I LOVED IT! Going to watch repeatedly so I can memorize it and make all my friends groan.

I've heard it before but it was longer. He was a bus conductor, And after electrocution doesn't work, They pardon him, Then he puts in efforts to be better, He finally becomes good at his job. He achieves his dreams, Then one day with some mishap, he gets sent back to prison. The same warden is there. He has already given up, but tried electrocuting him anyway. And he instantly dies. That's because now he was a good conductor...

On fridght trains the conductor is in charge of the train, above the engineer, and can also relieve the engineer driving. It's only on passenger trains where the word is misused to be the guy handling the passenger experience and tickets.

It’s always difficult to decide whether to include Interpol or Scotland Yard. Including them makes the joke longer (which is good), but they don’t have acronyms, so stylistically they don’t fit. I did include them when I first started telling this joke more than 40 years ago.

The joke is that “Conductor” can refer to an electrical conductor or a Railroad Conductor (even though the character in the story was an Engineer, not a Conductor).

The letters are just the acronyms for various law enforcement agencies. Texas is best for this joke due to their being historically committed to the death penalty. As for the feasibility of routing electricity into Texas from all over the world … I must confess that the story is entirely fictitious.

My original channel name was PedanticDan, so just in case … one of the many jobs on a train is the Conductor. So, a lousy conductor would A) wreak havoc on a train, or B) not conduct electricity, making an electric chair in effective.
