Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo AWD a sport SUV you should BUY?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The NEW CX-30 Turbo is Mazda's attempt at bringing some zoom-zoom to their small SUV. Under the hood is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 that is producing 250HP & is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the outside you will find black 18in wheels, unique grill, and lower rear bumber. On the inside you will find the high level of fit & finish, plus an 8.8in infotainment screen. Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo AWD a sport SUV you should BUY??

I have a 2021 CX-30 and I absolutely love it. It is a great daily driver and so much fun on the highway. Once you get used to the infotainment system, the lack of a touch screen is no big deal. It's placement makes it much easier to see.

Just bought this spec 3 weeks ago, our 1st SUV/Crossover. Wife likes it b/c she sits higher, it's small and nimble with more than enough power for around town. Driving dynamics are great and can't wait to try it in the snow! In our 1st 1600 miles, we are averaging well over 30MPG with mix of city and highway, much better than advertised. Hate the cladding, but it's OK with the Deep Crystal Blue metallic. Few things annoy me being new and not used to it, don't mind not having touch screen, last 5 sedans have been German. This blows away the Audi Q3 BMW X1, especially on price ;)

Mazda has been backing down on performance though. The powertrains are improving (this compact cuv is impressive) but are going down on suspension sportiness in favor of cheap suspension which they back by the claim of heading in a luxury direction. I think Honda has the sportiest, Mazda the styling.

Thanks for the review - and yes, this is a performance sport crossover. I sold my Civic Type R and bought the CX-30 Turbo. I'm glad I did. The Type R was like your friend "with benefits", lots of fun but not the one for a long term relationship. The CX-30 is like the person you meet, fall in love with, and marry. It's simply everything I've always loved about Japanese cars: easy on the eyes, responsive and comfy, and well-engineered without being so overly engineered that it's likely to break in an expensive way (I'm talking about you, BMW). Six-speed tranny? Fine, works great. Small back seat? I'll never be in it. Cladding? Whatever, even if you don't like it, you can't see it from behind the wheel...which come to think of it is what I would always say about the styling of the Type R. Maybe my best car buying decision in 30 years.

I got 6k in rebates and have geomet corss drilled rotors on all 4 and am getting offers in the mid 40k range which is at least 6k or more then I paid for it.

My personal zonks on both the cx30 and cx5: 1. The sunglasses holder is difficult to put your glasses in without looking and often my glasses fall down on the shifter while attempting to stow them 2. The visors extension is a joke and doesn’t do the best job (I prefer our equinox’s visor extension) 3. Dark chrome should be available on at least the carbon edition/turbos 4. Back seat is tight for a rear facing car seat (only fits in the center) and the seat is not inclined so I had to put a board under the base to keep the car seat angled correctly Things I love: 1. Bose sound system 2. Infotainment is great and I have not wished that it was touch a single time 3. How quiet and luxurious it feels especially for the price

I sold my Stinger today for a profit and went and bought one of these outright,For what it is--it is plenty fast.It still can get on the HWY in triple digit speeds with no problem (Stinger could hit 100 about halfway down the hwy ramp--this can hit it about 2/3--and this is in comfort). The turbo lag is worse then my stinger--but once this gets to about 20 mph it is very quick. The AWD system is also very good--it is less intrusive then an Audi A6 and except for sitting up higher--the CX-30 tracks well/A set of bigger performnce tires would make this a very nice sport SUV.BTW the interior is actually better quality then my stinger and do no laugh but it almost rivals new Audis--at least the a4 and A6 I have driven.I plan on lightly modding mine with an exhasut and maybe an intake--but for what it is--it scoots--I believe in one test they did--it was only .2 off of a Type R Civic. It also has a lot of torque down low.I miss my Stinger but they sold the local track near me and the price of stingers jumped--very rarely do you get to drive a car for a year and a half and make a profit.

I love this little car. I had a 2021 cx-30 loaner while my 2017 cx-5 was getting its water pump replaced. Peppy car for the base engine and was a hoot to toss around corners. Coming from a cx-5, the interior felt very small and almost claustrophobic. Suspension was pretty smooth for the most part but a bit harsh on some roads. I think due to the shorter wheelbase, compared to the cx-5, it felt stiffer. My cx-5 with aftermarket 20" wheels rode smoother than the cx-30. Aside from that, it's a fun little car. It’s Lexus comfy for much less, handles like a mini it’s just so nimble. It has all the tech needed, some of the best and brightest headlights on a car/crossover that move w/steering wheel, can’t get that on much comparable competitors! Everything is 1 touch, love the power lift gate and Bose sound system, super comfy seats and probably the loudest car horn installed in the world..everyone gets scared 😎Now the PROBLEM - as the hotter temps rolled by I noticed every time I would accelerate the ac system would blow warm air then when foot was off the gas pedal the cold air came back, took it to dealer and was told that’s how the car was made..not the strongest system and poor design is what I was told. Then I took it for a recall months later, complained about ac warm air when accelerating (vw/Volvo would do this back in the day) and I was told Mazda had a software upgrade..I was thrilled they solved the problem. Then early summer I would say to myself that I’ve never been cold in my car and neither have my passengers, I’ve never lowered the fan speed because I was cold. Took it to the dealer and was told Mazda didn’t use best ac system but performing to specs, then took it again after and was told same. Now last week while I was reversing noticed with fan speed on high nothing was coming out of the vents and it was 102 degrees outside. I recorded the issue, car is currently with dealer. I requested Mazda buyback the car..you just can’t live in hot climate with a bad ac system. So let’s see what they say.

UPDATE - THE dealer replaced the electronic computer that controls the ac system. New problem - while driving last week I noticed my car said that it was 22 degrees outside when in fact it was 85 degrees outside. I got hot and turned the ac on to only find out my cx30 was blowing hot air, it blew hot air for 40mins and while I was 5mins from the dealer the cold air came back. These cars have ac issues..Mazda corporate is aware but not doing anything to resolve it. I test drove a new 2021 cx30 awd turbo and while accelerating it blew warm air then when I let go of the gas pedal the cold air came back..Mazda has a software upgrade available and no idea why they haven’t installed it. I told the sales man but he was clueless as most salesman are on the product they’re trying to sell. I swear, I’ve turned into a Mazda genius the time I’ve owned my CX 30.

Imagine how many Twinkies you could fit/hang in a bag lol😂 Seriously though, overall one of the most stunning SUVs for 2022. Door handle inside has a really cool design too, the dash looks like a Mercedes I think.
