Would You Spend $35K On This 2022 Mazda CX-30 Turbo?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Mazda makes some of the best cars for the money but many people are probably confused as to which SUV to pick in its lineup. I make comparisons between this 2022 CX-30 and the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo which I did a full review on: • 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo ...

From my perspective, the increased height is a HUGE selling point over the Mazda 3. I’ve had a Mazda Miata for 6.5 years, and while I absolutely love it, I just can’t take feeling low to the ground anymore while on the highway. I don’t want to give up the elements of fun and sportiness, but I need height. I need an SUV, but I don’t actually want one. I feel like Mazda had someone like me in mind when they designed this.

  • @jamesm654
    @jamesm6545 ай бұрын

The raised height also helps with smacking the door into high curbs if you live in a city. Also, the height keeps you from dragging the front end on pavement when exiting certain parking areas.

I wouldn't even consider a Mazda 3 because I need something that can get out to hiking trails and kayak put-ins on national forest roads. The ground clearance is a must-have. Then you also get the good on-road driving dynamics. The increased ride height is also nice so you don't feel dwarfed in traffic.

Nice review. I think the slim front indicators are one of it's strongest design elements. The CX-30 has a total of eight of them on the exterior. In addition to the lower front bumper there's front & rear facing LEDs on the side mirrors along with the ones in the back. Even Stevie Wonder can see when you're planning on turning.

Personally I think the CX-30 looks better than the Mazda 3. Also there are other reasons to need more ground clearance besides ease of access. Steep gravel driveways. Rocky dirt roads. Snow. Etc. I will be buying the CX-30 next year.

Just wondering how things will change five years now as the used car environment will have these high tech cars (be it Mazda, Genesis, etc.), but will be either expensive to fix and/or only the dealership will be able to repair the car with all it's tech. I know you have reviewed a number of cars from Cary Imports such that it would be tempting to purchase a car from them for the chance to meet you....that and drive your LC 500. This car lies in the middle of the venn diagram of all others for me. Good engine, class leading interior, great speakers, awd, somewhat sporty. Only gripe is not having NA engine so I don’t know too much about long term relaibility of these turbo engines. Not a sedan fan so this is a way better choice for a smaller SUV. I'm a Mazda gal! They did a good job with this. My only firm side with the premium is the rear speakers. A bit weak. Better done in the CX5 Touring.

Couple other things, when making 2 hr trips I’m averaging 300 gallons a tank so fill ups are frequent during city driving. Audio is very good I just love it. Back seats are cramped but I don’t have a huge reason to need bigger ones. Visibility took about a week to get used to. I love the dial controls have absolutely zero gripes with them. Makes me a little sad the heated steering wheel does not go all the way around. Back up camera in the premium is honestly shit imo it is somehow always messy when I need it even though I wash this car regularly. Overall I would pick again and I would pick this happily over everything at this price point. The other thing I wish it had was a dark head liner Atleast as an addon option. Other than that I can’t think of any other issues.

Great review. I REALLY like the idea of a smaller, premium, quiet, nice-riding, AWD vehicle with a higher hp engine. My only concern would be the torsion beam suspension -- for the "enthusiast" driver. I'm sure 99% of the people will never notice, but on a FWD car I like to do lift-off-oversteer when I'm having fun -- so would be curious how it would handle that. I agree: The front turn signals being at the BOTTOM of the bumper are super lame. A lot of people would probably not see them and think you're not using your turn signal at all -- which would piss a lot of people off. They don't even look that bright -- they should have put super bright LEDs in there, to compensate, at least. But you can tell it's an incandescent bulb by the way it's turning on and off.

The window belt-line is far too high. You can see the window starts at your chin. I sat in one before and that's the very first thing I noticed. For the record I drive a 2014 Mazda 3 and it doesn't have this problem. It's impossible to comfortably rest your arm/elbow on the door with the window down. From the outside the plastic trim gives an optical illusion and hides how high and small the window is. The CX-5 will give you much better visibility with bigger windows.

@@MeynMotorGroup This is exclusive to the CX-30 in Mazda's lineup. Only 25% of the door is window compared to like 33% of every other model. Even the prior CX-3 had bigger windows (I drove that as well). Hondas brand new Honda Civic has a low belt line with very big windows (thankfully). It's like 40% window. The Camry also has big windows and low belt line. I believe the high belt line is mostly a cost saving/appearance decision they make and not necessarily for safety.

Suggesting this is a retirees car because of it’s raised height is missing boat on this in a big way. I chose the CX-30 over the CrossTrek, because if I’m going to spend 3-4 hours driving to the northwoods to go canoeing, I want a more comfortable drive and better on-road handling. There is nothing the CrossTrek offers on gravel and dirt roads that the CX-30 can’t do equally well. If I was planning to do more hardcore off-roading, I’d get something in a completely different category than a CUV. With 5.5 inch ground clearance, there is zero chance I’m getting a Mazda 3 over the CX-30. It’s just not going to handle two-tracks and dirt roads at all. The cladding on the lower part of the CX-30 is great protection on gravel roads and two-tracks. It’s not just a visual statement.

Honda? I test drove that HRV. What garbage. When you hit a pot-hole, the front wheel feels like it digs into the hole & abruptly releases. You also feel & hear every crack you go over. In this vehicle its quiet as a church.

So the only reason you would want a higher lift on a vehicle is to get in and out. Why dont all senior citezens drive lifted pickups? Because it"s for clearence! Oh whats that dead clump of animal in the middle of the road? I should swerve around it. Wait I'm in the CX 30 not the Mazda 3 I will just ride it down and under the center of my vehicle.

You could clear a squirrel carcass in a Porsche GT3. You don’t need a lifted truck to drive in this country, it’s not that serious. We have clean paved roads to be thankful for.

Yeah I said specifically a squirel and not an animal carcass. Like a Racoon. IIts lifted for clearence., Not as much as a lifted truck. But the same reason.

This is actually the worst review of all time lol. The cx-5 is an SUV cockpit, the cx-30 is a sedan cockpit. The cx-30 seat sits lower on the ground and is better for tall people cause you don't need windshield height (like a truck/large SUV) to fit but separates itself from the Mazda 3 as well with thicker better tires. It's the best of both worlds of the cx-5 and the 3. Do better dude.
