Had a freaky thing happen to me today. I was sitting on a beach on the east coast of England, and me and my family spotted some big clouds out to sea and what looked like rain coming from them. We initially thought they were travelling a different way and not towards us, but then I started noticing the cloud getting bigger, as if it was getting closer, which it turned out it was. We also noticed some thunder and lightning coming from the clouds. Now instead of being smart and leaving before the rain hits, we decided to stay and watch the storm roll in. As it got closer, the smell of the sea got much more powerful. Suddenly, A huge wind picked up heading directly inshore, and as it went it picked up loads of sand from the beach and started pelting it against everyone on the beach to the point where it actually hurt. Needless to say we and most over occupants of the beach got out of there in a hurry.

They kept saying: "ai, aii, aiiii" lol. Also the wind was pretty strong I don't think the insects had the choice of stinging, if they accidentally ended on someone's skin maybe, but the humans driving bikes around were probably the least of their concerns - to anthropomorphize a bit

  • @HabitsOftheWolf

    Ай бұрын

That happened to me once on a little island that we rowed to. When we realized that one of the branches must have had a nest on it that we hit we ran as fast as we could, but then we got to the edge of the island and they were still following and stinging us, so we had to turn around and run right back down the path and through the nest again to get to the boat, and row away. We had quite a few stings for sure. The worst one for me was one of the wasps had gotten stuck in my shirt and was constantly stinging me in the same spot while I was running, which I didn't even realize until I got back to the cottage and people pulled it out. Adrenaline I guess lol.

During a hailstorm several years ago, I saw a hailstone (somewhat larger than a golf ball) break a hole in one of our windows, after which about 5 seconds later, another hailstone following the same trajectory as the first, went exactly through the hole made by the first one. Oh! That shove ice coming over the breakwall happened here. I am pretty sure that is Fort Erie Ontario with Buffalo NY in the background. The water at the eastern end of the lake often gets pushed up with the wind causing flooding on the paths, but in the winter, the ice breaks up and gets shoved up and over. It's quite destructive!

Yep - I was watching that and saying “Gotta be Lake Erie!” Also the drone footage of the houses covered in layers of brown ice… pretty sure that was also Lake Erie. Buffalo (et al) gets a crazy amount of sustained wind because there is nothing but open water for hundreds of miles! I live in w PA and often have to drive in N Ohio - crazy wind and lake effect snow up there but nothing like at the Lake Erie’s far east end, the greater Buffalo area.
