    Looks like Mum and her grown ups... Seeing the way they behave they must have been socialised with humans, they probably were left behind... But looks like they found the right person! My strays wouldn't come near the food when people were around (except for one kitten out of 18), including me for quite some time, although they were used to seeing me...

    Aww you're doing a good thing thank you! And your management may actually be acting counterproductive. More stray cats leads to more mice caught it's inevitable. They should welcome them actually. At a minimum they won't do any harm.

    @@christinejones1772 oh I'm sorry to hear that. I can't think of any good reason for that rule unless they just hate wildlife. I live in an apartment complex and sometimes I'll put out some flat bowls of bird seed or bird feeder up. As long as our feeders are within our patio area the management doesn't mind. We have some nice trees and a nice local bird population here. You may wish to challenge that rule with them. Ask them what the rationale is. As far as cats, if you put it within your private patio area they really can't say anything. Well technically they can always make a stink as they're the management if they really want to, but if you have a first floor patio and put up a cat bed or some cat food out they can't prove it's for a stray. I would ask them why they have those two prohibitions and ask them if they would consider removing them. I'm curious what their concerns are. I honestly can't see the big problem with feeding stray cats at your own expense or putting up a bird feeders. If they're worried that stray cats have disease well most strays are not going to go up to most people. Most strays stay their distance from people they don't know well. I've never seen a stray cat attack anyone. And as for the birds there's nothing there to worry about. More birds simply makes a property more pleasant and delightful; there's no downside.

    @@samanthahowse570 There's an old Hebrew saying that, dependent upon translation, reads "he whom saves one life, saves the world entire." Now, obviously, that isn't literal. But saving that person's/animal's life can be said to equate to saving _their_ world ... I once knew an old German woman, of Jewish decent, that somehow managed to escape to England, just prior to the beginnings of The Holocaust, but not without losing a significant portion of her family. Yet, despite that, she was gracious, humble, and without a shred of rancour. Her level of magnanimity was such, that I strongly got the impression that she did blame her fellow Germans, per-se, for what happened, but rather saw her birth nation, being led by a mad man straight into the abyss. Even now, decades later, in both Germany, and Poland - where most of the death camps were - scars run deep ... Forgive the dark tone of this reply, but one has to imagine if that amazing woman didn't open her heart to those five cats, given that feral/stray cats have a way lower lifespan than your average housecat, who knows what may have become of them ... she did save their worlds, entire ...

    Before Covid I worked at a Cat Shelter and you wouldn’t believe how many cats we got in because a tenant or home owner moved out and just left their cat or cats behind. It’s heart breaking. When I was little we adopted a cat that was left behind by her previous owners. She was locked in the apartment for almost 2 weeks. She apparently lived off of cockroaches and toilet water. Poor girl. She was less than a year old when she was found and given to the shelter, then we adopted her. Her whole life if she saw us putting things in boxes she would start panicking, running around the house frantically, panting, etc. We all felt so bad for her. We moved a lot for dad’s job, so we started packing her stuff first, very obviously, and in the middle of the living room. That calmed her down a LOT. It reassured her that she was coming too.

    Same! One rainy day, this tiny orange thing cried out, hungry and wet. Couldn't have been more than 3 months old. I picked him up, dried him off, introduced him to the feral shelter we have on our porch (cardboard box stuffed with old towels), and set out food next to the water bowl. 30 minutes later when I went inside, he waltzed right on in right behind me. I tried to put him back outside due to him needing to be vaxxed and snipped. That lasted all of three months. This arctic blast hit us here in SE Texas and my husband didn't want to risk the kitten freezing in sub-30 temperatures. He is now Bond...James Bond...and is every bit as sweet, clever, and charming as his namesake.

    So cool! My cousin did something similar. A mother cat disappeared, leaving all five kittens in my cousin's backyard. She turned her patio and yard into 'kitty city', with a little cat house for each of them, water and food, and heated warmers in winter. She got them all spayed at a few months old and they lived in her yard, never even trying to leave. That was 18 years ago. There is just 'the old man' left - last of the litter, but they all had a great life. 'The old man' decided he finally wanted to come inside and is living his best last few years by the fireplace on a soft rug.

    What do you mean by 'tipped'? Do they tipp off one of the ears?

  • @jeffbebe5085

    @jeffbebe5085

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ninajansson5826 Yes. Not the whole ear just the top. The cat feels nothing, no pain. Tipped means they were fixed in the vet and re released to the original spot they were trapped. They tip the ear of those that are TVNR'd. So they are vaccinated and fixed. Now if an animal control sees them they know yo leave them alone.

    @@ninajansson5826 yes, they remove the very tip or clip a small “V” in the tip of the ear to signify that the cat has been fixed & vaccinated, while they’re under anesthesia.

    I just moved to a new house too. Fed two strays. These guys have spread the word about my cafe, and I am now feeding 5 strays plus my 2 indoor cats. Captured 3 of the 5 and spayed/neutered them, rabies, dewormed to prevent more litters. Purchased small homes for them, let them sleep on the porch when it got below 25 degrees, helping them with warmth, and guess now I have adopted the neighborhood. 8:00 am and 5:00 pm feedings! I just couldn't let them starve but just baffles me how people can just abandon them. Too many heartless people.

    I just love this woman and what she stands for. So many turn their backs on everything but themselves and here she goes all out for just the love of life and the beauty of animals. With all my heart I think God placed animals here to teach us all how to be better human beings. This woman is now as good as you can get. I too help out and take care of 9 feral cats in my yard twice a day for three years plus my house cat and pup. It cost plenty of money and loads of time and effort but I get back more just seeing the joy and peace they have knowing they don't have to kill for their next meal, or starve like they used to. .God bless her heart.
