Being Bulgarian born after the change has already happened in my country and in USSR as well, I can only imagine the shock and utter desperation that millions of people, fellow slavs from the Eastern Block have sufferred. This song and the perfect video montage helps me to better understand and feel the dramatism of a world that was falling appart literally around them. Of course the young generations back then (my parents for example) were quite optimistic about this change, but 90s just brought crisis and crime - organised crime all over Eastern Europe. Some countries manged to come out of the perestroika stronger and with better quality of life for their people, like Poland and Hungary for example. Others like Russia suffered a lot, took a giant blow, lost territories and half of its population from the split of the USSR, but still manage to continue and stay relevant 30 years later. My country Bulgaria has lost 1/3 of the population that was living in the country before the change. It happened without a war, without a bloody revolution, without loosing any territories. People just left in persuit of happiness abroad. And now we are in EU but our infrastructure is continiously eroding, our industry is almost null, home security, education, healtcare are on the verge of collapse because of lack of qualified and motivated workforce in the country. Foreign agents have infiltrated all systems of the state and the government and work for their respective interest... Meanwhile the media ignores the facts and preach further integration in EU and NATO. Many people believe it, and many don't. The society is divided, we can't talk about it like civilized people any more. Everyone is picking sides but true dialogue is almost impossible, opinions radicalise. Before the perestroika there was only soviet/ socialistic propaganda allowed, now it is working in a similar way but in reverse, it is Euro-Atlantism and pro-Ukraism. Meanwhile hope for better, peaceful future for Bulgaria is slowly dying. Pessimism grows. And some people wonder how the soc. nostalgia is still strong...

Хочу рассказать одну историю. В августе 2002 г. у меня родился мой старший брат, однако он умер в 2003 г. не прожив и года, в больнице от тяжёлой формы гриппа. Ему даже не исполнилось 1 года. Сейчас когда смотрю на других у которых есть братья и я думаю что было бы если мой братик остался жив. Эту песню я ассоциировал всегда с ним. Надеюсь для него никогда не кончится лето.

I find it interesting that in the west bands like Scorpions made songs like Winds of Change, with a very naive perspective of the changes that were happening in Eastern Europe. While instead bands like Kino were telling how actually things were.

The Scorpions had a viewpoint from a post-imperial mostly stable, dependable, predictable western world, while Kino, DDT, Aquarium wrote their best songs in the 80's, in that period of the late Soviet empire when the empire lingered but nobody in it was really interested in keeping it alive, kind of waiting how it would all pan out, would it survive or transform or what, so the songs reflected that mix of hope and fears, desire for change and anxiety. I'd say, each band mirrored its surroundings.

This song suddenly had been recommended and felt a weird and sad connection to it though I'm not a slav or russian but Lebanese, a small middle eastern country since the same thing is currently happening to us (poverty, corruption, oligarchs...). First Kino song I ever listened to, truly an amazing band.

Я помню этот ужас в 90-е годы. В городе(!)люди садили очистки с ростками от картофеля, прямо у многоквартирных домов, чтобы хоть что-то поесть. Зимой отопление еле-еле, чтобы только не лопнули батареи в -30. Свет вырубался постоянно, сидели со свечками. Денег на работе не платили по полгода, пекла лепешки из муки и воды и пили чай из шиповника. Уже столько лет прошло, но до сих пор отвращение к шиповнику, стоит этот вкус поперёк горла.

Funny thing is, this wind of change was very much real and positive for most eastern europeans. Outside of Russia. There were some hard years, but for poles or romanians, things are going differently. Still, it's quite sad to see where the lack of public society, public accountability and trust in the future have put the russians themselves in.

I found this beautiful song just 5 days ago and now it lives free in my head! Reminds me of my hanging outs and "clubbing" in the alternative clubs during the 90s... And that voice

My father served as a radio operator for missile batteries in 1989-1992. He told me that during the collapse of the soviet union he had orders to fire at the city if things got out of hand. Many of the songs you've put out on your channel were popular back when he was still in Russia, many songs by Kino and Kaskad. This is one of his favourites.

