Wow, this video is absolutely fascinating! The art of making a Japanese kaiken knife from WOOTZ steel derived from staples is truly impressive. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident throughout the entire process. I never would have imagined that such a beautiful and functional knife could be created from seemingly ordinary materials. The combination of forging skills and creative ingenuity showcased in this video is truly commendable. Thank you for sharing this unique and captivating knife-making journey with us. I can't wait to try making my own kaiken knife someday

Great work from my favorite metallurgist knifemaker on KZread. When you were bending the steel staples over to make the blend I wonder if you could incorporate small steel ball bearings INSIDE all staple as you fold it over. Like a pre taco. I like this design as a knife. I would use it although pricey

It never ceases to amaze me how little that ingot moves under the hammer. I am familiar with the process, but what kind of hrc is that metal before during and after the forging?

There was a duel edged dagger that i seen some years back that had an interesting grind. It was a spear point shape but only the left side of the blade was sharpened. If you flipped it over you'd expect the right side would be sharpened, but you'd be wrong. No matter what side of the blade was in your hand, the left side would be the cutting edge... Made for an interesting point

Have you considered making a wootz damascus longsword? I've looked around for a while, and I haven't found any examples yet, so they seem to be uncommon. You could easily be one of the first to have made one in a while.

Another amazing creation!! Your skill are outstanding. A few questions: Are you using coal to as a heat course? How hot do you get the wootz when forging to keep it from cracking during the forging process?
