This is PROBABLY one of the rantiest videos on my channel because I really do hate this movie that much. But, If you like it, that's great, not trying to make you feel bad for that. These were just my immediate post movie thoughts which is usually saved for my live streams at this point. Rafe Spall is actually a fine actor but the writing in this movie really didn't allow for that to show through. I may take a more constructive look at reasons I feel it really fails at what it should have been because I hate what it was. But we'll see! Enjoy whatever you want, JW fans.

I saw this movie for the first time fairly recently. I remember seeing the original Jurassic Park in the cinemas back when I was 7 years old and it was a huge deal for me because I loved dinosaurs so much. I've pretty much refused to associate any movie in the franchise that followed it with the original. This one though.... man... I'm glad I was drinking while watching it, let alone afterwards.

Notice how in the original film, and the two following ones despite their flaws, we are never shown a dinosaur deliberately harmed or killed gratuitously by humans or their environment. The ones we do see are either by natural predation (Rex chasing/eating a Gallimimus in JP), territorial dispute (Spino vs. Rex in JP3) or legitimately saving a human from being eaten (Raptor kicked out a window/impaled on a stake in TLW). It's like the filmmakers knew to respect the imagery of the creatures, that the audience is supposed to be in awe of them despite their dangerousness. JW and JWFK just didn't give a crap about any of that, the creatures are just objects, not characters. A raptor literally gets bazooka'd in JW while it was standing still, loose pterosaurs just attack willy-nilly picking up baby Triceratops and people, just to get gratuitously eaten by the Mosasaur while carrying the British assistant nanny lady. I'm glad I listened to the few critics I trust that disliked JWFK and completely skipped it, despite being a huge JP fan and paleontology enthusiast in general. I honestly have zero hopes for JW3 being any good. Not if they keep the same shit writers.

@@CeltycSparrow That was literally an action by one of the antagonists, the greedy hunter dude who just wanted a trophy 'bull' T. rex kill. I'd like to point out that in the Jurrasic Park book one of the raptors gets killed by the lawyer using a rocket launcher. Perhaps that why they included that scene in JW? Hollywood is all about callbacks to better material nowadays. Not taking away from your point, just a thought I had

  • @AngellusBlack

    @AngellusBlack

@@jatzi1526 I doubt the people behind this movie were smart enough to make such a callback (i.e.: they aren't the reader type), and that scenario was such a minuscule part in the entire book, it would be bit odd to fixate on it. They most likely blew up a creature because they villainized them and thought it would be cool.

It is so crazy I was upset over the exact same. I remember the "Awe" and "Amazingness" when the characters see the dinosaurs for the very first time. I remember as it being magical, and special. The Jurassic World franchise killed ALL of that, and did it very quickly. Park goers aren't satisfied anymore by just seeing animals that have been extinct for millions of years. They were so bored by the average Dino, scientists had to "make" a Frankinsteins Monster, so to speak, with more teeth. The second movie was a horrible picture, with a horrible and incredibly moronic plot, with insanely bad writing and worse acting. It was pretty much a flick about the abuse of animals that we brought back from extinction, and then killed almost all of them again. I absolutely could have made this exact video, word for word. I even shed some tears when you did. I hated the horrible scenes that you hated also. There were so many pointless and complicated plot twists and character arcs. Sad, tragic and more disappointing than any other movie I've ever been disappointed in.

That kind of snapped me out of it, and the people buying these dinosaurs as weapons for like a million dollars was so ridiculous. You can’t buy a studio in Manhattan for a million, but these dinosaurs that are supposed to be some new super type of weapon sell for a cool million? I was so sure they were going to do some sort of imprint thing with the girl and the indo raptor. It seemed like that's what they were setting up. They had it gently touch her hair whilst she overhead the conversation about it needed a mother, it quietly and calmly coming into her room and not killing her and it only seeming to be aggressive when other people were around her. It makes me think that they did a whole bunch of rewrites and ended up just smooshing 5 different scripts together. It would have lined it up much better with the original JP's if it made the 'monster' misunderstood and sympathetic.

Yeah, the brachiosaurus scene in the movie was sad as hell. It the first dinosaur that greeted us to the island of Nublar and it’s the dinosaur that we are saying goodbye to when leaving the island for good. Also, the thing about the laser pointer is that it’s not what the laser is for. It’s supposed to be the leash of the Indoraptor. So when the Indoraptor turns on you, you can point the laser the other way and it will follow the laser. Also, using Blue’s DNA would mean it would make the new Indoraptors capable of following human command and feel empathy and obedience like Blue. And Maisie being a clone did come out of nowhere, but Mills really thought that Claire and Owen would have the same low standards as him and ditch her completely. Luckily they didn’t. And the thing about Maisie being a clone, she felt sympathy for the Dinos because they were being killed off for not being naturally born like her and for being clones and freaks or nature. And after going through a lot in one night with Lockwood dying and Iris being kicked out, it would be a heavy toll on her and make her act impulsively. Also, for your information, a lot of Jurassic Park fans likes this movie. I’ve seen a lot of JP fans who likes this movie.

They made this film into a horror flick. They made the animals into monsters. Steven Spielberg even said, when making the first movie, that these were animals, but Fallen Kingdom chose to forget that. The third JP film, with Spinosaurus, was bad, but this was somehow worse. Not to mention how flat out confining the setting of the mansion was. The Jurassic series isn't so static with their settings. Yes, in the OG Park and World, they had one party out in the field and one party in a specific space, but that wasn't as confining as a freaking house that has no business being in the Jurassic Park/World series

Definitely agree with the character aspect. I think that's something Marvel has done really well. They write characters that develop through their series and those developments are pertinent to the ensemble films. Characters act the way you expect them to based on what they've experienced in their own films. They characters are never written to fit whatever story they want to tell, they write the story to fit the journey the characters have been on.

