HEAVY Train Can't Make It Up Hill & Stalls, My Best Short Line Railroad Video Ever! Must See Video!

Ойын-сауық

Extra Heavy Train Stalls Out On Steep Grade & Terrible Driver Almost Gets Car Hit With Railroad Crossing Gate! Big Grain & Rock Train fights gravity on a long, steep and curvy grade in Williamsburg, Ohio on short line railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. This is a long and heavy train loaded with grain, railroad cross ties and rock. With business picking up dramatically over the past couple of years, the trains are getting longer and heavier. I think this is my best CCET video yet.
First we see the train in Mount Orab, Ohio coming across the High Street railroad crossing. Notice the old train station and historic buildings. We also see remnants of 2 railroad sidings. This is a perfect area for model railroad enthusiasts.
Next we see the train attacking the steep grade in Williamsburg, Ohio. It kept slowing down until it finally stopped and rolled back a little when the slack came out. It might have made it if there had not been a slow order in place on the hill. The engineer called the conductor on the radio and had him cut the train in half. The first section of the train went a short distance to Afton Yard and left the cars on a siding there. The locomotives ran lite back to the remaining section of the train that consisted of hopper cars loaded with rock. We see the train making the two trips to Afton where the train was put back together. Notice the terrible driver in the video who wasn't paying attention. The lights were flashing, bells ringing and the gates coming down before she got to the crossing. She got surprised, stopped the car next to the crossing and then backed up with the crossing gate just missing the top of her car. This is the same crossing that I filmed a school bus getting hit with a crossing gate and the bus remaining in place with the train passing.
I also filmed the train at a couple of other railroad crossings before it got to Williamsburg. They will be included in another video due to the length of this video. One of the crossings is next to a long dip in the track which is pretty cool to watch the train go down and up that section. The other crossing is one of my favourites because it has a house next to the crossing with a perfect view of the trains and there is a maintenance of way siding there that is still active.

Now that’s what I call awesome, this shortline really puts on a show. These crews really earn their money. I sure would’ve liked to have seen this line under NS and N&W ownership. The fact that they had to double the hill splitting up their train indicates how steep that hill is. Nice to see, although not in service, an old N&W CPL signal still standing. Your right, this is your best shortline video ever. The CCET is an awesome short line. Thanks JT.

I remember back around 7 years ago or so when something similar happened near Winchester, Ohio on this line. They had a short grain train with one Geep. The locomotive was low on fuel, the sanders were not working and the rails were wet. The train stalled with only about 5 loaded grain cars and they had to run the locomotive back to the shop near Newtown, make repairs and come back the next day. I have that old video somewhere on here

I may have known that hogger, was it in Chicago, or the suburbs? When I started there in the early 70s, we'd get a job to deliver loaded gons to the IHB RR on the night shift and would usually stall and need a shove up the steep hill from the east end of yard 4, having to wait a half hour or more for the shove from another yard job.Location wise that was just west of Lake street and 25th Ave Melrose Park. Good video, JT, I could hear the wheel slip happening on that 2nd pull at about 22:30. You'd think they'd let them have a back to back consist instead of them traveling bass ackwards long hood leading across all those road x-ings. Must be a heck of a grade to strain 2 locos with those short cuts.

That takes a very skilled hand on the throttle!

Nice video of this heavy Cincinnati Eastern train having trouble making it up steep grade in Williamsburg, Ohio, Jaw Tooth! The two engines were working hard to get the loaded stone hopper cars up the grade. The lady who backed her car behind the gate before it came down did not have to go through that maneuver. She could have easily driven across the tracks before the train arrived at the crossing. Moe than likely she thought that the train was moving faster than it was moving so she opted to back up behind the gate. I am glad that you caught this train before Daylight Saving Time ended so that y capture the doubling of the steep grade in Williamsburg, Ohio.

Or paranoid that a cop would see her cross against the active crossing lights. I was a passenger in a friend's car in Chicago Heights, Ill. a long time ago and we came to a RR crossing. He slowed down before the crossing and we were about 30 feet from the tracks when the crossing lights came on and you could see the train was still a distance away. He locked it down right there and backed up to avoid the barricade arm that was dropping while the car behind us hit the left lane and flew past us and crossed the tracks. I said "Wow man, you had plenty of time to get across. What's up with you?" He said "My dad had this happen to him here once and he went on and crossed the tracks. A city cop a couple of cars back saw him and the cop pulled out and ran the crossing lights himself to stop my dad and write him a $500 ticket, so yeah I'm not gonna take that chance."

@@larrywalker7759Wow! That was a hefty fine for crossing the tracks in the Heights. In the past I have seen a lot of cars go around the gates at Park/Lincoln Avenue in Dalton, Illinois. @@thomasmackowiak The incident where I was in the car with my friend happened around 1990. I am not sure if we were actually still in Chicago Heights proper but he and his family lived in Chicago Heights. As to the veracity of his story all I can say is that was what he told me. He also told me that if you ran out of gas on the freeways in Chicago that you would pay a $500 fine and your car would be towed. Maybe this was just his style of embellishing stories or something but I had no reason to think he was not telling the truth. I know that nowadays in highway construction work zones we see signs warning a $500 fine for speeding.

Maybe they should've at least kept the old IMRL SD45-2 that used to be on the CCET.

Great catch of the CET SD40 and GP15 pulling a HEFTY consist of cars! Its unbelievable how the slightest grade can affect a train to make it stall. But when pulling Grain and Stones and you roughly figure every 5 cars is a Million lbs will certainly make a locomotive struggle. Nice job as always JT and always enjoy seeing the CET short line railroad working hard! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware my friend.

@∈ x ∈ the SD40 has 6 axels and the GP15 has only 4 and of course its shorter. When pulling a consist of cars the SD40 will always be the lead locomotive.

Wow, what an awesome video! That train was really working hard. Wonder why they didn't add two more units. Maybe that would have helped going over the hill. Awesome all the same. That old signal would be cool if it was still turned on but oh well. Love the mechanical bells at 18:00. Wish all crossings still had them. Oh well. Have a nice day ☺️

Sometimes I believe the desk drivers use the slow orders just to mess with the crew and residents in town. Made the job manager mad after I had sharpened all the drill bits and the jobs were only taking half the time

The two beautiful locomotives #3512 and #1686 give us a noisy horn concert when they arrive on the crossing while a white truck barely crosses it! There are no gates on this crossing.
