** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

Tough topic to justify. appreciate the shoutout. enjoy while you can for it will end sooner or later. Consider keeping this content closed from general public or adopt a more respectable approach to hunting hogs. Not only for the pity of the animal but social/mental health too, it`s very disturbing to the untrained eye and the web is open for all ages and backgrounds. people are curious. Please consider. Peace

In Europe those wild pigs are native, we eradicated their predators (bears and wolves, although they are returning) and they can get out of hand. So even here they need to be controlled in areas. In Berlin city for example, there are tons even in broad daylight... also because wolves don't go in the city. 1. It can be either, but contracting usually requires some extra paperwork I believe. 2. You can do as you please on private land without informing anyone. The United States has a long history and culture emphasizing individualism, and private property laws reflect that, be it in business regulations, climate regulations, and private property "activities". 3. Yes... Kinda. Wild boar meat itself is higher quality than most pork you find in stores, but wild boars can often have parasites and bacteria that can prove dangerous if not handled properly.

just need the landowner's permission to be on the land and agreement about what you're doing to do - and that might include removal of carcasses and such, fence closures - knowing where legitimate livestock are at - agreement about not shooting toward buildings - all the sane things to protect value. you can't generally own and use fully automatic burst weapons without special license in the US but semi-auto is open.

XD Also I imagine its a bit of both, they probably should tell the land owner of the activity even if it's not totally illegal to shoot wild hogs on their property. Considering this is in Texas and their activity is protecting farmer crop and lots of farmers are in Texas... they probably don't mind one way or the other.

To everyone that keeps saying they should use traps instead, did you see how many of them there were? How many traps would they have to set up, check everyday and reset in order to have anywhere near the same effect, and how could you guarantee those traps would only kill hogs instead of everything that has 4 legs and basically make no difference at all?

  • @cwisted5308

@@akshooter271 alot of people who use traps do it because they dont have the resources like these guys do as in shit tons of money for ammo. Another reason is because they will eat them but its more work to trap them because they end up shooting them anyway most of the time. You constantly have to be setting up traps, dumping corn into them, and monitoring the cameras when the notifications come in. Hogs are also extremely smart and know not to enter traps so it takes so long for them to actually get comfortable with coming inside the trap so it can be dropped. It's definitely effective but this is just alot easier and maintains the problem way better especially in Texas where they are in massive groups. Millions of them all over the place

One thing to keep in mind is that these things are not "Wild Boars" Sus scrofa. These animals are feral domestic hogs Sus domestica. The actual Wild Boar is only native to Europe and Northern Asia. Also in recent years the populations of Wolves and Cougars have been rebounding, these along with Bears, Alligators and even Bald Eagles which prey on piglets will slowly help to bring down the populations of feral pigs.
