World's Best Homemade Noodles with Gerry Barrett

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Gerry Barrett is now in her 94th year of life. Here she shares the family recipe for homemade noodles, passed down through husband John Barrett's mom. Her youngest son Joe pitches in to make this old family favorite. These hearty, rustic noodles are easy to make. And fun!!! If you like, serve them with Sirloin Beef Tips, which you can learn from a separate video that is posted. Click on the cog/gear symbol at the screen bottom, and change the quality to 720p, then watch on a larger screen size. Let Gerry know your thoughts, she loves to hear them. "When Love Comes" by Janis Barrett is available on Amazon and chronicles the life of Gerry and her husband John.

There is no greater way to show how much you love someone, then to cook a delicious meal! Your Mom is the sweetest and has certainly done a fantastic job, not only raising a family, creating wonderful food, but sharing that love with others! You are all very kind, generous and wonderful people. Thanks!

I second that, and just made a batch of these home made noodles, the dough is 'resting' now, i will cut & dry enough to cook for one meal for myself, and freeze the rest for later. Thank You! You have a wonderful son.

Thank you so much for this video! I daresay I enjoyed it more than any Food Network video recipe I've watched recently. I tried following a text-only recipe online last night for old fashioned chicken-and-noodles, but my dough was too dry so I added another egg, which I think made my noodles turn out very tough and chewy. It's so nice to see someone else work through a homemade noodle recipe so I know the RIGHT thing to do! I also had no idea I could use a food processor! So I will definitely be trying again tonight, with YOUR help, to salvage my leftovers. Thanks again! Edit: Also, thanks for the tip about cutting the dough into sections and folding pieces over one another for cutting quickly - that makes a huge difference in prep time!

The restaurant was in Red Lodge, in the early '60s. It was called The Chuck Wagon Cafe, a few doors down from the larger Red Lodge Cafe. Later they moved just across the border to Wyoming, and ran The Sportsman Cafe in Cody, a little cowboy cafe similar to their one in Montana.

@@brucebarrett8652 I'm truly sorry to hear your mom passed away. My mom passed away in September this year. She taught a very similar way (but without the food processor)! Today, I learned I can set my dough aside for a 1/2 hour and it helps the dough to incorporate a bit better; thank you for the tip! My mom, however, put the noodles straight into the pot with chicken broth and many times added a couple beef bouillon cubes. She would add celery and cream of mushroom soup to it as well. Usually, my girls help me make the noodles; my husband came in and asked how he could help! The extra help was welcomed because I made enough to feed an army (15 eggs) well, to take to a pot luck lunch! :)

@@mickirogers7306 Message from Gerry Barrett's son Joe: Thanks Micki. 15 eggs worth of noodles! Was it just a pot luck? Sounds like you were feeding an army. :-) Your mom’s way of cooking the noodles in broth with celery and mushroom soup sounds delicious. I imagine that way the noodles are already seasoned when done cooking and don’t need anything else. Did she turn the cooking liquid into any type of sauce for the noodles? Seems it might work since the floury noodles and cream of mushroom soup would thicken the broth. I’m sorry to hear about your mother but I’m glad you had the gift of being able to cook with her just like I did.

Very good recipe and professional presentation. In my childhood, most of the noodles served at the family dinner table were handmade by my mother using a recipe very similar to this. Just one question: For people who have health concerns regarding the use of raw eggs (not I), would it be more prudent to let the wrapped dough ball rest in the refrigerator before rolling out the dough? Many thanks. I just subscribed and hope to view more of your presentations.
