+Uh Huh It was the first bike i had built and there were problems with intake sealing and head gaskets due to shipping delay. Later I fixed it. But thanks for noticing!) Appreciate your criticism.

I forgot how the old ones sound. Sounds like an old John deer riding mower I had a long time ago. That's a real treasure though, would you trade it for an 1988 full custom sportser 1200?

6pac 42WLA only has 5:1 compression & will run on very low octane fuel like 74 or less which in WW2 was the normal army fuel. You can't even buy octane that low these days. Being side valve they don't like high compression. I think even the racing ones only had 6 : 1 ? Any higher gets detonation & engine failures. Your Harley there looks to have a Mukini carb. I had WLA with that carb as well. Start up was a 1 or 2 kick job 99% of the time. Choke on, no throttle because that's how the choke worked, ignition set to retard & start it would nearly always 1st kick. Mine had the standard ignition & the advance/retard had a bracket that set the timing range in conjunction with the timing mark (strobe light used) via a removable bolt to the flywheel slot on the left hand side. Mine ran very well for years. Your bike has/had a magneto but no apparent timing bracket ? Hit & miss positioning may look cool but not the best to get the bike running at optimum ?. Excessive retard does get the flames out of the exhaust but that's about all, as low power is also had. Straight through pipes probably don't affect the valves in the engine but long term they are a pain in the ear drums. I always ran pipes & a muffler. Pipes into the heads are a challenge to fit properly but worth the time to do it correctly provided the ports were not already damaged ? So many leak & have a "quick fix" holding screw drilled in the side near the exhaust port. The upshot of that is backfire on the overrun & carbon build up on the pipes at the exhaust exit. This makes the bike noisier than it needs to be.

actually....I could care less what anyone wears...but when I was 16 I loved wearing my runners on my 45....until one night when an unlit car came out of an alley and sideswiped me (while I was watching a mini skirt)...my ankle was impaled on the cool bare metal brake pedal. So...all these years later I have a big nasty scar, and always wear leather boots when riding....and keep the big rubber pad on the brake pedal.
