films. We are already descending into such senseless, money minting movie making trend, with at least 5 movies replicating RRR's formula. Of course, most Indian movies have always been that way.

Hi Chris, a small correction there are 5 major film language industries here in India. For the Hindi language, they make movies from Bollywood, for the Telugu language they make movies from Tollywood, for Tamil language movies they make movies from Kollywood, Kannada language movies are made in sandalwood and Malayalam movies are made from Mollywood industry. Other than these 5 languages there are many other languages spoken across the country they have their own cinema, like Bengali cinema, Bhojpuri cinema, and even from the northeast of India. Previously the west was only aware of Bollywood generalizing the whole of India, but RRR has changed that. There are 5 major film industries in India.

Why do you have to be so negative? Literally everyone in the west that has watched RRR are gushing about it including Jermy Jahns, Critical drinker, Honest Trailers and literally all the major big time reviewers and content creators. I don’t think Rajamouli is paying them all the money to say good things about the movie.

I don't know if the world saw it in 3D , but we in India saw it in IMAX 3D Dolby Atmos. During the interval fight scene, when the tiger jumps on a man, a lady beside me fell of the chair. We felt every grain of the film. The whole movie was on another level and we enjoyed each and every moment of it. We whistle, we scream and clap with joy throughout the film. For next Rajamouli film, everyone please come to India (or any good Indian film). The crowd and celebrations will be out of this world and nearly shocking to you people. It has to invent an enemy (an imaginary Iran that broke the nuclear treaty, whereas in reality we broke it) which it intentionally keeps faceless and nameless so that we can focus on what heroes we are and ignore the fact that across the world, we are what the British are in RRR.

As an Indian I loved your feedback after watching RRR. I saw it yesterday on the big screen and totally enjoyed it. Just to correct you there- Bollywood and Tollywood are not the only main film industries in India. There are four different major industries in the South of India of which Telugu is one of the languages spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Like that there is Tamil Industry from Tamil Nadu, Malayalam film industry from Kerala (where I come from) and Kannada from Karnataka. Besides the South and Bollywood (based in Mumbai), there are other industries which might not be so prominent as the aforementioned but still make good films. In fact, Bengali films from East of India were forerunners of artistic and parallel films at one point. In a nutshell there are several film industries in India and every state has its own respective language. The most popular is Bollywood. 'RRR' is not a Bollywood film... you could either call it Telugu film or an Indian film to be fair. When you condense all Indian films as Bollywood, it makes sound derivative and stereotypical of all Indian films which is definitely not at all even remotely close to the actual representation of Indian films.

And so for 3 hours you're just lost in the awe and admiration of it! There are so many levels and layers of elements infused in the film that work on the audience all at once, the layers of emotions, background score, lyrics, visuals, all working all at once on the flow of the Story! They say there are only about 8 stories which have been repackaged since eternity(man vs man, man vs nature etc). What if the cinema medium has reached its zenith? Certainly with regards to cgi and effects it has.....a giant ocean liner flying over NYC won't do anything for the masses in this day and age. What if all stories have also been told. I miss the 90s films. They were generic.....Dante's Peak, Titanic, T2, Armageddon etc....but there was a filmic quality to them that made them enjoyable.

RRR is indeed a gem. Mostly because Rajamouli had this crazy idea to imagine whatwould happen if 2 people from different universes will meet. Like Batman and Wolverine. So he picked 2 freedom fighters, who never met in their real lives, based them on 2 gods from the ancient historical epics of India- The Ramayana and Mahabharata. With more emphasis on Ramayana. And there you go. Infact the whole climax fight scene of Bheem carrying Rama on his shoulder is how the final battle was fought in Ramayana. That was the inspiration for the scene. Including Bheem's medicinal herbs. And so many other symbolism he used which I think people in the west would find hard to follow. But still i love how much love this movie is getting. Do you think it deserves to be in the nominations for oscars?

You will love this movie more if u deeply analyze every metaphoric reference of this movie cuz SS Rajamouli shows a movie with less cool dialogue, in his movies the imagery talks more than dialogue... I have analyzed some deep meanings of some scenes and there are more scenes like these The whole bridge sequence is cool but at the same time, it also summarizes the whole movie plot. Ram's mission is regarding the country (jumps with a Flag) and Bheem's mission is to save the child from his tribe (jumps to get the child) and in this journey, they exchange their missions (exchange of flag and child) and eventually succeed helping each other. The chariot was on fire cuz when Ram came, the place was full of wild animals and the animals are afraid of Fire so to get rid of animals on his way to Bheem, he did that and here came with director 1000 IQ, it also represents that Ram is a Fire. I want to tell u something about Water and Fire: Somebody asked Rajamouli why he chooses Water & Fire as a friend it is never possible cuz they r opposites and don't like each other. Rajamouli replied that they r opposites but if they come together and work with each other they can do amazing things like they can create steam which can run the motor of this whole world. 1. There is a scene during the friendship montage playing when both of them run beside the train, and the train releases steam. Most people will think it is just for looking gorgeous but it is not. The thing is when water( Bheem) & fire(Ram) come together they create steam. It is the reference and also looks beautiful. 2. When the INTERRRVAL title card was about to come, there was a scene where the blood drops on Ram's hand from his eye and it creates steam if u look deeply u will see that. There are many references I can't tell more. In his movies, he does not add any cool dialogue he just shows imagery and reference. If u see then u will not see any cool dialogues in his movies...his movie making is different And in his movie a hero is a hero who has no limits, he's not here to describe anyone about realistic, physics-fail things

But if you talk about the quality, there's lots of other players around like Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali movies. You should see some of the classics from these languages and you will realise how little we know about the Indian film industry.

Ever since one of the theaters near my town has reopened after having gone out of business and being purchased by an Indian family they play just as many Indian films as they do your normal American blockbusters. I make sure to see as many of the Indian films as I can.

@@kirtigupta9753 Not yet, but I’ll have a look at it tomorrow. A terrific new release I saw at the theater last week is “Oke Oka Jeevatham”, a great time-travel movie. I also saw “Vendhu Thanindathu Kaadu”, which is a sort of retelling of “Scarface” taking place in Bombay.

@@annettebist Thanks for the heads-up! On Tuesday I'm going to see "Love Today", which sounds like it has an excellent premise; a man asks for permission to marry a girl, but before the father will consent he sets the condition that the couple exchange cell phones for 24-hours. That's a brilliant premise!

As an Indian who hasn't watched this movie yet; before the reviews came in all I thought was this is another one of those flashy Telgu movies. The appreciation makes me wonder in general about the question why certain films work while others simply don't. Looking forward to watch it asap.

10:17 Small Correction. India was not a group of tribes but a group of states ruled by their Kings and palaces, forts, soldiers and all. Now tribal chiefs don't live in Palaces, do they!! But still culturally and traditionally India was kind of United.

Correct your facts about India. Britishers didn't unite India, infact they tried to devide Indian society. India was fighting unitedly from every corner of country against colonists. Loved and always love your thoughts about movies though

Adding more insights to this: Hindi, language in which Bollywood makes its movies, is the most spoken language in India. Then there are still many other film industries that make movies in their own regional languages such as Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and the list goes on...Telugu industry is called Tollywood (where RRR comes from).
