Wish I Was a Blue Job (Troopie songs)
Музыка
It is good to be happy with your lot but it is better to pursue a dream……JE
When I did my service, the nickname for an airman was a “Blue Job”
And a “brown job” was a soldier. I wrote this song when I was a “Brown Job” and longed to one day be able to fly -my dream came true!

I only have one criticism of Rhodesia: it didn't last long enough

As a South African who's family hails from Rhodesia, thank you for your service and amazing music.
Even though I am a young lad, I cherish this song alot. Ever since I learnt of Rhodesia's greatness and John Edmond's splendid songs. It's made me very happy, when I am older, I will buy a Rhodesian flag to show my solidarity with the great nation of Rhodesia!
Now there's a word not heard in decades....."bluestone" Be it in Rhodesia or SA, we served proudly.

Thank you for your service. Salute from Poland
It's a strange feeling. Many of your best songs, like "Troopie boy you won", "Zimbabwe Ruins", "Old Zimbabwe Ghost" and others are so beautiful... yet, I'd rather they never had a reason to exist. Salute to all the Jobs, blue or brown. They truly gave the devil a hell of slap.
When I was a boy, one piece of clothing every boy wanted when they were tall enough: Rhodesian Light Infantry shorts!
I've only just heard of you and your music yesterday 29/04/24 and I absolutely love it. Such pride and love foe your country. Much love to you from Glasgow, Scotland.
Iive been a fan for a couple years now John, I don’t really know your full story but I’d love to know it. How long ago did you record most of your songs

Thank you mr Edmond for these Troopie songs. I was born in 90's but my interest in history (especially military history) has brought me here. As a Finnish "brown job" myself i think no matter the flag we serve we all sometimes wish we were "blue jobs".

Probably my favorite song ever Also the song that introduced me to Rhodesia and John Edmond
Our school was up the road from Thornhill in Gwelo. The planes would take off and fly right over us. Hunters, Vamps and Canberras would pass over us at a few thousand feet. Flown by brave men and true. I really really miss those days, when Rhodesia bravely stood alone against the world. A country worth fighting for.

3:33 Gotta love it when one of our own is mentioned in a foreign song.
the bush war is a perfect example of "Well trained, poor equipped Vs Poorly trained, greatly equipped" It's a broad way of saying it, but it sums it broadly. (not 100% true, ok?)

@@JohnEdmondMusic No Sir but my brother was a tech in the Bell squadron stationed at New Serum. He often brought his air force buddies to our house to visit so I had the privilege to hear lots of their wild and wacky stories. Looking back though they did talk a lot, but we never heard details about their work or sorties. No loose lips there. I was also brought up with 5 brothers and 3 of them were in the forces. Unfortunately, Alex's Huey was blown up with him inside in the 1979 Operation Urik and we did not recover his remains but have been able to visit the site he was entered. The pilots did do a fly over our house to honour his demise. Goodness that was a long time ago, but the mooshi comradeship is still fresh in my memory. When I was younger, I often thought about going for a ride in a Huey which was giving joy rides for hire in Cape Town, South Africa but the opportunity did not arise, and I feel a bit too old now for that. Good to hear from you and I trust you are well. Best Wishes. Lamees Ahmad.

Just had my fourth book published. Trail of the Scouts. Starts off in Rhodesia then moves to South Africa. Then the man is involved in a criminal act but redeems himself. Shan't tell you the ending but I hope it ends up in the small screen
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💐
As the air force were Blue Jobs and the army were Brown Jobs, I'm interested to know if these were the only two distinctions? I know Rhodesia was a landlocked country, so I assume there was no navy. Interesting factoid: Hungary actually has an Admiral and a few small military boats on some larger lakes.
Greetings from Brazil, I have to say that I like Rhodesia, it's sad to know that this great country is gone.
