Sitting in my warm living room in NH with noplace I have to go, I love watching these! Interesting that some cars have such a terrible time while others glide through with nary a slip. I guess the differences are the car, the tires and the skill of the driver. Some got it, some don't. And where you live, you need to be prepared with all three.

I've noticed a huge difference between some brands of all seasons compared to other all seasons in the snow. Tires make a HUGE difference, the factory all seasons tires on my car were so bad that I got stuck in a *plowed* parking lot one day. What a nightmare that was

There is a huge difference in the cars on automatic gear too. A lot of people (an alarmingly huge part of them) don't realise that the worst thing you can do is let wheels go at high speeds, thinking that this will solve the situation. I will only make it worse as it creates pure black ice in an instant. You need to go at barely letting your wheels move. Yeah. It will take extra time and you will still have to move back and forth a number of times. But it works. This is why a manual standard H gear is the best because you can control how fast the wheels spin to a much greater extent. Same as going cross country and offroad in rain and so on. Ever wondered why hummers in the military, trucks and semi's that are supposed to go of the beaten road is never an automatic? That's why. Oh. And a little editing. Once your vehicle starts to move and you can feel the wheels not skidding, you keep that speed VERY meticulously. You do NOT try to increase speed or even decrease it. You keep it until you run out of the trouble zone or you get caught by something that will cause another skid of the wheels. And you steer just as cautiously. Minimal changes in direction only. If you just want to straighten the car out, don't turn the steering wheels more than a few degrees. 5 at the max unless there is an obstacle. Tuning them further than that is a sure recipe for skidding again.Once all this is said and done, you of course need to go practise driving somewhere safe and out of harms way. You don't become a master at it by just knowing that is how you do it. Truckers here in Denmark go on a week long training every year in some companies, just to practise it. And they are the ones you never see getting stuck or sliding out of control to block a whole freeway or interstate.

@@Jens-Viper-Nobel True. Practically all cars have automatic transmissions now, though a manual gives you greater control of what your drive wheels are doing. A spinning tire has no grip at all, though I think some people are trying to burn their way down to pavement! If a wheel loses traction, letting up slightly on the gas might allow it to regain a grip on the road, and then you just keep that speed. A slippery road will only permit very slight acceleration, stopping or turning. I've driven on NH roads in winter for many, many years, so I've had lots of experience!

I'm from Indiana so I'm no stranger to winter driving, especially when we get hit with lake effect snow storms. But my fiancée is from Framingham and I lived out there for a year. Damn those mass roads will teach you REAL winter driving lol. I love watching your videos, Dizzy. Thanks for the content!

In these dangerous conditions all vehicle movements must be banned by law as this is total anachy as all they are doing is destroying their tyres making an extreme noise nuisance & all of them are dangerously out of control.The only safe option during the evil iceshit is a total driving prohibition enforced by law.

Almost any auto part store or wally world sells chains. If I lived in a neighborhood with crazy weather on a hill like that, I'd have a set in every car I own, but I know common sense isn't inherited, it's learned......😅 On the flip side, I used to use chains on a POS car I once owned, it was horrible in winter, so every year I had to chain up like thousands of times, every time we had a storm. It got old, fast! In just a few years I got rid of it like a hot potato and bought a 4 wheel drive pickup, it was soooo much better and no more chainups, except when we had significant snowfall....

Once I lived in a town with many hills. In the winter everyone knew to use 'mayor's hill'. He lived there so it was always salted and taken care of first and foremost. Watching out window for you is better than TV.

@@dv1267 The irony is that they are costing themselves more money than just buying some proper winter tires to begin with. They are burning the tread right off of their tires and will need to buy new ones anyways. Plus they are aren't doing the rest of the vehicle any favors.

7.20. I don't like automatic transmissiion in snow and ice. When you have a manual gearbox and yr wheels are slipping in first gear you can put it right away in 2nd gear and feel the "momentum" on which you have grip. So you can easily carry on your trip.

The key to driving slick roads is second gear . Less power to the wheels going up hill less slippage and down hill holds car back just enough.

I remember in NH I saw them spreading something like salt but it was very muddy looking. I'm not sure what the deal is here, maybe the temp is too low for salt to be effective or the city just said screw it let the people figure it out...but wow at least get some grit down on those ice rinks.

I don't know how you you all put up with that, I would be prepared with about 100 bags of sand or road bace and a sceed spreader if I lived on road like that I would definitely be out there throwing sand on that little section of road then have the city billed and have them reimburse me for my time and trouble at 26.00 an hr pluse the product .
