The challenge of an event like this is that you have to plan it so far out. You can't find the perfect day to do it, when the atmospheric pressure is as low as possible. On the day, you could really have used a nice low-pressure system over Geisingen ;) I really hope that your crazy idea makes some of the other skaters try out the hour. It would be amazing to see people like: I'd love to see Bart, Sandrine, Big Gary and others try it. And obviously a tilt at the record at altitude would be cool to see as well. If they build a track like Geisingen in Bogota or Quito, it would be crazy fast.

Hello Felix. What a great performance. Big congrats. May i repeat my 2 questions about your record , that i asked in the comment section of the event report a few month ago? You wanted to get back to them when you find the time. Maybe now is my chance? :-) So these are my 2 questions: 1) Do you think, that you could've made the 40k if you'd used the "straight-line-rolling technique" from the beginning (meaning no strides before the corner) instead of in the second half or last third of the race because you did - by far - the quickest lap times with this tactic and as you would've perhaps safed more energy? 2) The hotter it is in the racing hall, the faster the track gets i learned from this report. Do you think that you would've performed better if it would have been say 3, 4 degrees cooler in the hall or would the track then have been too slow? Meaning what ist the heavier impact on the race result: heat or a bit slower track? Thanks.

Hey John, you are right - I completely forgot to give you an answer to your questions. Sorry about that! 1) I don‘t think so. The roll&run technique is effective but less efficient. I would compare it with riding out off the saddle on your bike. Because you use slightly different muscles you get a short boost but almost impossible to keep it up for long periods of time. 2) To be honest what I‘m saying is a lot of guessing. I think I was pretty close to overheating so a few degrees less might have helped. BUT the only way to bring down the temperature would have been to open up the gate and windows and create air flow. That would have slowed me down significantly! Pretty sure 0,1-0,2sec per lap slower. In terms of temperature and heat management I would do everything the same way but carry a bit more liquid. Hope this answers you questions! Have a good day!

@@FelixRijhnen1 no problem Felix. Thanks for replying. And yes you answered my questions perfectly. It's really interesting: From the outside the stride-less rolling technique looked like very much energy saving and i thought you did this as you were already tired. At the same time you did record lap times with this method though which puzzled me. So, if i understand you correctly this technique is a boost for a limited amount of laps / time and by no means suitable for the whole race...

Hi Felix, thank you so much for posting this video, i always enjoy watching them a lot! I usually dont comment but this time i have a question im dying to get an answer to. Going in a straight line on flat surface, is there a difference in speed between 125mm setup and 110mm? If there is, what is it for you? I wanted to ask you this because you are the fastest skater who truly knows how to properly generate power from each setup. Thanks so much in advance!!

Hey Andrei, thanks for those nice words! In my opinion the speed difference is about 1-1,5km/h. That’s coming from my testing I did before the hour record and also from doing max. speed sprints on straight line. Also I can hold the high Speed longer with the bigger wheels.

Wow! Thank you so much for this information Felix. This information is truly priceless! I wonder if 3x150 would offer a marginal increase in speed then as well... thank you so much again!

Not sure if you’ll see this but I’m highly interested in the same brand and skate that you wear for long distance. I can go 20-30 miles but those are on inline skates.