Прибалтийских государств тоже никогда не было, был ливонский орден, и Литва. Казахстан - это не государство с одним народом, вообще-то, это смесь бывшей орды и русских. Как и Украина никогда не существовало как отдельное государство. Только страны Кавказа были раньше государствами. К вашим сведениям, территория Украины - это Польская земля в большинстве своем, а также земля Словакии, Румынии, и России. Так что Украина недалеко ушла от Польши, которую постоянно делили. Делят с нами Крым, мол мы подарили, что за бред? Мы не вам дарили, а Украинской ССР в составе нашего государства. I discovered this band through another band, Molchat Doma. I've always been attracted to the Slavic language, I don't know what attracts me to it...but I live in the past through the brutal architecture, which until I discovered it I called Soviet. I have always been attracted to military machines, maybe because of my father who served in the army, but somehow I feel that a part of me is attracted to the Russian sphere. Always the saddest thing that can happen is not the war itself, but the death of the innocent and the division of the people. As a rule, those who cause this escape unharmed. At least, that's what happened in Romania in 1989. I don't know how this music influences others, but to me it describes a dystopian, imaginary world from which escape is almost impossible, with a negative but pleasant air. It's a damn strange feeling! Greetings from Oradea, Romania

Salut. I'm also romanian myself, but I haven't experienced the revolution since I was born in 2007, Yes, At times I do feel like I'm attracted to this soviet-russian stuff, but I've grown to fondly like western tech (For example, The M1A2 Abrams). However, I do also like and adore the eastern vehicles/aircraft, Especially the MiG-31. And yes, I agree. A negative but in a way pleasant air and atmosphere. And war? It will always suck, for both sides.

I was 8 in 1998 (when first "Brat" movie was released), living in a small western siberian town (with population ~100k). That times were so ugly. Lack of money, lot of addicts and alcoholics everywhere. Sometimes there were no money even for a bus ticket or for new shoes. But that times were full of hope, and that was reasonable - life was going better every month and every year. Today here everything is opposite. Lot of goods, no lack of money, but have no hope at all.

Viendo y escuchando esta pieza maestra, quiero agregar dos comentarios: el primero, quien haya estado en esos años duros de la desaparición de la URSS, las sanciones actuales me parece que deben moverles a burlas y desprecio. Siento, quiero sentir, quizá de una forma muy parcial por mi amor al pueblo ruso y su país, que aquí están muchas claves del ser de un pueblo como el suyo. La otra cosa que quiero comentar es que he estado escuchando las canciones de Victor Tsoi y su grupo y creo que entendió muy bien la época que le tocó vivir. Y me parece que se fue muy pronto, ¿qué hubiera podido comentar de lo sucedido en los años siguientes? Su partida me recuerda, proporciones guardadas, a el mexicano Ro(ck)drigo González, mas o menos de la misma epoca que Tsoi, y que murió en 1985 en los sismos. Entendió muy bien el país y su tiempo, y a su manera, como Tsoi, no dio concesiones. Gracias por traernos esta pieza maestra 😈😈😈

Me temo que discrepo en cierta medida de usted. En los 80 la gente deseaba un cambio pero no la desaparición de su país en manos de una oligarquía super ladrona que se quedó con los activos del Estado, tal como lo evidencia la canción y sus imágenes. En los 90 y en el inicio de siglo la gente buscaba como sobrevivir al desmadre. Y ahora no la creo tan ingenua ni a las elites estúpidas como para pensar en el regreso de la URSS o en la gran Rusia 🇷🇺. Saben que en Occidente en el mejor de los casos los quieren como gatos y en el peor como esclavos, ¿para qué arriesgar lo ganado hasta hoy en la búsqueda de una farsa, como ya lo escribió el clásico? 😈😈😈

A time to remember, respect what Soviet did to the world...

The meaning of the lyrics might be confusing at the first glance, but the theme from my perspective centered around the narrator not making a choice to leave, and the feeling of dread slowly taking over him despite him trying to find normalcy, ultimately knowing that one day he has to face the music as he can’t run away no more (hence the phrase “summer is ending soon”). To have this song and кукушка in his last album almost sound like premonition. It’s as if Tsoi knows he will die soon, and has to come to face with his decisions, good or bad, made in his life. It’s so haunting once you understand the theme of the lyrics of his songs.

Might sound corny, but this song feels like your fighting for an uncertain future.

It wasn't just inflation or needing to work multiple jobs, it was hyperinflation (2000 percent in one year) and nationwide bankruptcies. Instead of step by step modernization they just opened the floodgates and drowned everyone. People lost all saving multiple times across the 90s. The chaos and drama is still unprocessed to this day.
