    LOL! Just an hour ago I had this happen to me: “Why won’t the car start!!!!????” (even though all the lights came on, so it wasn’t my battery). Turns out my steering wheel was locked because I hurt my knee earlier today so I clung to the steering wheel for dear life when I got into the car. Figured out it was the steering wheel and unlocked it and the car started just fine. Of course, it happened in front of all my friends…. I came home and started watching your video and it was the first thing you mentioned. I sent the video to my friends, “Well, I guess I’m not the only one!”

    I use the PIN feature and lock my key in the car often. I really like this feature. Recently thought of this, but how do you regain access to the vehicle if the battery is dead? Found the tail gate part about setting how much to open helpful. Learned something new. Also, I like how my mirrors fold in when I lock the vehicle. Gives me a little peace knowing the vehicle is locked by looking at it.

    There's a backup power reserve that holds enough stored power to open locks in case the main starter battery dies. It also holds all your presets ie: radio, drivers seat, etc if the battery dies or is disconnected.

    I have tried and tried, but even though the key is definitely asleep (I have tested in on the outside), when I try and lock it in the car, the door just opens again when I pull the handle, even though I locked the car with the button in the door. There must be a setting I have inadvertently chosen that interferes with this perhaps? Ideas? (2024 Outback)

  • @GaryBlouin

    @GaryBlouin

    2 ай бұрын

    @@heikemotzek5954 I just went out and did a couple tests. 1) I tried to lock the key in my 2024 Outback without it going to sleep. I locked the door and closed it. The Outback complained and unlocked the door. 2) I put the FOB to sleep, put it in the car and closed the door. It worked. Key is in car and door is locked. 3) I also tried what you wrote, I put key to sleep, placed in car and clicked on the lock button on the door. That worked too. Not sure why you need to click the door button to lock it. For my Outback, when I put the key to sleep, it locks all the doors automatically. I don't have to push the lock button on the door. Maybe you're pressing the unlock button by mistake? Other thoughts, is this feature only available in certain countries? Is the key FOB battery low? - I wouldn't think so since you have a 2024 Outback too. My suggestion - go to the dealership and ask for assistance. Or, if they are a bit far, give them a call but I think visiting in person would be the best case. I'm interested in any updates you may have / if it gets resolved and how.

  • @GaryBlouin

    @GaryBlouin

    2 ай бұрын

    @@heikemotzek5954 Another thought - when I put my key to sleep, I typically have one of the doors open. I usually put it to sleep at the tailgate since I try to hide my key back there. By chance, are all your doors closed (or the door your using is closed) when you put the key to sleep? If so, that might be the issue. If you're outside the vehicle, put the key to sleep and then use it to open the door, the key is no longer asleep. The key wakes up when any of the buttons on the key is pressed. Just thinking through some scenarios of why it doesn't work for you.

    Go to settings, go to the sound category, scroll to the bottom, make sure it's set to remember the last audio setting. Be sure to turn the radio down before leaving the vehicle, or you can press and hold "source" on the left side of your steering wheel before leaving, which turns off the audio entirely.

    I love the power lift gate feature; I HATE that I can't turn off the key fob control for it. I've come out of the house way too many times since I bought the car in late November to the tailgate wide open, once in the middle of a snowstorm. Now I'm taking my keys out of my pocket as soon as I walk into my house, as I'm sure it's a matter of the button being pressed as I sit or move around - but I'd like to keep the power lift gate functionality, while disabling the remote open capability from the key fob. I found a reference online to an option that exists in the vehicle software that a dealership can access to do this, but in that thread many people indicated they had been told by their dealerships that this wasn't possible. What do you recommend?

    The power liftgate will not open if the engine is running, or if the auxiliary power is still on (You shut off the engine but music is still playing) - you have to open the door before you can open the gate. Rather inconvenient if you're doing a grocery pick-up or have another reason to want to remain in the vehicle but open the gate. Also the lane centering will literally jerk your steering wheel, sometimes causing the car to swerve. My '21 Forester did that to me when there was a widening of the highway for a side road approach. I quickly figured out how to turn that off.

    I have a '22 Outback Limited and the power liftgate will not open with the engine running and in gear, but it will open with the engine running and the car in park.

    Why not turn off the car? It seems somewhat rude to blow your exhaust at the loader. And I can open my rear gate with accessories still playing (‘22 forester)

    Learn how to signal and the wheel won't jerk like that. Also, the lift gate _does_ open with the engine running.

    My 2024 Ascent turn signal stays stuck on after I completed the turn, do I need to bring the car to the dealership as it should still be under warranty, or is there a quick fix? Thank you.

    Thank you for sharing these tips! I have one problem with Apple car play & iPhone 15 MAX. Our phones are connected to the Apple care play except one device. My wife's iPhone 15 max pro. I tried all troubleshooting that I could find on KZread or Apple site, yet we still have an issue with this particular iPhone. when it connect we can hear audio only with no other connection, like maps, etc. Do you have any recommendations? My car is 2020 Legacy Touring XT.

    I’ve been doing research on Subaru’s for a good month now and this is the first I’m hearing of the secret PIN code. Is this standard across all models/trims?

    I have a 24 Outback Onyx. One question. When I have groceries I often put them in the back seat. Is there a way to open the backseat doors without the fob? I have found I have to either use the proximity thing to open the front door then I have to set things down and push the unlock button in the front door to open the back. Or take fob out of pocket and push unlock button. Thanks!

    Thanks for the detailed information, although it does feel like there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong. We have a 2017 Outback Premium. No power liftgate, no sunroof, no lane centering, MPI instead of GDI, far fewer touch-screen functions. I wonder if Subaru would build us a new 2017 when the time comes to replace it? 🤔

    A lot of cars have had locking steering wheels since the 80s maybe earlier. I never realized this was news to people.

    I normally lock my car with either the back of my hand or my elbow depending on how full my hands are. And I don’t like the alternate locks on top or bottom of the handle.

    YES! I would like to know this too. I wear sunglasses and if I wear a pair that is different to the one that I was wearing for the driver set up, it spends the whole trip telling me to look at the road. Very annoying!

    Thank you for this video, Alex! At the end of it, I noticed again , that your Outback has this Auto Vehicle Hold "A" in the permanent Menu panel on the screen . And it is sad to note, that the latest 2024 Outbacks are still waiting for this update, to get this button in the permanent menu.
