Peanut is a beautiful princess! Don’t give up! I rescued 2 cats from a terrible hoarding situation in TX. They were a bonded pair, male and female. I named them Beau and Bella. Bella was easy. She loved me right away. Beau…he wasn’t easy. I had them for five yrs before Beau finally seemed to calm down and quit doing really weird things. No details, but my friend runs our local Humane Society shelter, and she told me Beau was a psycho and not in a cute kitty way. Today, he is a sweet, affectionate, spoiled beautiful boy! It was worth the wait!

Cats do pick their people. Thank you for adopting and giving her a wonderful life.

I apparently am destined to be a crazy cat lady, cats bond to me often (and living with someone who fostered kittens, that was TORTURE) but the true highlight was Violet and Monkey... I decided I was ready for another cat after losing my 17 year old baby girl (Sassacat) 5 years prior... I chose Violet at the shelter, Monkey insisted on coming home too. Violet is now thoroughly spoiled by my son (she picked him) and monkeycat was the other half of my soul. Unfortunately I only got 7 years with him but I'd give pretty much anything to have him still with me. He was everything I wasn't looking for, lol, but he ended up being.... pretty much my everything. Best. Cat. Ever.

Also, the harder you try to befriend them, the more they will ignore you. Just keep talking to her, and she will warm up to you. 🐈🐈‍⬛😻

Trying too hard. Secret is to let them come to you. Don't go to them. Had one like that and now she's a gem

Yep. Cats are not dogs. They tend to choose their humans unless they are the friendly or docile ones. If they feel more comfortable with you, they will seek you out. However, there will always be that one very independent cat who prefers to be left alone and we had a cat like that.

She is priceless. Her meow, her sad front legs, cute face and demeanor make her a real snuggle bug.

When she fell in the crack and you laughed at her, you could see her get mad at you for laughing. She definitely doesn’t like to be laughed at just as much as she loves being complimented. She’s a very unique little lady. 😊

I had a similar situation, but mine was worse. I owned a cat for years (that I had since with an ex- bf , but she always liked my ex and only tolerated me. When I first met my fiancé, he had never owned pets. and was not familiar with cat behavior. The first time she met him, she fell in love. She shamelessly laid on his chest and was always on his knee and would not leave him alone. For the next five years, they shared a special bond where I as her owner was merely a bother while her love with my husband and his love for her grew bigger over the years. I was just happy to see that she converted my husband into a cat-lover and he made my princess very happy. RIP Angel, girl.

I have a cat who lived feral for 5-6 years. I began feeding him while he lived outdoors & he bonded to me quickly. Eventually I *HAD* to bring him indoors permanently as a pair of red foxes were hunting him & he got mauled pretty badly. He's a little lovebug with me but will never warm up to any other human in my family. I keep him in his own separate part of my home as he tries to bite my family member's legs randomly. I'm the only person who can ever pet him. Building that bond with him came at a price - patience & forgiveness through many bloody bites & scratches. Giving a home to a wild kitty ain't easy but if you're willing to tough it out & carry a few scars, they'll leave their little pawprints on your heart forever

As a lifelong cat rescuer, I can tell ya, that laugh at the end, at Peanut's expense, definitely set you back about three years...hahaha. Great vid! My current feral rescue has taken nearly eight years to relax...each one is sooo unique!! Wouldn't change a thing, though -- love cats and their incredibly different temperments...

It took me 9 months to be able to even pet my rescue cat. Now I have had her almost 2 years and I still can't pick her up or walk too fast. She will run and hide. She will not sleep with me either.

Give a cat lots of space while making sure their needs are met. Be available but not needy, like lying on the floor in the same room to read listen to tunes, but not near the cat. They get used to you being present but not threatening or a pest.

I'm sure your rescue cat will come around when she is ready. They like it on their terms and their timeline. Don't try too hard. It's like dating someone if you know what I mean. My feral kitty was already 2 years old when I adopted her and would not let me touch her for the first 1.5 years and it had to be only my head that could touch her. She was very afraid of hands. She is now 9 and has become the most affectionate, sweetest cat! It took years of patience, kindness, and understanding - as well as losing her at the airport, finding her after almost two weeks, and moving across country - for her to realize she can fully trust me. And she shows me every day now. It is worth it.

Don't try so hard and maybe if you ignore her, she will look for you and come around and ask for the treats and the toys and your attention and love. She has to realize that you are a great Mom and she should be the one showing you that love and affection.

I once had a cat who was very affectionate with me, and my parents, but that was it, no one else. Then she met my nephew. She had a major girl crush on him the minute she met him!

Try not to look at her too much. Specially don't look her in the eyes. Hold your eyes a bit closed and blink while you look past her. Sometimes that helps. It expresses that you are relaxed and no danger.

I feel that ma'am! Our cats switch allegiances. It was years before our black cat, Ursie, decided to like my husband. Now she sleeps with him all the time. When I first met my husband, I was thrilled to meet his Airedale, Curly. Now, dogs have either loved me or bit me. Ok, one bit me and one charged me when I was a kid. Well, Curly, IGNORED me! It was like I was invisible. But, one day, my husband's ex-girlfriend left a package of LifeSavers in the mailbox for Curly. And...I gave them to him! Magic! I became Mom and we loved each other the rest of his long life. :)

Nah, Peanut loves her mom too, just in a different way. Like, how with some of my friends I show affection by being cuddly, while my other friend and I always sass each other and "fight". It's just different kinds of love. But also, don't try too hard. Just be chill. Cats usually don't like being "chased". They rather go to those who don't even want them around and are more aloof.

I had a cat that only liked me too. Didn't want anything to do with anyone else!! My cat did the same thing if I had to work late. He would meow at my partner until I came home. Then run to me the minute I did come home.

She’s like a short legged version of my girl Etta! My ex became OBSESSED with her beauty and would try so hard to get her to like him. He would ask about her when not there, bf basically ignored my other cat Adeline - who DID actually ask for pats from him! Etta is basically a one person cat and she’s only ever been civil to like two other people. She had such disdain for my ex, and he was in love. It was hilarious but also really annoying. The day he picked her up while my back was turned - after I repeatedly told him she didn’t like being picked up even by me, who she DOES like - was the nail in the coffin of our relationship. I heard her protest meow and immediately turned around to tell him off 😂

She's a Beautiful Diva and let's be honest, we could buy all of the cat toys in a Pet Store but the cat only gets really excited over the box that the toys came in.

My wife had a super, "bitchy", cat when we first began dating. It took 3 years before that cat accepted me. Then the Boxer/Pit mix we adopted a year after, they were at war. Then we caught them snuggling. Such a weird thing

Our cat Fiona is the same, except she doesn’t really like my husband either. She randomly melts into a puddle of love and affection like twice a month; other than that she’s a totally neurotic drama queen. Needless to say, we love her to pieces all the same. We have 4 cats and they all have completely different personalities and they each make us happy in their own ways.❤
