Is it possible to ride better if you visualise your riding?
When visualising, one imagines how one would optimally perform the action, or what one would like to improve in comparison to previous actions. This imaginary optimal case should also improve the action that is actually carried out afterwards.
The better one can imagine the action, the more intensively one can put oneself into the movement and the environment, empathise with feelings and record sounds, the better the subsequent effect. Studies have shown that visualisation can have an enormous effect on athletic success.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl also uses mental training as a preparation for a tournament, for example, immediately before a test. She then retreats to a quiet corner and rides through the competition "with all her senses" from beginning to end - including the ringing of the judge's bell, the feeling of the reins in her hand and every single movement of her horse and her body. She says: "For me, this is the optimal training to go into the test well and even more confident."
