Wow! DC Fast Charging Volkswagen ID.3 (62kWh) Shows Improvements From New Software

Kyle charges up the new VW ID.3 pro 62kWh gross 58kWh usable from 0-100% in our standard charging test. He’s impressed with the peak charging rate on the midsize pack matching or even exceeding the large 77kWh usable pack we’ve tested before.

    CCS was implemented as the European standard. Even Teslas come with CCS here, that’s why you’ll often find Teslas charging at “ordinary” charging stations when there are no superchargers around.

    The guy from Battery Life has one of the first ID.3 delivered to customers, in his 2-100% test back then he reached 80% in 39 Minutes (he used an IONITY charger that doesn’t show seconds), now 0-80% took only 36,5 minutes. So for a normal charging session you win 2-3 minutes with the new software.

    This battery pack was limited to 100 kW for the MY 20 and 21. MY 22 is announced with 120 kW peak charging power. The chiller is a 5kW unit, but in some tests from Björn you could see that it takes quite long (from 40% if I remember correctly) for the car to start cooling the cells. Don’t know maybe VW has decided to go 125 kW on the mid battery.

  • @benjaminschneider4555

    @benjaminschneider4555

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's right, if you want to charge on a Super Charger, the charging socket on a Volkswagen is on the right side, on combustion engines the cap for refueling is there, on Tesla the socket for charging is on the left at the back. The charging cable does not reach the socket on the VW, you have to park your car one space to the left, then it works, but you then actually occupy 2 spaces.

    Batteries are warranted to 8 years.. Depending how often one uses CCS to charge the battery, temperatures where the car is usually parked (hot weather tends to degrade the battery), these batteries should be good for at least 10 years.

  • @CFG39
    @CFG392 жыл бұрын

    I can’t believe they are going to bring a smaller sized pack to the US ID.4. It will probably have a sub-200 mile range. That will not be very well received by Americans at all. If anything, they needed to offer us a LARGER battery pack with closer to 300 miles of range. A 90kWh usable pack would be better in an ID.4 as it is a thirsty girl. I’d also really like to see VW drastically improve efficiency. A vehicle the size of the ID.4 should be doing a MINIMUM of 3 miles per kWh (333wh/mi) at 75mph.

  • @CFG39

    @CFG39

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Ferdi Posh the issue is in the US there is a very big problem with a lack of CCS chargers. 205 miles is not enough to get to and from each station, especially when you typically will only be charging to 80% at each station, and trying to charge again before you get much below 10%, so you really only have 70% of that 205 mile range, or about 140 miles. That’s in summer. Add in rain that uses the wipers which consume a ton of energy, or snow or cold and you are near 100-120 miles of usable energy per charge. That sucks.
