a real trash to treasure story with this little project. was extremely hard and would blunt the hss tools really quickly so had to attack it with the carbide tools which made quick work of it.finished it off with aces polish paste and abrasive paste.

I got hold of one of these garden bowls, I was told if they're wood they're lignum vitea, if not they're bakelite.might have a go at mine now. Nice work anyway mate.

I always thought they were made up of composite and laminated materials, maybe some are, might depend on who makes them and what weight they need to be. Interesting piece Guil, I was wondering how many times you had to sharpen tools, it looks pretty hard.

Lignum vitae. Dense, dense stuff.
I don't believe this bowl is lignum vitae. If you pause the video at 1:00 you can make out the "Henselite" brand, therefore it is made of a plastic compound. Still a beautiful piece of work, though.
