It’s a Long Way to Mukumbura - High Quality

Музыка

This 1977 song was set to the music of “It’s a long way to Tipperary”. The song both expressed, in humorous form, the physical distance to Mukumbura from other parts of the country while also celebrating the contributions made by different branches of the Rhodesian armed forces to the Rhodesian Bush War.

I know this song is already very widespread across KZread but i felt that the other lyric videos of this song weren't very high quality, so i made my own. And no, this is not a repost, dunno why that guy said so but i made this video from the ground up and this is the first time i released it.
Lyrics:
It's a long way to Mukumbura
It's a long way to jol
It's a long way from your hometown
But you can have yourselves a ball
With your muckers
Goodbye Bulawayo, tot siens Cecil Square
It's a long, long way to Mukumbura And we're going up there to stir
It's a long way to JOC Inyanga
It's a long way, ek se
It's a long way from Umtali
But it's wide tar all the way
Well, nearly
Goodbye to the Cecil
Hello the Mont Claire
It's a long, long way to JOC Inyanga
And the trout is biting there
It's a long way to Kariba
It's a long way to run
It's a long way from Makuti
But you can do it on your THUMB
With your FN
We love our Sergeant Major, when he drives an RL
When he takes it on those bush roads, It's just like going to
Heaven, I'm in Heaven
It's a long way to Llewelyn
It's a long way on the train
We could gooi it to the North Pole, But they'd build one just the same with the parade square
We all dig the starpies, haircuts and the graze
And if we really scheme it's lekker when we start on our first phase
For the Mortars
Action, disarm look again
They're so loud
For the Blues
Changa to echo base
Homing call required over
Chopper come home, chopper come home
For the Instructors
One check your rear aperture
Two move your working force to the rear
For the Greys
You fool private the tails at the back
For Signals
Hello two this is one over
Hello, one this is one too are you one two?
For the Medics
This water cannot be drunk until it has been passed by the M.O
For the Cops
No madam that’s not what we use V-cars for
You want the pest control vehicle
For the RWS
Ah, Becky, I can't make up my mind
Whether to wear the green or blue eyeshadow
To weapons training today
For INTAF
Now you chaps are expected to be keeping this keep
As it should be kept
The keep does not keep itself
For the Engineers
That’s not a flocculent
You idiot that’s the soap powder
It's a long way to Mukumbura
It's a long way to jol
It's a long way from your home town
But you can have yourselves a ball
With your muckers
Goodbye Bulawayo, tot siens Cecil Square
It's a long, long way to Mukumbura
And we're going up there to stir
Stir

My favorite part about this song is how every part of lyricism and melody sounds like a squad of Rhodesian soldiers found an electric guitar on the march and made this at the side of the road

Meanings: Mukkas: Means friend. It is derived from English slang term ‘mucker’, which means the same thing. Tot siens: Means ‘goodbye’ in Afrikaans. JOC: Joint Operations Centre. Ek se: A popular Afrikaans catchphrase added to the end of any sentence. Very popular among young Rhodesians in the mid 70’s. Ultimately meaningless. Mont Claire: Popular hotel in Rhodesia, later the target of an attack by ZANLA guerrillas. FN: It's an abbreviation for ‘Fabrique Nationale’ , which is a prolific arms manufacturing company from Belgium. In this case, FN means FN FAL, a famous battle rifle which was a standard equipment of Rhodesian Security Forces at the time. RL: Bedford RL is a military utility truck at the time used by the RSF. Kwai it to the North Pole: Blow it to the North Pole, eg. blow it to smithereens. Kwai, used as verb, is a reference to the 50’s movie The Bridge on the River Kwai, where an Allied commando is tasked with destroying a railway bridge. The Parade Square: The parade square at the Llewelyn Barracks, a military base near the Bulawayo city. Graze: Rhodesian slang for food. Lekker: Lekker is South African/Rhodesian slang for ‘ood’ or ‘attractive’. Blues: Nickname for the Rhodesian Air Force. Greys: Most likely refering to Greys Scouts. RWS: Rhodesian Woman’s Services. As a white Zimbabwean, I can say Rhodesia had its brilliant points as well as its flaws. We had a good, prosperous, well-run, well-lead, successful nation. A good, noble and kind people with a good, courageous leader. To this day, I am proud of my nation and countrymen. However the way we treated the blacks was deeply unfair and wrong. Rhodesia is gone now. We should have integrated the Africans into our government along with us whites. Creating an equal country for all. Blacks and Whites United. However, I have a dream that Zimbabwe will rise again. It will, mark my words. A Wildlife Capital and Breadbasket of Africa once again. Successful, prosperous and free. A land Built on Loving Kindness, Compassion, Unity, Tolerance and Friendship for all living Beings and people. A land where our wildlife and national parks continue to thrive, the people are happy and the country one of the richest in Africa again. Zanu PF will fall. We the people will rise. All of Zimbabwe, both human and animal will be happy, healthy, loved and protected. It is coming. It will be done. Amen. 💚💚🇿🇼🇿🇼🐾🐾

@Kristina Indriliunaite Notice! To the right wing extremists from the USA and beyond who likely will reply to my comment, I will politely say your ideals are no longer tolerated here. Your beliefs are fast dying out. We Rhodesians fought against hate and the nazis so you wouldn't find a place here even if Rhodesia still existed and would be kicked out of my country as what happened to US extremist Harold Covington. You will find most white Zimbabweans and South Africans today deeply opposed to your hateful dogma. Yes, I am proud to be white. I do not support woke ideologies. I may be no liberal. But I firmly believe with all my heart that Loving-Kindness, Unity and Tolerance is the only way for humanity to evolve and move forward. All people and beings are equally important, all deserving of kindness, compassion and respect. You may not like it but it's the truth. Please either evolve and change for the better or die off. The choice is yours.

I support a Zimbabwe where all people, regardless of whether we are black or white can thrive. A country built on Loving Kindness, Compassion, Unity, Peace and Friendship for all living beings. A country where our wildlife and national parks continue to thrive, the people are happy and our economy flourishes. A new Jewel and breadbasket of Africa and a wildlife capital/haven of the African continent. Even now, zanu pf is dying and a new, benevolent, good government is waiting to take over and transform our country. Don't worry. It will be done.

@@2ndcomingofFritz This is something of a theme on the US extreme Right. Ten years ago their fetish was the Waffen-SS. Today it is the all-white RLI. The White kid who massacred Black churchgoers had a Rhodesian flag sewn on his camouflage. There are videos about the "Rhodesian" FAL rifle and about Rhodesian "brushstroke" camouflage. (I never heard anyone refer to "brushstroke" camouflage out there.) They are often inventing a Rhodesia that never existed to fit with their own existing prejudices. Materially Zimbabweans might well have been better off under Rhodesian rule today, but under Rhodesia the 95% of the population who are Black would still have no prospect of social and political betterment, so they would still have widely opposed it.

Both the Commies and the Rhodesians had a sort of charm about them, which is why teenagers who are desperate to seem cool and be accepted by others gravitate towards them. Unfortunately, fighting for freedom against oppression isn't always as charming and endearing as the entities that they fight.
