Made in Japan The Mule Best ever.
This album introduced two new members of Deep Purple - David Coverdale on lead vocals, and Glenn Hughes on bass and co-lead vocals - they're both singing on the song "Burn". Coverdale later went on to form Whitesnake, and Hughes has had a long career which continues to this day. I read something very interesting about "Burn"'s guitar riff. Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore mentioned in an interview that he came up with the riff while trying to play a George Gershwin song from the 1920s called "Fascinting Rhythm", and sure enough, that single musical phrase is identical to both songs, but that's definitely all they have in common. You have to give Ritchie credit for being honest.

Burn is the musical equivalent of when you're a kid and you run down a hill. You run so fast that you can't go any faster and you can't slow down or you'll crash in to the ground. It's equally thrilling and terrifying.

Agree… Hughes & Coverdale alternating lead singing duties, & harmonies and Blackmores savage guitar… Blackmore has always been such a polarizing figure in the annals of Rock. His musical genius & guitar playing were groundbreaking . But his fickle behavior and the way he summarily excommunicated band members destroyed what he helped to create. But it also gave him the opportunity to rebuild & rebrand every project he was ever involved with. From Dio to Graham Bonnet to Joe Lynn turner as lead vocalists in Rainbow. And from Ian Gilliam to Coverdale in Deep Purple… and then back to Gilliam (I think). And a seemingly revolving door of drummers & other musicians that he just couldn’t get along with or guys that grew tired of his petulant child act. It was frustrating for us fans… but it was never boring!
Deep Purple is awesome!

One of the best songs with Mr. Ian Paice on drums. Some of his best work.
1975, Saturday morning drum lessons. My drum teacher , the late great Brad Baker was an Ian Paice clone, same drums, hair, glasses, body type. Brad introduced me to this album. The candles on the cover were mesmerizing. I went immediately after my lesson and bought this. To this day, I can not hear or see Deep Purple and Paicey without thinking of and thanking Brad!☺️
One of the first songs I ever learned to play on the guitar, back when I was a teenager. I later found out that Eddie Van Halen named "Burn" as one of his all-time favorite guitar riffs.
This song is in my top five of all-time greatest hard rock songs and cements why Ian Paice is my favourite drummer.
The combination of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes singing was unbelievable. Then add the Hammond Organ and Synthesizer work by Jon Lord with Ritchie Blackmore guitar and this is mindblowing. As a keyboard player, this is one of my top five favorite Deep Purple songs. In no particular order: Hush, Lazy, Child in Time, Highway Star, and Burn - Jon Lord ruled the Hammond Organ!

Hush - great classic and their first big hit. Reminds me of when I left my second husband - I call it my "freedom" song, lol, because I danced my ass off at a local bar to this song and my soon-to-be ex hated it when I rocked out on the dance floor - thought I was being too sexual, lol.
Ian Paice was one of my biggest influences. When my brother brought home MADE IN JAPAN I was like 11 years old. To this day one of the best live albums.
I'm so excited to see people still interested in the legendary playing of the legendary Jon Lord. I love that organ solo!
The live version is killer, Glen Hughes' vocals on the chorus are amazing!

Great reaction guys! To cut a long story short, Ian Gillan (Voc) and Roger Glover (Bass) were out and David Coverdale (Voc) and Glenn Hughes (Bass/Voc) were in. 'Burn' was the first album released by the short lived Mark III lineup. The Stormbringer album would follow in 1975 before Ritchie Blackmore left to form Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, featuring Ronnie James Dio on vocals. "Mistreated" is a great song that David Coverdale (Whitesnake) and Rainbow performed in their respective sets for years. The title track of the Stormbringer album, 'Stormbringer' is great too.

Ritchie Blackmore: "Check out my awesome solo" Jon Lord: "Hold my beer"
This album marked the change to the 3rd formation of Deep Purple with the departure of Vocalist Ian Gillan and Bassist Roger Glover and in their respective places David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes entered, who gave a new gas to the band.
@Slo-ryde
Жыл бұрын
They did not need new gas….. Blackmore was an unquenchable guy that G and G could work with anymore due to his temper….Lord always brokered between him and other band mates, until he couldn’t anymore because nothing made RB happy.. …Rb finally left in 75 or 76, but enough damage was done.

Jon Lord, Ian Paice, and Ritchie Blackmore were each legendary talents. Jon and Ritchie, in particular, were classically trained and they used that music theory to chart a unique path that became the template for every speed metal band that came after. A great showcase of proto-metal is the song "Space Truckin". Packed with drum fills, a solid obligatory guitar hook/riff, and Ian Gillan's screaming vocals.

This was the version of DP with Glenn Hughes on second vocals and bass with David Coverdale on main vocals. He went on to form Whitesnake. I was lucky enough to see DP on the tour for this album back in the 1970's. I'm always up for a Deep Purple reaction! Great choice! As other subscribers mention, you have to watch "Child In Time" live. The studio version is great, but also in my opinion you should watch the live version from 1970. Ian Gillan's vocals are even better than the studio version and you can see all the finger movements of the other band members! That video keeps me mesmerized. You can find the video on their official channel. Thanks ❣
How can that not be fun!? Ah, the music of my youth. I am a 67 year old women playing air drums right now.

No doubt , this song is a "Banger" kudos to the person who suggested it.
Stormbringer is another incredible song. A must listen!
The "keyboard/Keytar solo" towards the end is keyboard player Jon Lord stretching out on his ARP Odyssey synthesizer.

I believe this is their first album with a near rookie named David Coverdale. He of course formed the 80s metal band Whitesnake. A great one of that band is Slow and Easy. The music is just the opposite - fast and tough.
