    So many people are ignorant of the signs of fear in a dog. I meet a lot of dogs and I have met many, many more in my life, and I can safely say that real aggressive dogs - those who are aggressive with humans - are the EXTREME minority. In fact, you are lucky, if you have just once encountered one, they are so rare. Many would fiercely bark at the end of a leash, or behind their fences or closed doors, but only very, very few would bite, or worse, really attack a human, like one can see on some videos, the victims of dog attacks. Seriously attacking a human is crazy dog-behaviour, absolutely not normal, and those dogs are better put down. But 99,9999999% of dogs who bark and threaten are simply afraid, poor souls, who just need patience and love.

  • @mamaj6028
    @mamaj60282 жыл бұрын

    People usually don't realize that dogs only have their bark and their teeth to protect themselves. Growling, barking are signs of fear. Imagine being afraid and dying because of it ! I have a similar situation and ended up with a goofy , love bug like Milan ! Thank you for saving this dog ! Bless you, and keep it up, the dogs need you. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

    I mean as someone who adores all animals but has also been attacked by dogs i could literally never adopt a dog who is capable of showing aggression like that without just cause. I have a crippling fear of being mauled by a dog since it has happened to me when i was 4 years old, trauma happening SO young shapes the way your brain creates fear responses, im sure MANY other people have the same experiences, or other circumstances like they have young children in the home and risking those children’s wellbeing or lives is not an option. Every dog deserves a home, but if i went to a shelter and saw a snarling growling mess of a dog i would never consider taking them to MY home, because of my trauma i require a friendly and calm dog, although i do understand they are only showing aggression out of fear, dogs are also capable of attacking and killing out of fear, so the motivations for the dog’s angry face makes no difference to my safety. Maybe if there werent so many idiots who let their dogs off leash then there wouldnt be so many people who have been attacked by dogs and are now terrified of every loud bark they hear

    The shelter likely has DOZENS if not 100s of dogs, they don't have the time of capacity to work like this. Also, most of their employees are likely not behavioural experts. The real shame lies with the people who keep backyard breeding and the people who buy puppies without thinking of the commitment they require and then dumping them.

    I've long said that empathy is the ONLY genuine foundation for human morality, not the abstract moral dictates found in some book. And this woman's obvious empathy for this poor pooch demonstrates her own incredible moral makeup, and allowed her to save the poor critter when others couldn't. What a gal!

    It makes me mad to think an animal shelter couldn't spend the time needed to show this doggo she had nothing to fear. A prime example of all that's wrong with these shelters. I'd much rather see a pack like shelter were all the dogs run free together. They always look much happier in these circumstances.

    shelters are underfunded, completely run by volunteers, and some aggressive dogs inevitably have to be isolated from other dogs for their own and others safety. I wouldn't be so quick to blame shelters when the real issues are lack of funding for rescues, exponentially breeding more dogs into existence for people to buy, and lack of animal rights laws to protect these animals from abuse in the first place

    Many people who work in shelters feel the same way. The overriding issues are funding, time, and space. For the system to change, the community has to decide to change them.

    I can't even think of what she must have gone through for her to be so scared and distrustful of humans. I can't believe some people and how they can hurt such a beautiful dog. They can suffer from trauma just like humans and it shows. I'm glad she's safe now, and I hope she's happy and safe in her new home. I also wanted to say how Mulan is such a fitting name for her. I'm really happy to see how the popular youtube animal/dog/cat channels are pushing fostering and adoption, as well trap, neuter, return for feral/street cats. If people really love animals, and care about welfare, the above are where we must be looking! Not designer dogs and cats from breeders! (and "pure" breeds come with their own issues, as i'm sure a lot of us know.)

    I can see she has recently had puppies and my guess is they were taken from her before she was ready to let them go. I rescued a pitmix in 2017 and I can't help but think this happened to her also. I overlooked the dog I finally chose because she was barking so much in the shelter. The next time I went, a local pitbull rescue volunteer was there who had worked with the dogs and she brought out that dog to me. What a difference in the meet and greet pen. I tunred 60 that year, she was my first dog ever, but I did my homework first. I adopted her and have never looked back. That was a lesson learned not to judge a dog by its kennel behavior. But the behavior later takes a special patient and aware person to see how the dog reacts to its new home. My Gracie shied away in fear from pots with metal spoons in them. Pots alone were fine. Spoons alone were fine but put the two together and she showed extreme fear. Same with opening cabinet doors or drawers, We had to do it slowly. If the ceiling fan is on in the kitchen she doesn't like that either. Most of her fears are in the kitchen. I had to move her food and water bowls 3 times beofre we found a spot she felt comfortable with. I'm pretty sure a woman abused her wherever she was before. On dark rainy winter nights she refused to let me take her outside to do her business. My husband or son had to do it. I think maybe this woman dumped her on a night like that. So far it's been like this every winter but she is getting better to trust me. She still has moments or times but overall has learned to trust me more. But I have a red and black plaid jacket and if I put that on, its game over. Then my husband or son have to take her out. Crazy, huh? A lot of people either don't have the patience, have no idea what they're getting in to or are completley ignorant of what it takes to rescue an abused dog. I watched a few episodes of Pitbulls and Parolees and this happened where the family brought the dog back the very next day. WHAT??? you can't judge a dog by one day especially when you're just brought them into a new envronment. They're terrified! They have no idea what might happen next. And the people who bring family and friends over the same day or next day is absolute recipe for disaster. The dog needs time to decompress from shelter life and their former life, a few weeks is best. They need time to rest and build trust with their new humans and process all the new smells. We kept her isolated in the house no guests and we kept it quiet. I took her out on the leash and stayed in the yard. She saw one of our neighbors from a distance with a fence between us as we chatted a bit and Gracie was shaking and trembling. for Gracie, she needed this "shutdown" time. We have no way of knowing what her histroy was before us. She was about 4 years old, housebroken, knew some commands and was a very polite dog. My guess is someon else in the house must have loved her and worked with her but the other person did not. going slow and lost of patience and love. Loads of patience. KUDOS to all who are brave and patient with these dogs who need us to go the extra mile for them.

    Thank you for giving this great dog a chance to live. My son called, 5 years ago from the Pound. Our Bichon had recently passed away and he had found a Bichon puppy that was about to be put down next. The puppy had multiple genetic anomalies and they discouraged us from taking him. Of course I said I wanted him. He had surgery on his back legs and everything else he can live with. He's still the heart of our family.
