    Yes you are right. It was total junk and has been completely rebuilt. Frame, gearbox and engine are still original. The engine has a WLA number.

    @heinwonneby907 No, I d have mine anymore, but here's an interesting story. Back in about 1969-70 my brother enquired about buying an army surplus Jeep. They wrote back and replied, no he cannot buy one Jeep only. It's either 4 Jeeps, or 12 Harley Davidsons.

    @@kieronoconnell2022 Very interesting. Unfortunately, those days are over and prices have exploded in recent years. A Willis from this era is my dream. There are many military vehicles from this period in Holland, France and England. There was a big meeting with the old vehicles here for D-Day.

    You have to know that! They are not quick, they are bitchy, you need a lot of tools, time and good nerves. Despite everything, it is really fun to drive.😉

    @@heinwonneby907 A far as old Harley's go, the WL(A)s are among the more reliable, I suspect due to the low-compression engine. I find they are smoother and don't vibrate as much as other models from the era. Same with the Indian Chief.

    @@MrJones-ge5sl I've been working on the bike for a long time. Now the WLA runs reliably. It was built in large numbers and there are enough spare parts compared to other bikes from that period. That's a big advantage.

    My father told me that right after the war, in San Antonio, you could buy one new in the crate for $50. Of course that's about $2500 in todays money but still.

  • @heinwonneby907

    @heinwonneby907

    Yes, it was like that back then. I think $ 50 was a lot of money at the time. After the war, a lot of motorcycles remained that were sold to soldiers or converted into civilian motorcycles. Unfortunately, I don't know the history of my motorcycle. A lot of WLAs have been scrapped here in Europe. I believe that my machine was also converted into civilian clothes. Built in 1942 and engine number WLA. Unfortunately, many parts were missing during the restoration or were no longer usable. I had to replace them with new parts. "Save the Flatheads"

    Hein Wonneby then it is like mine. I wonder how do our HS needles were installed and why, considering that the Venturi is not the same as per M51. Would you be able to explain? Thanks

    @heinwonneby907

    @@edpazikas8777 Yes, in the civil version, the HS needle is installed as standard. All military models lack the HS needle. The reason is simple, the engine was set to extreme conditions. A richer mixture should prevent overheating in the terrain. and so that the soldier should not change anything, she simply lacks. My carburetor was an original M 88 from 1942 military. During the restoration of the engine, the carburetor was tuned to the new engine. The new engine has over 800 cubic centimeters and more Ps. The HS needle was retrofitted and HS and LS nozzles were modified
