Why swap Aivers and Luke? Just because they are Brothers doesn't mean they shouldn't have to compete against each other. They are doing the same comp. Frankly this is a great way to pick the groups so human bias is taken out of it. The fact it is so good means Worlds won't do it. They don't give a shit about the sport itself, for them it's just a TV show.

  • @AdmiralRustyShackleford

The whole group concept needs to be thrown out. It needs to be one single set of events that all athletes do, and the top 10 go to the finals. That's the only fair way to do it, it ensures that the top athletes are in the finals, no one gets an "easy heat." I believe that's how the 2004 WSM was, and it seemed like it worked fine. If someone can genuinely explain why that wouldn't work, I'm listening.

All 20 compete in the same events, the lowest of each of the first 10 events is eliminated each event. After that you know the top ten. Lowest of 19 is eliminated, lowest of 18 etc. At 10 we go into a semi-normal competition. No one is eliminated. I also think it would be cool for the eliminated athletes to get on air mic time to guest commentate and introduce themselves. Alternate is the "guest" commentator at the beginning. #20 is guest commentator for 2nd event. etc. WSM really needs to showcase the personalities of the athletes more and this is the cheapest way I can think of to bring it together. During the second phase I would also find if fascinating to have a round table discussion of the 11-20 talking about events and athletes in snippets.

Eliminating any athlete after one event would be a pretty poor approach in my opinion. Nearly every athlete has one or two bad events, and I don't think it would make sense to eliminate someone based on bombing their worst event when they could crush most of the competitors on the rest of the events. I feel like this idea removes the benefit of grading athletes on their cumulative strengths and weaknesses. I love the rest of your ideas of getting everyone some air time. The edited footage they show on TV is so rushed and impersonal feeling

Thanks, I think your discussion on this shows just how even the competitors are now, compared to just a few years ago where there were, to put no finer point on it, some make weights drafted in. Now, those you chose in 6-10 seeds could quite easily be beaten by those you have classed 11-30 and you wouldn't be surprised. I agree that Tom and Mitch are strong favourites but there is so much to play for for everyone else to get into the final and go for that third spot.

  • @postedbyneal

is it better to do 1-10 2-9 3-8 etc for the top 10, or 1-6 2-7 3-8 etc. I think there's an argument for the 2nd way so that it's 4-9 and 5-10 as the top 2 in 'weaker' groups and we're more likely for the top 5 to outright win their group. (compared with a 5-6 pairing the other way)

  • @Think_Deep

The argument for the first way is that it protects the very top seeds better, and it gives the 6/7/8 seeds a legitimate chance to win their groups.

Ideally, it would just be 30 athletes against each other (no groups) in some semi-final events, then the top 10 go to the finals. I think Bobby Thompson was 7th by points overall one year in the group stages, but got knocked out of the final by stone off. Get rid of groups and stone off. I understand it's harder to have a compelling narrative that way for the TV production, however.

  • @jessebutryn

    @jessebutryn

    14 күн бұрын

Sorry Rauno. I asked why it chose Rauno as a seed and got this: You are right to question the choice of Rauno Heinla as a seed in the group selections. When considering seeds, the focus should be on athletes with a strong track record of success in major competitions, particularly the World's Strongest Man and other high-profile strongman events. Seeding decisions can be based on factors such as recent results, experience, and reputation in the sport. Let me review Rauno Heinla's background and performance: Rauno Heinla is an experienced strongman competitor who has participated in various international competitions. He is known for his strength in specific events, particularly deadlift events, where he has set records and performed exceptionally well. While Heinla is a strong competitor, he may not be considered a top-tier seed compared to athletes like Tom Stoltman, Mitchell Hooper, and Adam Bishop, who have more consistently placed highly in major competitions. Based on this assessment, you might prefer a different athlete as a seed for Group 5. An alternative could be an athlete such as Trey Mitchell or Bobby Thompson, who have a stronger track record in major competitions. Thank you for pointing out the discrepancy, and I appreciate your feedback on the selection of seeds. Let me know if you need further adjustments or more information on the athletes' backgrounds.

I'm not political and usually don't believe in organizing things but it would be so messed up if certain fan favorites did not have a pretty good chance of making it. It's kind of like the sport of strong man, is where you have to mature into it. Random groups would probably be more ‘fair’, HOWEVER, it’d be a shame if a top3 lad would miss out just because (hypothetically) they got paired with Mitch and Tom.

Every year Loz and Liz chooses the best balanced groups and then WSM comes along and picks ridiculous groups.

Once the groups are announced, we wont know how balanced they are until about a year or two from now 😉😉. Just like 2020 group 3 - Tom, Oleksi, Trey and Maxime?!?!?!

I hope for Bobby's sake he doesn't end up in a group with Rauno, there's no way he wins that stone off. Really though after last year I don't think anyone wants to be in Rauno's group

I'm trying to find information on who streams WSM 2024 and it seems that the result is... nobody? Are the WSM organizers really that dumb that there is no live TV/stream/whatever coverage und we really have to wait until late summer/Christmas to see this if we can't attend the live event? Are they frankly stuck in the 1900s? Would appreciate an answer to my question if there is any way to see the competition, thanks guys

Why don’t they just put all the scores together for the heats? Then truly the top competitors would be in the final? I realize they probably don’t want to spoil the final or something, but it’s different events yes?

Heats make for good TV. It's almost like 2 separate competitions. You got to win/advance through stone off, then compete in the finals. I think having more in the finals would give us a better indicator. I'd take the top 2 from each heat then have 3/4 in the stones off.

You should try an AI generated groups. I don’t know how to do it, but someone here might.
