Wish I Was a Blue Job (Troopie songs)

Музыка

It is good to be happy with your lot but it is better to pursue a dream……JE
When I did my service, the nickname for an airman was a “Blue Job”
And a “brown job” was a soldier. I wrote this song when I was a “Brown Job” and longed to one day be able to fly -my dream came true!

Our school was up the road from Thornhill in Gwelo. The planes would take off and fly right over us. Hunters, Vamps and Canberras would pass over us at a few thousand feet. @@JohnEdmondMusic No Sir but my brother was a tech in the Bell squadron stationed at New Serum. He often brought his air force buddies to our house to visit so I had the privilege to hear lots of their wild and wacky stories. Looking back though they did talk a lot, but we never heard details about their work or sorties. No loose lips there. I was also brought up with 5 brothers and 3 of them were in the forces. Unfortunately, Alex's Huey was blown up with him inside in the 1979 Operation Urik and we did not recover his remains but have been able to visit the site he was entered. The pilots did do a fly over our house to honour his demise. Goodness that was a long time ago, but the mooshi comradeship is still fresh in my memory. When I was younger, I often thought about going for a ride in a Huey which was giving joy rides for hire in Cape Town, South Africa but the opportunity did not arise, and I feel a bit too old now for that. Good to hear from you and I trust you are well. Best Wishes. Lamees Ahmad.
