** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

@@denp54z actually these hogs are not native to the United States and did not come from escaped livestock, according to my research. Explorers brought them here in the 1500s for a food source, of course not realizing what a terrible decision that was for the environment. Reminds me of the problem with Burmese pythons in Florida. It’s always dangerous to bring nonnative creatures into an ecosystem.

Im not from the US. At first i thought this was horrible, until i read that these hogs have no natural predators, proliferate like hell, and feed so much they become pests. In the context of the farmers who work hard for their land, letting these species invade and destroy what they've worked hard for is unacceptable.

My dad told me once how dangerous feral hogs were in his area. Every morning he and the other children walked together to go to school. There were no school buses available at the time. At least two parents would take turns to accompany the children. These parents carried Arisaka rifles. This was in Japan during the 1930s.

Shelters, and even restaurants will come get wild pig on the hoof. Fence trappers will wait until the trailer is there before they shoot. The issue is the short time from kill to storage temperature.

Also in recent years, a singular (group) of wild boar have tried to attack several hunters. They are more aggressive now, at least here in Italy. And the hunters always hunt in groups.
