Working from Scout in Sedona | The Mortells

With the flexibility of working from home, we decided to hit the road to trial "working from Scout" for a week. We set up camp for most of the trip in beautiful Sedona and made a quick stop at the Grand Canyon. Granger, our wirehaired pointing griffon, was joined by our cat, Walker on this trip, which was Walker's longest camping adventure yet.

    First off, I'm sorry about your long Covid issues. I hope that they resolve themselves soon. 2nd, I was kind of ambivalent over the roof top tent, but seeing you in there, in your own private space, looked really perfect when one of you is working from the road. Very nice. Thank you.

    Thanks Dave, I really appreciate it! We decided to get the rooftop tent mostly for more sleeping space when we had visitors, but we're quickly noticing that it does add quite a bit of living space up there. And it was just a really cool spot to hang out with the cat :)

    The warm weather and sunshine in Sedona had us thinking it was summer there for a minute haha. We can't wait for the warmer months either (though the past few days have been incredible in CO).

    Thanks for all of your videos. This one is great. It’s nice that Granger and Walker are with you. I can’t wait to hit the road with my new Olympic. I hope to be heading to Mount Rainier soon. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful Country. There’s nothing like being out in nature to heal the body and soul. Stay healthy.

    We're so glad you like the videos! We love having the pets with us on the road.. it brings us so much extra joy. Enjoy Mt Rainier if you make it that way. We're hoping to get up to the PNW this year too. Couldn't agree more about how lucky we are to get to experience the beautiful outdoors :) Safe travels in your Olympic!

    Great video...the voiceover was perfect. Beautiful country. All of Arizona is amazing. I survived Covid...no problem. But it left me with a nasty rash that the Doc and I are still working through. Ugh! Happy trails and safe travels.

    Take are look at the SideTrak or Mobile Pixels for your laptop. I find it's a more seemless setup and easily packs away. You may you end up liking the setup better.

    I just found your channel, I used to have a truck camper years ado and thinking about getting back in to it! How do you find your camping spots? Also I’m assuming that you’re using a drone for the aerial footage, how do you get that footage while driving down the road? I’m new to all the drone stuff.

  • @TheMortells

    @TheMortells

    Hey there! We use apps like iOverlander or Freecampsites.net to find campsites often. Yes we are using a drone for a lot of the aerial footage, typically Dani drives while I (Mike) fly the drone!

    Sorry you have the post Covid affects. I have a good friend with the same symptoms and she has sought out acupuncture and Chinese herbs. And I would've never thought it worked but I'm a nurse and I can see her level of energy improving every day.

    Just came across you guys!👍 I'm getting ready to go on the road for a couple years as I just retired. My question is what or how do you stream NetFlix or HULU while on the road? Plan or Plans and what do you use for a WiFi Router? Thanks and look forward to seeing more!😉

    Thanks for watching and congrats on retirement! We often use the download feature on Netflix to download shows and movies before hitting the road and then we watch either on a tablet or laptop. We hotspot from our phones for internet and also recently got a WeBoost. We usually try to find campsites with decent cell reception when we need to get work done and whatnot.

    Hey guys. Just caught your video. I'm looking at getting a camper and scout yoho is on the list. Question is about the Newport heater. The other ones have diesel.. then I saw yours. What size is it?? Thanks

  • @TheMortells

    @TheMortells

    4 ай бұрын

    Hey there - yes the new campers have the diesel heater option. Our Newport i believe is the P9000 model. It works great but the benefit to the diesel heater is you have a thermostat so you don't have to get up and turn on/off the heater like we have to do.

    Question for you: On that rough trail you rode did any of your stuff bounce out of the storage cubicles? I would want to install some kind of retaining system to prevent that from happening when offroading....

  • @TheMortells

    @TheMortells

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think on that trail we did have some stuff bounce around in the camper, but usually if we secure things in their baskets in the cubbies well enough, things don't bounce out of place too bad. (And sorry for the late response!)

    Have questions about the RTT. How can I open and close on my own WITHOUT crawling on the roof? At 59, don't want to be crawling up there and risk a fall. I did open today on my own BUT closing was a challenge and my neighbor crawled up top. I did have water under the mattress due to driving rains in ORs last week. Good thing mattress still in plastic! What do you cover the mattress and crawl space hole with?

  • @TheMortells

    @TheMortells

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Mary! We stand on the tailgate and use a board or some sort of pole to push open the roof top tent. To close it, typically one of us will pull down the RTT and the other pull the tent fabric in to make sure it closes correctly. We haven't had any issues with water getting into the tent but we have had some dust. The important thing is to make sure the fabric isn't sticking out of the tent at all when it is closed.

    We've put it to the test quite a few times! And apart from loose items in the camper ending up all over the place, the camper really has held up well.

    What camera do you use for your video? It looks really good. I was guessing one of the newer Canon mirrorless or the Sony a7siii.

  • @TheMortells

    Good guesses! We both have Sony mirrorless cameras, but the one we use most for filming is the Sony a7iii. We also use a DJI Osmo Action camera and we just got a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 which we haven't really used yet, but are excited to start filming with.

    Have your blood tested and make sure your hemoglobin is back to normal. I struggled with having enough energy and catching my breath after Covid. If you don't have enough red blood cells, then your body cannot produced the proper oxygen levels. Red cells contain a special protein called hemoglobin, which helps carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and then returns carbon dioxide from the body to the lungs so it can be exhaled. You maybe low on iron or have anemia. My naturopath gave me the supplements to bring me back to normal and now I have energy to spare.
