Sgt Barry Sadler - Ballad of the Green Berets 1966
Ойын-сауық
Sgt Barry Sadler Ballad of the Green Berets Live Perfomance
Sgt Barry Sadler Ballad of the Green Berets Lyrics
Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat hand to hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request
Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

My Father was a Major Green Beret. He Retired and then passed away at the young age of 52 from Agent Orange. I know every word to every song on this Album. Singing them to this day with tears in my eyes. My favorite album. When my Mother passed away my sister wrote this on her obituary: God tapped Major James L. Drinkwater on the shoulder and told him to put on his Military Dress Blues... He had one last mission... To escort his beautiful bride, your Momma home to be with the Lord. Her trials are now over. She is now at peace in the loving arms of her husband (who waited 24 years and 8 days for her). There is Peace in the valley for Momma now. My father was a Major Green Beret but my Mother had an army of her own. We were a family of 11. Love and miss you from the depths of soul. Take care of my son. I have cried everyday for 2 years! Momma Loves You Soooo Much!

Second late husband was a Marine, served in Vietnam, served two two tours and was wounded twice. He died of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma caused by Agent Orange.

I grew up in a military family as well, but as a child it was just a song. Now in my 60's the song has a deeper meaning of all the soldiers who gave their last full measure of devotion (as Abraham Lincoln said), and just thinking about what the words mean brings tears to my eyes.

I graduated from high school in 1966 when this song came out. Thousands of us joined the military after hearing this song. Many of my friends never made back alive from Vietnam. I miss my friends. We were just kids. 18 years old. But we proudly served. This song had a lot to do with it. I'm 73 now. Still remember those days. It was a different time.

With songs like this, lets UNWOKE the military again.
One of, if not the first memory I had in my life was this playing live on our television. We lived in the house my dad had just finished building on McLaughlin Road in Hornby, NY; I was 3 years old. May the Lord bless the United States of America

I was 11 when this song was released. As a young kid it struck a chord and allowed me to visualize what these men did for this country , for those they tried to assist, and those they fought against. The words are simple yet poignant. These men do this for country and for people like me and for who they don't even know. These are men (and women) of principal, integrity, determination and yes, at times of great personal sacrifice....and this song is as appropriate today as it was decades ago ....

@Michael Flynn As a Christian man I must disagree with you. the U.S. Armed forces are why you have the freedom to worship as you please, our True U.S. soldiers dont kill innocent people, and the ones that do are punished. America was founded on Christian values, and because these our young men have chosen to stand up and fight for this wonderful country that God gave us, God has blessed us with some of the finest warriors the world has ever known, my best friend is currently in Army basic and has his sights set for Airborne Ranger. and by your disrespectful comment, you are being a very bad witness to non believers
It's really sad there's no guts like this today in America. Served in Seabee battalion NMCB 21. Thanks Vets!

And to all the Korean Vets, your war my have been forgotten by newer generations, but not by your families and your brothers-in-arms! Thank you all for your service and welcome home. I try to welcome home every Viet Nam Vet I see. There's been many tears shed by both vet and spouse from those two words. It's such a small thing that means so much to those that were wronged may all be blessed!.

Great grandfather... something tells me that your parents are younger than typical of the generation of your’s. Anyways, my father was a Green Beret, he was in Iran, Grenada, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Desert Storm/Iraq, Somalia, Kosovo, Bosnia and maybe a little more, too.
I enlisted in the Army in 1966 after this song came. I joined to become a Green Beret. I found out you had to be 21 years old so went to the 101st Airborne in Vietnam in 1968. Proud of my service and "Ballad of the Green Beret" is still my favorite.

There is nothing to say. But brave men will always come forth to serve. I've been practicing Silat and Escrima for 30 years. When I was 15 this kid in a 7-11 threatened me with a knife because I beat him at a video game. My mind snapped and I decided to dedicate my life to martial arts. I’m a proud chef To stress with a nice dish I wish for feasts to share I’m never scared of the kitchen knife My life depends on my skill I prepare for the King Wing in this with the sticks I swing begin to cook again
I remember this song growing up in the 60’s. I idolize the Green Berets to this day. AIRBORNE. ALL THE WAY 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I LOVE THIS SONG VERY MUCH . It touches your heart & made u feel emotional . Very appropriate song for MEMORIAL DAY .
I got to meet him at what a great honor it was to shake his hand
I first heard this song as sung by Barry Sadler after I arrived on Oahu after my return from service in Vietnam.
I was in the 6th grade when this song was released in January 1966. 50 years ago next month I married my Vietnam Vet. He was not a Green Beret, but he was my hero. He was in Vietnam, US Army, the year of 1971 and released from the army in early 1972, when I was still a senior in high school! One year later we met. He was 23 and I was 18 and attending my freshman year of college. We were married 3 months and 4 days later. Others said I was too young and we married too quickly but, we never once felt that way. Especially 46 years later when unfortunately, after healthy life, no PTSD, no health issues, he passed away from a non smoking lung cancer. His oncologist and VA believed it to be from having been exposed to Agent Orange 48 years earlier. He was diagnosed in 2018 and died October 2019.

I think of the movie First Blood when I listen to this song. I too wore silver wings but as a Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment. Never disrespect or push our veterans. God Bless our Green Berets.
As little boy, sang this song for grandpa. He was a WW1 veteran. Family 100 years military service. No one liked the veterans back then, still I joined the military. They told me when I went home don't wear your uniform. Beyond my comprehension. So sad, but still proud. Much Love, Sgt. Ward