Amanda the Jedi I enjoyed Solo, as well. It's just that the damn boycotters didn't give it a chance. It was an ok movie. But I believe The Last Jedi is STILL wrongly getting hated on. I even made a video defending the movie. The Last Jedi is not a shitty sequel. Fallen Kingdom is. Rose isn't an annoying character. Franklin Webb is. Rian Johnson isn't a terrible writer. Colin Trevorrow is. Star Wars isn't ruined. The Jurassic Park franchise is. I made an initial reaction video for this movie and the more I talked about it, the more I hated it. What Universal and Colin Trevorrow (I know he only wrote this one. But I blame him the most, along with the writer of Monster Trucks, Derek Connolly.) did to this franchise is downright unforgivable. It's like Pacific Rim: Uprising only FAR worse!! And Universal made that one, too! (Sorry if this reply's a bit long. I just really fucking HATE this movie.)

I think the Last Jedi does as lot of things wrong, but it has some truly amazing moments. Disney screwed Solo by releasing it less than 6 months after TLJ to try and get a big memorial day weekend hit. If it had been released in December I don't think it would have gone nearly as bad. Rian Johnson just needs to know when to add comedy and where to remove it. The movie has a lot of moments with truly incredible moments of tension that gets broken by poorly placed comedy, and that's coming from a massive fan of comedy in Marvel movies. It's just knowing when to use it and when to exclude it. But I agree, the JP franchise is truly dead, going the direction of giant stupid monster movies which was never what it was supposed to be.

Amanda the Jedi I agree that Solo should have been released in December. And yeah. Some moments in TLJ didn't really need the comedy. But for me, the moment where the comedy truly didn't work was when Rey tried to pull her lightsaber back to her but as Snoke pulls it back it knocks Rey on the head. Like *bop*. At least TLJ made me laugh at all. This movie got no chuckle from me. And the scene where the Indoraptor is playing dead, trolling Buffalo Bill and smiling at the camera was just dumb.

It did have some nostalgia stuff in it & a good ending / lead-up for JW3. I’m excited for that to be out. Also, nice touch on the Redd’s apple cider 🍎🍺 that made it funnier ^^. I love redd’s apple cider.

Yknow, it’s funny. I literally grew up on Jurassic Park from the age of a year and a half, it’s my favorite movie, hell I’m even thinking of getting a name change based on it (but not in the way anyone expects, I’m sure). And the World trilogy, started off on a meh note, and then the trailers for Fallen Kingdom started. And they hyped up this super new terrifying dinosaur so much, I was constantly having dreams that were just total nonstop nightmare horror with fucked up cloning gone wrong monster dinosaurs. Genuinely terrifying, wake up in the dead of night stuff. Yknow, the kind of vibe the trailers expected us to feel. Then I watched the movie and while there were fleeting moments that could’ve been scary in the hands of a much better director and writing team, I mostly just laughed at their scary dinosaur. Really a let down, I gotta say. Oh yeah and all the other stupid things too.

My favorite character of this movie was the Lion. Roaring back at a set of teeth like a Trex. Respect. Since this franchise has become beyond silly at this point I hope they dubble down and have Rexy and mr Lion be best friends next movie and Rexy just adopting a pride of lions to hunt with because why not? Seems the question they asked for movie 5. The 5th movie (and in my opinion the 4th one as well) are best summerised with an in franchise conversation. They where so busy thinking on if they could, instead of if they should.

This video is old, I know, but I just have to anecdote/spiel for a moment, regardless of whether or not anyone sees it. This movie was so terrible, horrific, traumatising, ad infinitum (stupid vs depressing, indeed) just during the first 15 (20?) minutes involving (mama) brachiosaurus, as you said, mirroring our first formative, magical childhood images we all had of her/it - ESPECIALLY the guttural, pleading moan (the s o u n d !!) that she wails when DYING in AGONY from gd LAVA (which DESTROYED me) - that I looked over at my friend on the couch (because I had NOT seen it in cinemas, fortunately, and this was my first viewing) and said, thickly and through tears, “Turn this shit off. You owe me $18 (the price of buying it on itv because we used my account and I FOOLISHLY thought this would be worth it).” Which she promptly did and PayPaled me the money. I think we turned on Golden Girls instead for a tv comfort blanket. This was/is unprecedented. I have literally never done this with a film. I think I’ve only walked out of one film in my life, which is similar to my decision here but not identical...This ramble is probably the most incoherent mess... Anyway, great rant/review. Everyone PLEASE stay away from this trash and heed this advice, please. Seriously. I am so glad I stopped it when I did. Now, to go cleanse my cerebral palate with the original Jurassic Park (1993) 💯✨✌🏻 xx

They reused the CGI from the original movie, the director thought it was a nice Easter Egg for fans at least according to the Honest Trailers commentary.

I’m a big fan of Jurrasic Park. I tried to watch this movie the other day but I couldn’t take it. I stopped when the bad guy was torturing one of the dinos by taking one of the teeth out. The essence of Jurassic Park was about the dinos being magnificent, strong survivors and scary, but also vulnerable animals. This movie was none of that : the dinosaurs were either portrayed as weak and hopeless or dumb agressive. The torture and cruelty towards them was vicious. We saw them being burned alive by a volcano, drowning, tortured, and being gassed alive. If this was a critique to the current animal agriculture I would at least understand where they’re coming ftom with the message but this was just for the sake of shocking the audience and also a lack of respect towards the dinosaurs. Hate it.
