Woodturning - 3D Patterned Plywood!
Ойын-сауық
Welcome to this weeks woodturning video:
Woodturning - Patterned Ply In 3D !
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a blank made with mahogany and plywood into a patterned ply vase. I feel this woodturning video falls into the ASMR and entertainment categories.
If you find these video’s a good source of entertainment, I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.

Beautiful! I love the fact that you kept the edge of the patterned plywood, rather than levelling everything off.

you should see the steps behind a Celtic knot, it just looks like intersecting x's with straight lines over the top before it is turned and the rounded pattern is revealed.
Watching this video was like being a kid again and trying not to tear into a Christmas present, but to slowly imagine what could be inside, peeling back the layers, and finally seeing that what was inside was better than anything I could have imagined, and knowing that I it was something I had always wanted. Thank you! That was wonderful!!!
A larger, rainbow ply would be mind blowing. This was so rad to watch!
I have seen this video several times now, and every time I am so impressed by the precision you execute, how the pieces fit together perfectly. That is a kind of beauty in itself, apart from the end result, which also is beautiful.

@@JackMackWoodturning Yes, please, and I watch all of your videos.
It’s beautiful! You’ve won my subscription. I sense a missed opportunity though: the pattern you made is an extrusion of a 2D pattern into 3 dimensions, resulting in the final form being bilaterally symmetrical. If you instead constructed a tessellating 3D pattern, you would create a beautiful, elaborate radially symmetrical design. The result is beautiful regardless.
@JackMackWoodturning
Жыл бұрын
Kyle… I can’t wait to watch you construct this blank in a radial pattern.. you must be an absolute wizard at cutting compound angles on the table saw.. and I’d love to see you glue up techniques too.. send me a link to your channel.. Thanks for this kind words buddy.. I personally like the effects created by the side of the extruded 2D pattern as it rounds the edge of the piece. 👍🏻

I really like this piece a lot. My favorite wood designs are ones with highly contrasted grains or wood tones, and this one knocks it out of the park. What makes it even better is the top edge combining smooth and sharp lines; it softened the piece and makes it more interesting to look at. Well done!!

@@JackMackWoodturning I once started to get into wood working, trying to find my niche, but then my health took a turn for the worse and some days 2 screws is the max I can take, but I am finally in a spot where I can start a hobby again. For now, I sorta took over a porcelain pouring business (dolls, dishes, ornaments) as the person who used to do it got too old, but I am hoping one day to find a way to get back into wood working (even if it is hand carving) and make my own molds to sell.

Have you ever thought of turning a guitar blank? Huge shallow elipse in profile then cut the guitar shape from it. Mix that with your geometric madness and I think you'd have a very valuable guitar on your hands? I am planning to make one but just out of birch play end grain as that dick Putin has made my bin of offcuts very valuable!!! Definitely a beautiful work of art, WOW! 👍👌Thanx for sharing!
Nice. :) I love when creators use the plies as a feature instead of hiding them. I have made 2 table tops so far, where I have used staves of plywood glued together, so the plies are visible from the top, bottom and ends. The real challenge is getting 2 staves with perfect sides from one end to another to use for the sides of the table top. I coated the first one for my assembly table with water based floor laquer, but it has virtually no resistance to water, so the second one I made recently gets a couple of coats of ship laquer.
