    Wow! Thank you so much! I wasn’t quiet understanding the whole hard gel as a protective layer, I was getting why use the base gel (obviously) but that hard gel..I was totally against putting it on my nail itself. If you can’t soak it off it can’t be a good thing sort of attitude. 😮 no one I watched was explaining why put each layer on, just do it in this order. 🧐🤨 also, explaining what a backfill is! Thank you! I have terrible weak nails, nails that don’t grow out well on their own..I was thinking a more permanent protective layer would help with this..great video! New watcher here too! Thinkin bout stickin around….. totally going to do more watching. 😉😁

    This has nothing to do with anything we are talking about here but I’ve been like # 667 on like 10 videos within this last month and it just happened again on this one😂. On this subject I’m fairly pleased with my own nail extensions after seeing this. My minds eye was correct in my interpretation of what was happening and what to do as far as filing goes. So looking forward to the first day of class. Am turning 51 a few days later so this is my present to myself and investment in something I’ve always enjoyed. Thank you Liz. 🥹🙏

    Hi Liz I have a quick question that I have been trying to find an answer to but I am having a hard time lol. I have been practicing doing extensions on myself and I am enjoying changing out gel designs often (sometimes even weekly lol). My question is... by doing extensions that often or changing out gel polish and nail art that often is it possible to have overexposure to nail products and that significantly increase the chance for allergies to develop? For instance I put on a set of full coverage tips about a week ago and I received a thicker builder gel in the mail so I am wanting to try sculpting my nails now that I have a thicker builder gel to help address my ski jump nails. I just don't know if doing it this often is a horrible idea.

    Finally all the questions I have asked for.. THANK YOU!! 1 Question left.. do you use acetone or non acetone for soak off gel polish if you have the hard builder to keep the integrity of the hard builder gel?

  • @TheNailHub

    @TheNailHub

    Жыл бұрын

    You can use acetone. It might slightly soften the top of the hard gel depending on how long it’s on there but it won’t remove it. But the best way to deal with soak off color over hard gel is to file off just the color. Soaking tends to not flake off as easily over hard gel as it does over natural nails.

    Omgoodness, I’ve never had this explained like this not to mention I’m a visual learner❣️ Kudos to you😊 •Anything that says base coat can it be used as the adhesive coat? •Builder gel as in IBD gel, hard/soft gel as the 2nd layer? •You mentioned rubber (?)base what is that? •If the base is a 3-in-one, you’d just make it a bit thicker if you don’t use a base product then a clear gel, correct? Txs🤗❤

  • @TheNailHub

    @TheNailHub

    Жыл бұрын

    So glad it helped! In general yes, base coat usually means adhesion layer. Builder gel is usually for creating shape and structure and/or length. Rubber base is a marketing term that describes a high adhesion, soak-off base + builder. And yes for 3-in-1 products you would apply it thicker, but you also have to keep in mind if it's curing properly. I have found some of them actually don't cure well when a lot of pigment is added. That's why I usually stick to clear builder with gel color on top.

    Thank you for this. It's so easy to get your natural nails too thin! I am trying to transition from full tip set to builder gel/ poly gel as the nail grows out. I tried to soak off and file off the plastic gelly nails, but I couldn't get it all off, so rather than keep trying, I just went ahead and glued end tips on and covered the entire nail will builder gel. What's the best solution for changing from tips to builder gel? What should I have done?

  • @TheNailHub

    @TheNailHub

    Actually what you did sounds just fine. As long as there’s no lifting and you thin out the original product/tip you can reapply like you did on top.

    Hi, Liz! Love your channel! I have TERRIBLE lifting UNDER the tip from the free edge of my natural nail. I’m pretty sure my prep is good as I rarely have lifting near my cuticles. This is nearly impossible to fix without full removal and starting over. Help, please! What am I doing wrong?

  • @TheNailHub

    @TheNailHub

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Diana, do you mean the gel is lifting off your nail at the free edge? Or do you mean your natural nail is lifting? I'm assuming the former. Lifting at the free edge is super common and the main causes are usually that the gel is too thin at the free edge and/or the gel you are using is too rigid so as your free edge wiggles and bends your natural nail will be bending and flexing and the gel will not as much. Eventually the nail works itself away from the gel on top. Recommendations would be to make sure you have enough product on the free edge (should be at least the thickness of a credit card). Also try beveling your natural free edge. To do this you file under the nail at about a 45 degree angle so that as you finish file the shape you are removing more of the natural nail edge and the gel sticks out past it. Hope that makes sense. Please watch my extension and overlay videos if you haven't already as i show how to do this.

  • @TheNailHub

    @TheNailHub

    Жыл бұрын

    Soak off means it can be removed completely or “soaked off” via soaking in acetone. Usually we don’t actually soak the nails in a bowl but instead use cotton and foil wraps to apply the acetone to the product we want to remove.

    I have been doing nail overlays with builder/flex gel ever since I started watching your videos. It's really great for protecting nails and I have to say that I'm getting really good at not having to file the top layer of gel and just getting it self-level. My biggest issue is that I still get lifting so even though I backfill my overlay every two weeks I still often have quite a bit of lifting and then I have to e-file it off. And unfortunately I'm not so good at not accidentally scraping my nail with an e-file here and there.

  • @IncandescentLightbulb00

    @IncandescentLightbulb00

    Жыл бұрын

    I also wanted to add that I know that lifting by the cuticle area is usually a sign of not perfect prep and I am trying really hard when I prep to make sure that I get rid of all the cuticle, push back the skin, leave a margin, rough up the nail, dehydrate, use a protein bonder, let it fully dry... I'm so anal about this and still it's not perfect. I have one question: is it possible to put too thin of a layer of builder right by the cuticle? I've been thinking that maybe that's my problem. I'm trying to have it start nice and slim so there is no "bump" from the natural nail to the gel but maybe that's why it lifts?

    @@IncandescentLightbulb00 the brand I used is called Cake Glaze. Rubber base is more flexible and works better for thin or weak nails (which my nails are naturally). I'm not fully educated on all the "why" info, but my understanding is that with thin nails a rubber base moves and flexes with the natural nail instead of being a hard shell that lifts when the natural nail bends. I feel like I'm explaining it very badly lol. Liz could explain it so much better haha. But you can find rubber base coat from many brands. I just started using the brand I'm using now because they were having a sale and it was a product I felt like I needed to try to see if that was the key to better adhesion for my nails. I wear hard gel extensions on top btw

  • @IncandescentLightbulb00

    @IncandescentLightbulb00

    @@Nails_By_Kimberlee you explained it very well! I will see what I can find. I have two systems currently one from Young Nails and one from Modelones (this one is polygel) I wonder if any of them have a rubber base coat. I've been trying not to mix because I know that this can also cause problems. Young Nails has a builder gel and Flex gel and I've been mostly using the flex because it's more flexible. But I actually had way less lifting when I did extensions, right now I have my own long nails and overlay on top and I think it makes sense that there is still probably quite a lot of mismatch in flexibility. Although I'm putting in apex every time to add more structure. I really don't like my nails to be all bendy.
