I have to admit, as a WoW player, the FFXIV races are so much cooler. Look much better graphically as well.

@@pedropereira6888 I don’t envy anything that WoW has. Everything in the game looks too goofy and immature and has bad animations. I mean, whenever I see videos of the overworld, all of the characters use the same animations. It looks ridiculously bland and weird.

honestly Hrothgar apealed to me, as an ex-orc player, much more than Rogadyen. Hrothgar has more of that savage/brutal look than Rogadyen and its started set kinda makes him look like a grunt.

Female Hrothgar are going to be introduced sometime in the future, too.

I remember I had to give WoW multiple tries over the years until it hooked me. One mistake I made was starting with a Draenei and neither the zone nor the class I picked spoke to me, so I quit after playing a few hours. In an MMO you really need to find that one thing that fits perfectly for you. For me it turned out to be a male Orc warrior. 😅

I can relate. I tried FFXIV several times, each time I tried a different race and a different class, but nothing spoke to me really. Then I made a character which I spent an hour customizing, and was really happy how she turned out. And so came to life my Miqo'te summoner. I became really attached to the character, and she became like an extension of me in the virtual world. Similar story goes for my Night Elf Druid in WoW, also took me a few tries to get it right, but in the end, this one character saw me through every expansion since WotLK. :D

Lol she was right about the Lalafell. They look cute but they are vicious monsters.

She mentioned that she started FFXIV in Heavensward. Shadowbringers released 2019 tho.

Oh thanks for the clarification that makes sense! Yea 2 years ago isn’t that long ago but feels forever with Covid. So 2015 is when she made the shift?

I like my Elezen but sometimes really miss my Night Elf, even if the Elezen is more detailed. ^^

I think Zepla transitioned already back in Warlords of Dreanor which would be... lemme ask google... 2014. So she switched either 2014 or later in 2015... But I remember watching a lot of comparison videos last year from 2019 so I suppose there has been another wave back then - just smaller... I played WoW for many, many years and though I loved story and lore, I hated the grafics (and the faction war -.-). You get used to them after a while but you can never really un-see them.

Had exact same experience with WoW

The graphical preference thing can be boiled down to a very simple set of questions: Q) What year was it/how old were you when you started playing vgames/online MMOs? If your answer is 2004-2010, most likely you are A-okay with wow's graphics and you're from the ps1/n64/ps2/gamecube era. If your answer is 2015>later, most likely you prefer higher graphical fidelity and either played ps3/wii onwards, or just have been PC gamer from getgo. If your answer is 2011-2014, it's in the middle and depends on what other video games you played or didn't play. As someone that's raided at highest level in both games.... Most of my wow guild is 27-34+. I'm bit old at 33 but I fit in fine. My entire FF static is 19-25. I'm freaking ancient grandfather at 33.

I partially agree with your answer list... However (and I'm in my late 30s) I played Guild Wars before WoW so I was "spoiled" already: I never got used to WoWs grafics. Or rather, I did get used to them but they were always reason for me to critizise the game :D But yeah, I feel you, "grandpa" ... I'm the same with my static XD

This is true cuz wow compared to the original ff online ppl seem to forget was ff11 and in all sense wow beat it by miles and even thru 1.0 and ARR wow still outshined ff14. Then ff14 started leveling up over time to become the powerhouse it is today. When comparing these two games you have to understand that tho they are both MMOs they are fundamentally different and one is older than they other. Most of wows problems stems from its developmental direction over the years.

@@Syke-vv4tj Very true this. I feel like old WoW was a game were stuff happens and you, the player, just happen to be there - or not. But stuff happens regardless. And now they try to change this: stuff happens but you get the "chosen one"-label - but this label means little to nothing. Stuff keeps happening, the story continues with the patches, the world changes, whether your are there or not. - FF14 has said from the start: yes, we are an MMO but be are a FF-game first. So, stuff doesnt just happen, stuff only happens when you are there. The world changes with your progress: the end of the world everybody is currently talking about, it wont happen until you get there in your story progress. - Personally, I love this concept and I prefer it over WoWs. But yeah, everybody has their own preference.

I'm only disappointed that I couldn't really remake my WoW Dwarf in FFXIV. They tend to be my favorite fantasy race. My choices were a small, but beardless Lalafell or a massive Roegadyn.

I do like the greater variety WoW has in its races, but that's pretty much the extent of my praise. In FFXIV, I've been playing as a female Hyur Highlander since 2013, before switching to Midlander in early 2021. I considered going Roegadyn, but as far as I can tell... f!Roe and f!Highlander share those stiff animations and poses that bothered me to begin with. (Although Midlander's running animation is definitely a step down.) The main difference would be available skin colors, available starting gear, and that I could be *very, very tall*. The plan right now is to wait for f!Hrothgar to be introduced to the game and hope they're to my liking. Otherwise, I guess I might consider a change to Viera.

Zepla switched long before 2019, she came to ff during heavensward haha

@@unou588 you're wrong. You're just used to WoWs over saturated cartoon theme. Some people don't like kids cartoons made in 2002. We chose to move on.

Well, its this cartoony style that made them very recognizable already back when WoW first released (it was even often critizied back then for its childish graphics compared to other games like Everquest). However this style became sort of a trademark. Plus, colors in WoW after super saturated and actually fun to look at - every zone has its unique color palette. Personally, I never liked their ingame grafics but they improved it in 2014 or so... and, I hate to admit it, not everything was bad ^^°

I'm just saying I've constantly seen over the last couple years people saying "FF graphics suck, WoWs are better" and that to me is just a hard no. That doesn't mean FF is strictly better than WoW, only that WoW is not better than FF

@@autumneagle my main thing is the fidelity from ingame graphics compared to the cinematics is soul crushing in WoW. In ff14 there's less of a downgrade, imo.

The elder scrolls online has even better graphical fidelity than FF14 but some of the combat mechanics need some serious work. FF has a very strong formula for combat that is addicting.

Funny: When I left WoW I was debating to either pick ESO or FF14 - and 14 made the deal because of the grafics :D (and because they had a free trial, even though it only got to lvl35 back then...)

Right. It’s level 76 crafted gear for crafting/gathering jobs and level 78 crafted gear for combat jobs. Every job has a dwarven-looking set that goes with the job. Fun fact - the PLD weapon that goes with the dwarven tank set (fending) is a pick axe.

only thing i think wow races does better than ff14. is that there actually races that aren't pretty boys and girls. i want to play my monster races dammit and not humans with 1 or 2 small changes. (and yes i know hrothgar are a thing)

"Not a lot of detail" that's thanks to gear being in the game for over a decade. The modern gear in shadowlands and BFA has extreme detail and a lot of cool/beautiful armor.

I could never get into WOW. The characters have no detail & everything is neon cartoonish. FFXIV is so much better.

Running on an old ass engine and comparing it to a younger FFXIV is kinda mean. But if you mean the art direction, I can totally see it.

14s engine isn't that young in terms of game engines. (It's just a proprietary engine that is supported by its creators. 1.0 was on crystal tools: an engine from 2006 or so. 2.0+ should be on a modified Luminous engine which is at least 8 years old.
