Within Temptation was formed in the Netherlands 1996 and debuted w/ the album 'Enter' in 1997 (Nightwish formed around the same time in Finland)... The core of WT is female singer Sharon den Adel and her husband, guitarist Robert Westerholt... their mix of rock, classical & symphonic music made them one of the genre's first acts (After Forever was another band formed in the Netherlands that featured Floor Jansen on vocals, who went on to join Nightwish... their former guitarist Mark Jansen formed Epica w/ singer Simone Simons) The difference (from Nightwish) was that Within Temptation also incorporated elements of pop & hiphop and were developed their own brand of symphonic rock. I believe this performance was in 2008. Since Sharon & Robert had children, Robert does not tour w/ Within Temptation - he works in the studio. Sharon does the touring w/ bassist Jeroen Van Veen, keyboardist Martijn Spierenburg, guitarists Ruud Jolie & Stefan Helleblad, and drummer Mike Coolen.

Shame you didn't mentioned the godmother of female fronted metalbands, Anneke van Giersbergen.

Beautiful reaction as always! This whole concert (called "Black Symphony") is awesome. I think you would love also seeing the song "Somewhere" from this concert. It is a duet Sharon does with Anneke van Giersbergen. Some have called it the most beautiful duet ever recorded.

Within Temptation is another example of the diversity of the European symphonic metal bands. There are several recommendations I could list here, but the one that comes to mind first is the duet from this same concert with Sharon and Anneke van Giersbergen performing the song 'Somewhere'.

Some more Within Temptation songs.. let's see.. 'Stand My Ground' was one of my first introductions to them, and the music video resembles Evanescence's first hit. 'Our Solemn Hour' is inspired by Winston Churchill's most famous speech. 'The Howling' is powerful. 'The Reckoning', 'Raise Your Banner' and 'Trophy Hunter' are great tracks from their 2018 album.

Nobody ever suggests Stand My Ground and it's my favorite song of theirs.

Within Temptation and Nightwish were created at the same time and form the two poles in symphonic metal. WT is more pop, Nightwish symphonic. The bands after them move between these two bands. Nightwish has never used an orchestra live before. The band is the effort too big.

My absolute favorite band. Sharon Den Adel may be the most pure hearted human alive.

Sharon is my favorite female singer, and this video is part of a live concert, for me the best of them, the name is black symphony. One of the best songs for me is Paradise, Angels, memories. and for the new "era" of WT shed my skin or "the purge".

Amazing band, and Sharon is such a diverse and talented singer. Definitely check out some more of this concert, namely "The Promise" and "The Truth Beneath The Rose"! If you want to hear them without orchestra, maybe try out the music video of "Shot in the Dark" or "Raise Your Banner".

I remember when I first heard Sharon's voice....it was on Timo Tolkki's(Ex-Stratovarius) album Hymn of Life. I was...dunno...mesmerized. Had to find everything from her so I naturally came across WT. Made me such a huge fan. Mother Earth is still my fav album from them and still is in top 10 of everything. So many good memories

I'm glad The Night's Watch allowed Sharon to take leave from her vigil and perform this concert.

For the first time a read the name of Nemesea in a reaction... I don't have much albums of them, but I think it's a shame they are never mentioned by others!

Black Symphony is a magical show, it's brilliant from start to finish. It's the first concert DVD my wife and I watched together, and they're still one of her favorite bands.

Within Temptation has sung with original Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen on the track 'Paradise (What about us)' from their album Hydra. Other good duets from that Album are 'Dangerous' with vocalist Howard Jones and 'And we run' with rapper Xzibit.

Nice reaction girl, Mother Earth was an amazing album from WT. I guess ''The Promise (Black Symphony)'' is THE SONG of this concert. It has all the folk and metal vibe from their earlier music style, and it's probably one of the best songs to watch all the power in Sharon's voice. You may like it

Within Temptation is based in symphonic metal, but they do reach into other genres as well. My favorite is Ice Queen. Others to try: Paradise(What About Us) feat. Tarja , Shot in the Dark, or one of their newest Shed My Skin feat Annisokay. Asking Alexandria released a song the other day called Faded Out and that song features Within Temptation.

