Glad you liked the video! We're taking this ski season off, but our plan is to store our snowboards next to the camper in our truck bed - there's a good bit of space there on both sides. If you don't get the gear box slide out add on, you might be able to store skis in that space. With the new Scout rooftop tents, you can mount ski racks on top of the RTT. Check out the @unpluggedfamily on Instagram - they're planning on doing this.

  • @TheMortells

The diesel heater wasn't an option when we got our camper. It would be a tough choice between the two. While we love the ambiance that the newport fire place puts off, we would love the have a thermostat controlled heater so we can turn it on to a temp and forget about it.

We just bought a count Yoho. We going to extend the sleeping area so we're lying lengthwise rather than having to crawl over one another if we have to get ups. Also, good tip on the floor being cold. Why not put down an industrial carpet that insulates?

It can get chillier up there, but it's not a problem with a decent sleeping bag. We've camped at 12,000 ft and the only issues we've had with the newport is during really high winds it sometimes blows out the flame.

Hi Mortells - thanks for sharing. Looks like you're enjoying the Scout - I am taking delivery of an Olympic model in February, so I really appreciate hearing about your experiences and tips. I used to live in Colorado (northern Nevada now) and recognize some of the places in your videos, e.g. Twin Lakes area - likely will spend some time in CO in the near future. We are a different age group, but I would say we are kindred spirits and I also plan on using the Scout for winter ski trips, plus hunting, fishing and camping anytime of the year - although I tend to backpack into wilderness areas for a lot of my outdoor trips, especially when hunting big game. Good job on the video and please keep it up! PS - I always keep some wood matches and an extra butane lighter around when camping (not to mention a ferro rod in my backpack survival kit). In really cold weather, the butane lighter may need to heat up in your pocket to function properly, but matches work at any temp. Those BBQ lighters are kinda useless. -Richard

Just ordered a Scout Olympic and enjoy watching your vids. I am curious if you have concerns about getting locked in your camper if someone were to shut the tailgate while you are inside? Probably not an issue out in the boonies, but I am sure there are/will be times where you have more of a campground crowd. I can see some wiseacre teenager shutting the tailgate. Cheers,

Glad you enjoy the videos! This is something that definitely crossed our minds. Our tailgate doesn't actually close (we have it resting against the rigd supply tire swing), and there are also a couple alternative exits if needed through an exit window and the roof top tent (with ladder).

Thanks for the tip, so far we haven't felt like the condensation is a big enough issue for us to warrant getting a dehumidifier since we are trying to save space. That is a great tip for others that might be in more humid environments or have additional people sleeping in the camper.

Hi Mortells 👋 I'm also in Colorado (Longmont) and am trying to decide between a Yoho and an Olympic. Did you look at both models? My gut tells me that the Yoho would be too small, but I really like the idea of a camper on a Tacoma.

Hey Emilie! When we put down our deposit the Olympic was the only option from Scout so it made the decision pretty easy :) We did get to see a Yoho when we picked up our Olympic and we were surprised how spacious it looked, I think having the side dinette made it feel more open than the Olympic.

@@emiliehester Emille, sorry for my incoherent grammar from last night. We don't have the Yoho yet, but there is plenty of room to extend a platform out. Since the Yoha table is located on the right side of the camper this will be doable by adding a platform, the seating area cushions, and a nice down top cover. It just doesn't make sense to have the sleeping area configured where one of you has to crawl over someone else. I should mention that we looked at the Scout Olympic and it seemed more crowded than the Yoho.
