Wood Carved Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Walking Stick #53

CARVED WESTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE WALKING STICK
Summer marks the beginning of huckleberry season, so in between carving my latest walking stick, I've enjoyed picking a few berries! This rattlesnake walking stick was carved entirely from one piece of Lodgepole Pine.

    You always just get a kick out of both watching something being made as well as being made by hand. It makes you feel like you're right there with them as they're making it. My Paw-paw is a carpenter. Well he dabbles in it from time to time, making staffs and stuff. Made his own kiddy train for us out of wood and a lawn mower. It's now a little community job for him aside from working at the Good Shepherd Ranch.

    Magnificent masterpiece! I am awestruck by your amazing piece of sculpture. The details are so intricate, so realistic that it will be hard to tell this cane apart from a real rattlesnake, especially if it is near a rock or a tree. I have an India-made sculpted cobra. It is nice, but it cannot hold a candle to your stunning sculpture. Your talent is is really genius level. Congratulations!

    Hi Mike, Nice work! Have you ever worked with Curly Willow? I have some large pieces for you if you know how to saturate it with resin to strengthen it. Otherwise, I fear it is too soft. Am I right? I only heard this possible.

    I have a few pieces of curly willow, but I haven't made anything out of them, yet. They do seem kind of soft. I'll have to do some experimenting with it. Thank you for the offer and thanks for watching!

    Question: When you burn in the scales, how do you make the scale color look graduated?

  • @StinnettSticks

    @StinnettSticks

    8 жыл бұрын

    The color is achieved by applying more pressure with the point of the burning tip to the areas that I want to be darker.

    Hello again sir I have a quiestion if I use green wood for a walking stick how do I prevent it from cracking?

  • @StinnettSticks

    @StinnettSticks

    8 жыл бұрын

    I suggest curing the wood first to prevent cracking. Seal the ends of the wood with wax or glue, and then place it in a moderate temperatured place standing upright in the same direction it was growing. Leave it for a few months and then begin carving.