Legendary concert! Set the standard before Nightwish Wacken 2013! Wish I had been there! Still one of my fav concert blu-rays of all time. And to think Sharon was quite ill just before this performance!

just wanted to add that sharon is the queen of symphonic metal i believe if i remember right she is a self taught vocalist when she goes full angel not even floor can match her, and yes that was her at end of song the last dance shows a lot of her abilities 😁

@@mauijttewaal Actually she said again in an interview at the end of 2023 that she's had no singing lessons. I don't know where you heard otherwise but I do believe her when she says she hasn't had lessons on camera.

Thanks for sharing one of my favorite old metal/rock bands, Sharon Den Adel was my first metal queen shhhh don't tell SuMetal, I don't want she get jealous 😅❤️ I love this song and my other favorites are "Angels, Memories, Ice Queen, Stand My Ground, Sinead, Faster, Dangerous, And We Run, Edge Of The World, Covered By Roses" and more. This one is energetic and it was an special performance with an orchestra, they don't have those on every live concert specially because their sound change a lot since then, some fans like me like it some don't. If you want another good song with energetic sound watch "Paradise (What About Us?)" feat. Tarja Turunen official MV. Tarja was the first Nightwish singer. Really glad you're giving this Deutsch band a chance. Another few tips about them, she's married with one of the members, the bald one. She's versatile and you'll find songs covers of many others artists from different genres. She also got a song collaboration with Armin Van Buuren called "In And Out Of Love", you probably know this without knowing the singer, many people know the song without knowing who's the singer thinking is just a random singer lol See you next time! She doesn't have Indonesian blood, she just lived there until she was about 7, she also lived in Yemen and Suriname before her family moved back to the Netherlands when she was 11.

The song Faster is very different to this one, i think that is a pretty good song

If you watch your concerts and say 2002 to present, You will come to the conclusion that she was a female version of Freddie Mercury on stage... Working the audience... and now so many others finally do, like her. She is a good example of how to be alive, in concert. Actually a lot of her antics, like the dancing, she seems to have picked up from prior people's she followed, such as Kate Bush, And I am sure Freddie as well.

I kind of think of her as more the female version of Bruce Dickinson. Iron maiden were one of the bands that were a big influence on them in forming their own style.

Love symfonic metal, two other bands in the same category is Epica and Nightwish. All three bands are great in their own way. Personally I'm more for Epica. To get a taste of both Epica and Nightwish singer I would suggest Epica - sancta terra (retrospect live FT Floor Jensen)

Another excellent band. They've done heavier songs, and poppier songs, but my absolute favourite is "Pale", and there's a very good live performance on KZread. It sounds too good to be live, but it is.

Great introduction to Within Temptation! The band definitely has more sides that are worth exploring. Some of their music videos are absolute powerful works of art. I'd actually recommend those more than their live performances. Sharon den Adel has some of the sweetest and most beautiful high notes that I've heard (and I say that as a HUGE Floor Jansen fan). The song "Memories" is my favorite showcase of her voice. That one is a beautiful ballad. Then for the band's high power and energy songs, I love "And We Run" and "Paradise" featuring Tarja, the first singer of Nightwish. I'd strongly recommend those three music videos. Seeing Sharon den Adel and Tarja in a dueling duet is one of the most powerful things on KZread. How old were you in 1997? That is when they pretty much started out and release music and they started with Celtic or goth or fairy-tale like , mixed with death growl.. Then evolved into spectacular symphonic heavy metal, Then on to retro heavy metal around 2010, Now at a synth-Metal with a lot of retro metal and some symphonic metal mixed in. They have done many collaborations with other artists since 2008 , With their musical production, But even Sharon Ann would in temptation did collaboration earlier than that with Arjen Lucasssen (Ayreon), Who you should also maybe look at, But do so after you've enjoyed a lot of within temptation and Sharon's wonderful vocals

Helloween is a good idea. They are the founders of (European) power metal. This is faster than Sabaton's and is the precursor to symphonic metal. Where is Therion?

WT was my favorite symp metal until I got “Floored” by Nightwish. Some still prefer Sharon, but for me, she can’t top Floor Jansen; not in a million years.

Bicuite seriously, move to Finland and marry me. You're such a beautiful young woman. Have you done modeling, also love your energy on these reacts. Within Temptation and Sharon especially are great. They have more radio friendly songs for U.S. Epica and Nightwish song are way too long and maybe too complex for radio people.(joking, obviously those that are played have been paid money to play 1 every hour or something)
