Woodturning - The 'Continental' Vessel
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
My etsy www.etsy.com/shop/TAGwoodwork...
The vessel has been sold. For interest in this particular design: info@tagwoodworking.com
This project was made possible, thanks to the 2 species of wood supplied in an exchange project between 3 woodworkers in Portland Oregon, U.S and 3 woodworkers in Utrecht The Netherlands. utrecht-portland.com/ The idea for all involved was to make an object with slabs of 2 species. Oregonian Myrtle wood and local harvested Maple combined. The largest part of inspiration comes from the native tribes in Oregon, and by looking at some old symbols the tribes use(d).
The name 'continental' was inspired by the project itself, and the lines and colors in the wood used.Which i found looking like a map.
The stopper was inspired by where the maple came from, a tree on a childrens playground in Utrecht. It also resembles the merging of the 2 species for me. The Process - this wasMy more a project that evolved slowly, as i went along. The basic idea i had was to make something tribal. I really enjoy this type of process, letting your thoughts and choices at each particular stage decide the final outcome. Without forcing yourself to stick to pre-made drawings/designs.

Just WOW... What a beautiful piece, made by a skilled craftsman. Thank you for bringing me along for the process.
After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans kzread.infoUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!
Chi ti ha ispirato questo lavoro è sicuramente una divinità. congratulazioni
This is not just woodturning! It is also highly skillful sculpting with a lot of imagination.
Well congratulations, what an extraordinary piece of art. It's great to see your attention to detail and commitment to the project.
Watching this Zen-like progress, calm and graceful, it was like watching water flow, not knowing where each droplet will land, wanting to anticipate, then after yielding to not knowing, understanding that at that moment it could not have been any other way. Thank you for sharing this exquisite process with the public, with me. You choose to express the gift you have and when artists do that, the world is a better place.
The craftsmanship and beauty take my breath away.
This was mesmerizing. I watched it from the beginning to the end with no pause or timeline click. Thank you for sharing.
It is so refreshing to see such a young one doing this type of work, and at this skill level. Best wishes to you.

Wonderful work. Could you enlighten us as to its meaning and shape? I would also like to know about your choices of wood. Thank you!
The phrase “A labor of love’” came to mind while watching you make your beautiful vessel👍🏼 I really enjoyed the video! Thank you😀
i love the top piece . didnt expect it to come out how it did when the drilling started . he pushed that little piece of wood to its limit . reminded me of something that would have been in king Solomon's temple .

Anton I am not Dutch but my husband is from the Netherlands he is 78 and I am from South Africa and Afrikaans speaking and I am 72. I enjoy every minute of every woodturning video I watch. Why don't you talk in your videos I love it when they explain what and why they do. You have a very calming way of working I love it.
Just found your channel and if this is what you could do four years ago I can not imagine what else you have learned to do. You truly are amazing at your chosen craft.
Hi everyone, Still can't believe the amount of views and positivity this project received in such a short amount of time, While i had a good feeling about this project during the creation and while editing, I did not see this coming, at all. :). I decided to answer a couple questions that are mentioned in the comments quite frequently below. - What is the use of the Vessel : It's mainly ment as an art piece. Use has no meaning to me whatsoever, with these sort of pieces.I hope to simply and hopefully inspire you when looking at it. To bring something of yourself into the home of whoever may hold it close to their heart and cherish it, and enrich their life in any way, is the best use i can wish for. - My T-shirts: The brand is called Wituka www.wituka.com/ i'm not sponsored. Free advertisement for Wituka :) Finish used: - I used just one coat of slight diluted (turpentine) with Danish oil. I'm very satisfied and was suprised with how well it came out. Even for just 1 coat, but it gave me the finish i was looking for. Not too glossy, but yet also not an uneven finish or unfinished look. The liquid: Is called CA Glue, it's basically super glue. I used it to fuse the fragile veneer x's together, and give them sort of a finished look at the same time. I also used it when working on the crown, while working on it. I wanted to add some strength since it was a fragile piece.

People are so desperate to find something positive in the face of the destruction of the Western civilization (Trump, despotism, terrorism, environmental destruction, global warming, and migration), that anything soothing like this video is a delight to the senses and a respite from the horror of all the bad news we experience every day.

the project looks great! but you need to learn your tools. you've wasted so many hours on basic tasks like cutting straight blanks instead of using your band saw for contours. You should have set your table saw for the blanks width and then clamped them together somehow for the contour. That would have saved you at least a days work. Your glue methods are dumb for a lack of better words, just coat the outside of the in coming piece, it'll save you money on brushes and glue. If you'll listen to people that have done it before, you'll learn something.
This project took a while to complete, Hope you enjoy it! :) edit: Just wanted to let people know, who left a wonderful, incredible comment or liked the video how much i appreciate you, it means alot to me. And everyone who watched it for that matter. This definitely motivates me to do these larger projects more often. I am blown away by how well it is received!, And still a little in shock to be honest. This project also feels as another stepping stone towards my absolute dream goal, which is having my own shop one day. Surrounded by nature :). 17/07/19 An update on the own shop dream. I have moved to a private space (600sqft/56m2 in April this year. It took a few months to set everything up, it's now nearly completed. I Didn't record much of that, but from what i have, trying to create a video that's worthy of watching :).

Remarkable. Nicely done sir. I wish my mother was alive she would have binge watched this with me. She never had the internet, we take so much for granted today. Keep up your passion.
This clip has been in my recommendations for months, huge fan of the likes of Al 'Grandmaster Rebel' Furtado, Nick Zameti, Chris Salomone, Modustrial Maker and Pohl Barn etc, so not surprising it's there, but I kept putting off watching it for some reason. Until tonight. Watched it start to finish - think I forgot to breath during some parts - and all I can say is wow.
While I will say that is the greatest show of patience and imagination I've ever seen, It is also one of the strangest turnings I've ever seen as well.
I’ve never in my life seen anything like this! Very, very, very impressive!!
Absolutely amazing! The details, the patience, the time. It's really hard to rap the mind around it. Had I not watched it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Mad crazy skills and just a beautiful piece! Congrats young man.

I feel honored to see this craftsmanship. The insight that you allowed the piece to develop makes this even more remarkable. And perhaps the intrinsic movement of the idea is the gift. Thank you.

Just the tools themselves I can hear the sharpness as it cuts through the wood, and the finished part outstanding, you are a craftsman and you make that wood come to life, congratulations
That was the most intricate and meticulous piece of turned art I’ve seen. Absolutely gorgeous TAG
With no compunction, I would have given this to my fiance instead of a diamond ring and if she scoffed at the gesture, I would have wished her the best in life and bidden her farewell. I've never watched a wood turning project of this length without skipping forward or with my full attention. There were even times I was holding my breath, though I knew it turned out ok from the start. Your attention to detail, your planning, your love of numbers, your patience, your understanding of your craft is all joined together just like your choice of woods. And if you filmed this yourself, chose the music and edited it all together...I'd have to write 12 more paragraphs. Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you become astronomically famous and wealthy beyond your wildest dreams. But somehow, I know that is not your goal. You do it because you love to do it and that makes watching it all the more amazing and humbling. Thanks again. GG.

Your decaton to detail is incredible! I love what you were able to add to the beauty of this pice of wood. It's because you love doing woodwork's with your life that you're able to take the patients and add so much in different transitions. I'am a workworker too.
