World's First F1.8 Full Frame ZOOM - Sigma 28-45mm DG DN

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Following the popular 18-35mm APSC lens, Sigma is back with a 28-45mm Full Frame version - & the optics are pretty great. But is the range broad enough? 🤔 Sample RAW FILES: geni.us/2845samples

    Sigma 24-35mm f/2, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 are the only sub-1.6x zooms I can think of. The former being the predecessor of this 28-45, was released nine years ago, and yet still holds up well, for only 1/3 of the price.

    Hey Matt! I think this lens is a dream for us photographers who work mainly with primes between 24 and 50mm, where a 24-70mm f2.8 doesn’t give us the look we want bokeh-wise. That’s why we buy f1.8 (or lower) primes right? So having only one lens with f1.8 aperture and not having to change lenses makes a session much more fluid and engaging without missing decisive moments. Cheers to Sigma!

    Matt…I was truly amazed by Sigma’s 24-35 Art …Especially when using in Las Vegas shooting Models at Aria and Vdara Hotels. I use only Natural Lighting. I will have to test drive this new 28-45 Art..back in Vegas. I have always loved Sigma’s Art Line..my Favorites are 50mm and 85mm and 105mm and 135mm. The 50mm 1.4 is Tack Sharp! I will be testing the new Panasonic SR1 ll and with Battery Grip. with the 60mm Sony Sensor..with only Sigma Art Line in Hawaii…plus Taking Fuji’s GFX 100 ll with the Battery Grip. Yes with all natural lighting. Love ur work…always been a major fan of ur honest work.

    Looks like a fun full day of shooting. I appreciate the honest review and I agree the zoom range vs size and weight doesn’t sound too appealing given the main selling point is the 1.8 aperture. I have the tamron 17-28 which also has an annoyingly limited zoom range but it is worth it because it’s small, light weight, and relatively inexpensive.

    If this lens is a preview of the 45-85 1.8 lens, then I support it with both hands. This would be really a game changer! I don't really use anything wider than 50, so i'd like to see what will be next.

    Thank you for the nice review Matt ☺️😊 The zoom range of this lens is very small indeed😢 basically it is like have two primes 28mm and 50mm f1.8, and I think set up will be smaller and better picture quality with the two lenses if you are going for stills... I can see only advantage if you use it for video, removing necessity for switching two lenses😊 video directed move from Sigma... Hopefully Nikon will make something like Canon already did with RF 28-70mm f2L... The only concern what size it is going to be😮😅

    I think its a very nice alternative to everything you would shoot with a fast 35mm - weddings and other kind of reportage, for example. i often throw a 24-70 2.8 or 20 1.4 into my bag just to have the option of beeing a bit more flexible and/or having the option of going wider than 35mm when i use the classic 35mm and 85mm lenses on a wedding day. instead of the 35mm and the backup lens i would just go with the 28-45. especially having the wide end makes quite a bit of a difference when you try to capture a spontaneos groupshot in tight places, want to capture a whole room or location etc. - quite interesting lens.

    Extremely unlikely. a 15mm f1.8 prime will already be huge and expensive. Putting in a zoom range to 50mm would make it commercially impossible I reckon.

  • @MeAMuse
    @MeAMuseАй бұрын

    I kind-of feel the same... I tend to think of lenses as a balancing act between flexibility, weight, performance, aperture, and price (among other things). For me the aperture & performance will not be enough to offset the lack of flexibility, high weight, and price. I would either embrace using primes or go to a wider zoom range at a narrower aperture depending on the situation. I definitely think that the Tamron 35-150mm makes sense because it tips the scale on flexibility (for obvious reasons). I like that one's range - my first DSLR was a Canon 7D with a 24-105 F4 and that was a good range for a lot of stuff... very similar.

    There are some wide angle zooms with shorter ratios like the Sigma 24-35mm f2, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, Tokina 21-30mm f2, or super telephotos such as the Pentax 400-600mm mirror lens or the huge and rate Nikon 1200-1700mm, but I don’t know of anything in the normal range.

    The lens is almost perfect for a person shooting two bodies. Some choose to shoot two bodies with a 28 or a 35 on one body and a 50 on the other body. This would give the ability to have one body fitted with the 28-45 and a 2nd with an 85 or 105.

    Wondering if the same views can be achieved by leaning forward or backwards with a 35mm f1.8 without stepping. In that case a smaller 35mm prime would still be my preference. Amazing lens though.

    If it were a 24-50mm f/1.8 it would be a way better offering. I guess it would have gotten even heavier and more expensive but at least the added expense would be more justified as truly being able to replace at least two other fairly expensive lenses.

  • @gingrai00

    @gingrai00

    I would prefer this range also and would give up the 1/3 stop to get the wider range if that helped with the size / weight. Even still, I wish this lens was available for Nikon as I would pick it up and run it on one of the bodies I carry giving me the option for an 85 on the second body without giving up too much between 45 and 85.

  • @unpluggeduk
    @unpluggedukАй бұрын

    I really loved the 18-35 but a 24-50 f2.8 would have made more sense as a full frame version of the original especially given the optics of the APS-C version were spot on. Even so, I could see a use for it as a fast wideish angle but given Sigma are not giving the Nikon Z mount any love, for now it's a no from me.

    6:17 Sounds good but not the focal lengths that appeal to me especially considering it's nearly a kilo to carry around. Maybe for event photographers? But exciting as what else may come, especially if Nikon would make some with their modern composite materials and keep the weight down. The Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 S Lens is incredible and so light for what it is. The way to go...

    It leaves me underwhelmed, a zoom “range” of 1.6, take a pace forward or back, 1 thing that does come to mind is if you’re using at 45mm on a FF then put it on an aps-c at 28mm the FOV would be almost the same which suggests to me it’s very video biased?
