A shallow bowl/platter.This was an idea i had in mind for a while. The course of the design changed slightly troughout the process. I'm planning to create different designs with the same concept/idea. I'm very satisfied with the result, and hope you all enjoy the video!. This was one of the biggest projects so far, and i feel like i am dreaming having reached almost 50.000 subscribers!!. I am incredibly thankfull for all of your support! :). Wood used is Wenge for the frame, Maple for all the light parts and details, and (red) Padauk for the interior of the bowl and the lines in the center. diluted Tungoil ( turpentine) as a finish

Only an old and very experimented spider could maybe try to compete with the masterpiece you offered us. Thank you Thomas.

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection kzread.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I would like to thank you all for the great comments! They really do lift me up. Since quite a few people mention the lines, i thought i need to elaborate a little on that. I never intended to make a perfect geometrical shaped bowl with this piece. It is more of a natural inspired piece, then a perfect geometrical one. I work without plans, just a general idea and listen more to what feels right. Idea's change, and often go into others directions this way. And sometimes you stumble upon obstacles this way. At the time i was making the centerpiece, i was planning on making as many spokes as there are lines. But then realised the spokes would be to close together ( at the center), for the thickness i wanted them to be. To me, the center has it's own character. And i feel it is still in touch/balance with the rest of the bowl. Not perfectly distanted or alligned with the spokes, but that's what gives the center it's own character, tells it's own story (for me atleast). The Uneven lines never bothered me during the process. The spaces in between the spokes differ in distance aswell, especially on the outside, where it adds up. But I am very pleased with the piece overall, also with the center.

Outstanding work and dedication to creating your vision! As for the spoke lines on the center piece, from one designer to another, I would say this - the bowl as a whole is exceedingly geometric. That suggests to the viewer that the spoke lines in the center piece should be/were meant to be precisely geometric. They don't depart from the overall geometry enough to read as intentionally non-geometric. Design decisions that seem to hover in between one decisive intention and another tend to be interpreted as mistakes, even if they weren't. This is not meant as an attack. Please keep creating wonderful objects, because you clearly already are!

Thomas Anton Guerts, I loved this video down to the music selection! Sounds silly, but I was feeling a bit anxious about stuff I've been dealing with and I usually like to watch Wood Turning videos as well as glass blowing videos etc when I'm stressed out as they seem to relax me. I was going to switch the video when I realized you weren't going to explain the process verbally while creating this piece, but I stuck with it and the pay off was fantastic. I actually feel that any talking over the video would have taken away from the experience. Congrats on your creation of this beautiful art piece man. Thanks for sharing :)
AMAZING THOMAS ... I HAVE SEEN HIS FANTASTIC WORKS ... IT'S LIKE TO SEE A 3D MANDALA ... AWESOME, I'VE ALREADY KNEW MANY CHINESE WORKS, BUT HIS TECHNIQUE HAS AN UNIQUE END ... CONGRATULATIONS !!!
I love that you use wenge and padauk, they're some of my favorites and they compliment each other so well. With the maple everything just pops, it's stunning!
Outstanding craftsmanship!
Sometimes, the imperfections is the art, doing think by following heart and instinct, the outcomes is planned. But the satisfactions building it, are the ones that satisfy some people. My mom used to say that to us ☺️
Thomas, you are a rare talent. You have a great mind for mathematics. You have great hands for creating what your mind envisions. You calm me, and your work amazes me. Bless you for what you inspire in us all.
WOW just a great piece of art. And who said that High School Geometry would never be needed, except here is proof that Geometry is very much needed.
Не первый его ролик смотрю . Мужик не ищет легких путей . Приятно смотреть . Идея, исполнение, чистота, методичность ... Мне бы его спокойствие и чувство прекрасного ! Браво !!!
Art in every way... thank you.
Thomas, I have watched your turning in several of your videos and to date I have seen nothing but beauty in your craft. You produce nothing but museum quality pieces. The Atrium bowl is striking and so elegant in concept. I cannot say how much your work intrigues me.

I have very little expertise in wood turning but I remember standing beside my grandfather by the hour watching him turn spindles, bowls, table legs, etc., I was instructed by him in turning the scarf tie holder for my Boy Scouts uniform after weeks on instruction. I made this out of mazanita wood and it took 5-6 limbs to finally get one that was to his satisfaction. Manzanita is a wood that is very slow growing and consequently very dense and if you aren't careful with your gouges you end up burning them. it's a beautiful dark red and sometimes light blond in color and only found in the North Coastal mountains of California and in the western slopes of the Sierra's. That was enough to whet my desire to turn wood and it has been fun but I no longer do it because I am now involved with making jewelery with my wife of almost 40 years. That shows you how old I am (73). I now watch the youtube for wood turning instead. Keep up your fabulous work.
Marvellous it's like going on a journey through someone's mind not knowing what is coming next and just accepting that what happens is meant to be. Beautiful !!!

Very cool!
Thomas, your geometric art has such an arachnid look to it... I love it.
This is neither a bowl nor a platter. It is a wonderful work of Art.

My friend, watching you work and listening to the music you choose to narrate your videos with makes me feel really peaceful. And your creations are truly beautiful.
I admire your meticulousness, your patience and perfectionism, as well as your way of thinking, different from others. Your works have a certain "suspense" because the idea is not seen until the end, in such a way that it interests and fascinates. And the result is amazing. Congratulations Thomas.
this is amazing. it must of taken you ages. nice work of art. All the best

An amazing bowl, but I can't believe you went to so much trouble to join all those pieces of wood with precision, but left the middle like that. Perhaps it's me wanting everything perfect? Incredible piece of work though.

Thank you!. It's not a very precise piece, regarding that all the spaces in between the trusses differ in distance. The lines never disturbed me , until people brought it up here.

The middle is terrible . Actually it’s a lot of bitty pieces

The middle does detract from the overall piece, in my opinion. To the naked eye, everything is perfectly segmented and even, except the middle.
This is an awesome bowl I have never seen anything so special and perfect before.
Credit where it's due, that's one impressive piece of woodturning art.
Beautiful piece.
I was transfixed by the attention to detail and your craftsmanship. The piece is a thing of beauty. I also like your choice of music.
You are a patient man , calm , work hard and ...very smart person , the amazing piece of art I have seen .
Masterpiece!

What an incredible labor of love!
Fantastique !!! Thank you...
Wow. I have never seen such precise, creative, stunning, and gorgeous pieces like this ever. Just found your channel and so happy I did. Beautiful
I watched this video and was absolutely mesmerized. The details, the intricacy, the design itself showcases some of the BEST wood working skills I've ever seen. I've also read the comments regarding the center piece and am surprised that they are regarding it, as one commentator stated, as distracting. Well, I'd say this to them... what you think is a distraction, I think is a character trait. I personally don't understand how some people see this piece and think "flaw". There's a simple solution.....do one yourself without the "distraction". Y'all have a nice day. 😎
Wow, just beautiful. And hypnotic to watch. Thank you.
Throughout the video, and to the very end I hoped that the master still Stoch terrible crooked furrows cut in the central part, or even paint it. It's just a nightmare !!! As for the rest - I bow the knee, it's amazing!
So beautiful.
I'm amazingly fascinated.
Fantastic video enthralled by your skill and attention to detail.
I really love all your works..
A beautiful piece of art ! It must have been a bit scary putting it on the lathe after all the work preparing it. All the best, Jim.
