That's not really true. I test drove Mazda a lot recently trying to buy a car. And I didn't like Mazda at all. The interior felt cheap. It looked good but it felt cheap. The infotainment was slow as hell. Which I was told "there will be an update later to make that better". It accelerated worse than a CVT engine from Honda.. which I already thought was weird. Im tall. I didn't fit very well in that car. It felt cramped actually. I didn't feel like I had space as a driver. Reliability isn't a big deal anymore when you're cross shopping against cars that are the same price. Toyota and Honda are also reliable. And you'll get a better engine and more luxury etc. Is Mazda awful? No. But it has some competition and it will still struggle since it gets lumped with Toyota and Honda and they'll usually have more access to dealerships, promotions, cost effectiveness etc. Mazda is priced decently. But for a little bit more you can have a much better car. So they're in a very odd spot in my opinion.

Just bought one of these a week ago. I’ve owned several Mazdas and it’s because they’re incredibly reliable, amazing to drive, and they look better than anything in their price range. I used to have a Lexus IS 250 in my single days and the cx50 is the only car I’ve owned since then that feels more luxurious than the Lexus. Mazda simply does not get enough credit for their vehicles. They’re easily the best in the biz right now compared to the competition.

I don’t think many will cross shop between the CX50 and the Subaru but they are a good comparison. The Subaru will appeal to those looking for safety, reliability and light off road capability. The Mazda will appeal to those looking for a budget sporty luxury SUV.
@haroldbeauchamp3770
Жыл бұрын
Literally no one thinks of Subaru for reliability. Garbage cvt, history of blown head gaskets, oil consumption, valve guide leaks, fuel pump failures, wheel hubs, dead batteries, electrical issues, the list is endless. Subaru appeals to a regional cult following in the Pacific Northwest and Colorado. It’s virtually unseen in the Midwest, the south, east coast, and desert southwest. There’s a small following in New England states like Vermont and Maine.

@@slandshark You’re absolutely right. Mazda has never focused on building off-road capable vehicles, and Subaru has an incredibly bulletproof AWD system. However, Mazda‘s predictive i-active AWD system is heavily overlooked, and sadly Mazda just hadn’t really put it to good use. We don’t get the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck here in North America, but i know in Central/South America there’s a massive need for reliable and capable off-road vehicles, and the Mazdas there are selling just as well as Subaru and Toyota because of how well they perform off-road.

This mechanical detail should not be overlooked on the Mazda CX-50. Mazda used a torsion beam on the rear instead of the multi-link suspension used on Mazda CX-5. The move did not improve packaging for the CX-50 as the cargo space is not larger. Also, the added length did not give any more legroom to back seat passengers, it did but it’s so tiny it’s negligible. Good to know before you buy. Most reviewers say the CX-50 doesn’t charge a penalty for having the torsion beam.

Mazda would destroy Subaru if they offered an actual cheaper more utilitarian/off-road version without the leather and bells and whistles, especially if they put the turbo engine in it and better shocks. Mazda is the "identity crisis" brand when it comes to this, but I'd still buy it over a Subaru any day of the year. Waaaay too many issues with Subarus and it seems every 5 years or so they claim they "fixed" the issues, whilst still having a high resale value? A base model CX-30 can be had for 23k with now standard AWD and standard 190hp whereas the Subaru forces you to move up in full trim with less horsepower (186) to the 2.5l and I haven't found one with the same mileage that didn't cost well over 30k. That's not even including the wilderness version which is roughly $45-46k. Subaru has lost their minds.

I don’t think many will cross shop between the CX50 and the Subaru but they are a good comparison. The Subaru will appeal to those looking for safety, reliability and light off road capability. The Mazda will appeal to those looking for a budget sporty luxury SUV.

You should visit Massachusetts. I see Subarus everyday.
I wish they sold this in the UK. I see it when I travel to the US and love it.
Loving the range of cars reviewed now!
Mazda is more on the level of Lexus and Acura, and since I’m all about brand image.. yea I’ll take a Mazda over a Subaru😂 I just feel like there’s not much to compare
Mazda CX-50 for sure!
If you prefer Japanese reliability on the assembly, be wary as the CX-50 is built in USA as opposed to the CX-5, which is largely assembled in Japan. Check the label when you open the door to be sure.
Subaru is way better. Roof rails, more space and better towing capacity. Only thing missing in the Subaru is heads up display. Other than that you get much more in the Subaru Outback than you do in Mazda.
Had a Mazda 6 as our first car, loved it, even though it was the base Sport model it felt very upscale and the NA engine was plenty powerful. Got a CX-5 when that 6 got totaled and don't regret it a bit. Mazdas punch way above their price and they have been very reliable vehicles.
In Canada. Mazda is killing. CX5 are everywhere. As a 2019 GS with Comfort Package owner. They are miles ahead in interior Vs Rav4 and CRV. Plus handling is love. I can only imagine CX50 is a ls good as CX5. The only downside is these are made in murica. Hence quality cannot be compared to CX5s.
Bro your videos really are helping me while car shopping
bro i was waiting so long for the cx-50 to drop on ur channel
