this is an introvert's dream right there.. while going to the island you could listen to some music with airpods and appreciate the view.. then you can stay beside more than 100 cats while feeding them without much noise (i'm an introvert, that's why i love japan and its culture, someday i'll go to japan (:

you're incorrect. all these cats are overweight. dry food is bad for cats. just look it up edit: dry food isn't bad for cats but it can be. it increases risk of weight gain significantly

They may live well as far as food and shelter but they aren't getting nearly enough INDIVIDUAL HUMAN contact, they're almost if not feral. Look at those little faces and tell me those cats are happy... no they're not happy.

Fun fact: Visitors are allowed to take cats from the island, so they have a nice, warm home!

@@wolvar6933 these cats don't look that bad, all things considered. I feed a colony of 4-5 cats and they have more obvious problems, because they live around a lot of garbage. Ive tried to get them some veterinary care, but they are still too wary of humans and difficult to trap. It can be frustrating, but I respect their lifestyle.😺😸

Getting them fixed ( the Japanese ones) would certainly cut down the overpopulation problem. The colony I feed never have kittens, but that might be because they are all females.

19:00 is WHOLESOME AS WHOLESOME COMES. The head butt and scent rubbing on each other, the love they have. So adorable.

Its kind of the same as the situation with the Dodo Bird. A perfect island where there are no apex predators for cats. They probably keep the rodent population down to a minimum.

I came to Aoshima Island about 5 years ago with my son, my son has lived in Japan for 14 years. It was a lovely experience to feed and pat the cats. I am coming to Japan next week, so I will try to come to Aoshima again. Love from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️ 🐈🐾

I've yet to see a call stray. Of course I live near mean people so that's likely why the strays I feed are slow to trust humans. Took a year of feeding 2 of the 5 for 2 to warm up to me and let me give pets and hand fed treats

yeah, my long cousin brad rodgersons used to literally catch the strays and rescues from all around the town and he would clean them all and the whole cats at a time hed cook rotisserie over a fire in the field by the woods acrosse the alley. thats how the cops caught him. nothing happened they were just freaked out. laws was different in them days. -Jed

There should be some rules to the tourist at the island. 1. Put the food on the plate or clean area. Don't simply put on the ground or sands area. They cannot digest the small rock. 2. There should be specific feeding area

If you put 5 hungry humans and then threw a pile of food for all of them to share, there WILL BE FIGHTING. I am from Finland rural area farm. We always had cats. Not are they good as company and friendly to humans and good as pets and family members. But they take care of the homestead as well (if you are too lazy hooman). Never had any problems with rats or mice or creepy crawlies at all. Silver Fish or Mouse infestation?... They'll clean it right out. Cats takes care of the home. Dogs guard it. ;)

Thank you for this video. My daughter will be visiting Japan as it is her dream to visit the very dignified people of Japan. I'm getting older now and not in great health. Maybe in my next life I will get to visit Japan. Yes, cats and people are very similar. If you seek for an alternative, Turkey is already like this place. Especially in cities, towns and villages. Me as a Turkish person it’s a very familiar view for me. Just visit a village,town from somewhere in Marmara coast, almost same. If you try to make a barbecue or something they have a potential to create an army from like nowhere in 10 minutes. This is a beautiful thing to have an island just for cats. While most look healthy there are some that look too skinny. I also see signs of eye infections and flea infestation in some of the cats. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to ensure that all cats are healthy and disease down to a minimum. When I am able I will donate. Many prayers of blessings and good health for the cats and those who care for them!

I would love to live in a place like this. It's very quiet there, there is the sea, and a lot of these amazing cute creatures. They just radiate peace, beauty and kindness😻💕

As a cat lover this look like heaven to me.

This is so AWESOME! What a cool place to visit. Thank you for posting this. It was beautiful, and also educational. I wish they had a place like this in every single state in the United States. An open space for visitors and tourists, but also residents that help feed and take care of them. It would be so much better than some of the shelters currently up and running. No cages. If I ever go to Japan, this place is now on my bucket list.

I pray that all of the cats find a home. Nice to meet them all nice to meet the famous Dokin-chan. Thank you for sharing this with us and giving your time to these cats in need.

Many of those kitties are elderly. Low weight, scruffy coats and missing fur on their faces. I see many in the comment section saying they are sick. Nope just old. Surprised more people don't live on the island. In the States, having an Island home is a dream for many. Especially one that is only an hr ferry ride away.

Thank you for your comment. You are right, all cats are aging. I think the residents have made a very wise decision. In fact, it would be very difficult for them to live on the island. We will see what happens in the future.

@Assingment MAT Yes that is a big part of it. Many of the younger folks don't even want to live in the rural villages. So many of these cute villages are pretty much abandoned, only a handful of the elderly are left and when they pass on, their kids dont want the family farms and just walk away and abandon it. I heard Japan is basically giving these abandoned houses away for free in the countryside. A few youtube channels are about getting some of these houses and fixing them up. One woman is an American. So my guess they are allowing foreigners to acquire them as well.

@ponpon The one lady that has a channel rehabbing one of these homes is from New York, she just worked in Japan. She sold her apt in New York to live in Japan permanently in the free house. So there must be other ways.

Those KZread channels aren’t giving you the full details on what you need to do to acquire those places. You want to check with the Japanese channels who give a lot more info into those “deals”. For foreigners, it might work out better for us, but we still have to learn the language, acquire the specific visas to live here. As an American living here, we’ve looked into this and there’s a lot that goes into it.

Not sure these animals are regularly seen by a veterinarian, some of them have eye discharge, Ear mites, are very skinny, bald patches, and look generally unwell. I don't think they are vaccinated either. I hope the Govt will get them the vet care they need.

Shame they can't convert some of the abandoned buildings in to hotels, pet food stores and restaurants. If they did visitors could stay on the island and feed more cats.

I just imagine in the new age, when people are better, life is stable, and access to one’s needs are available, there might be a tiger island with the same energy as this.

I have fantasized about moving to Aoshima and helping the cats. I would love all the space from people, and I hate seeing so many homeless animals. Maybe open a hotel/cat adoption lol! I don't know what I'd do once all the cats got homes, but it's a nice thought in my head.

If I won the lottery I would buy a house and turn it into a cat rescue! But a whole island! That's heaven on earth!

There's lots of rules and regulations you need to adhere to, if you don't the government will shut it down. Don't matter what country you're in.

@@tazer7711 I'm sure there's certain aspects they like, but they're not protected from weather, or disease. The fighting tells me they still feel insecure about resources, and territory. Happy cats are more harmonious together. In my experience of cat rescue, cats still seek out love and affection no matter their circumstances.

actually, cats are not nocturnal, they're crepuscular! that means that they are most active/awake around dusk and dawn, so in the early morning and and in the evening! Which would explain why they were all awake when visiting in the morning. ^^

Beautiful experience! Thank you for today's wonderful cat video. When I want to think of things to relax me I will remember Cat Island. I will go there in my dreams. I have two lovely cats of my own, Urrow and Pansy, both girls. They love me, and also love each other! 😸😸

I believe the notched ear means they have been spayed or neutered.

Had to stop watching after the quiet cat on the bench still couldn't get a chance to eat after he patiently waited. Made me cry. I wanna visit this cat island one day but it might make me cry too.
