Brushless vs Brush controllers. The one he throws is for brushless motors they last longer. The one he uses is for Brushed motor, don’t last as long eventually need to be replaced.

I bought a $1400 e-scooter from Amazon and fortunately, it's working perfectly for the first 300 miles. However, there are no e-scooter repair places I can find in NYC if something eventually goes wrong. These Chinese e-scooters don't seem to follow any standards and there are no wiring tutorials available. I really wanted to upgrade my battery (48V 17.5AH currently) capacity for longer rides. 25 miles is tops using a Garmin GPS for accuracy and riding about 17 mph. I was hoping to get a battery (48V 23AH) that could give me around 30 miles range. I'm not looking for a higher top speed, just longer riding time. I thought I could find a shop that could easily handle such a simple upgrade, but not one shop does that sort of thing. It looks as though I'm going to have to do it myself. NYC and no e-scooter repair places. That's just crazy. If I knew that, I would have bought an e-scooter from MiniMotors or Voro in NYC and bought an e-scooter they could fix or upgrade. Oh, well. Live and learn. If I can get 1000 miles out of it, I'll take the loss and buy a better e-scooter if I can't upgrade it myself. I've been scouring all the controller tutorials to see if I can learn something about controller wiring. What a mess. It's nothing I'm looking forward to doing. I just want to ride and not tinker.

Usually if the controller supports reverse it will have designated wires

Yeah the last two wires, other than the green, black, red. Plug the two other from the throttle into power locks, switch the wires until your throttle powers on with the keyswitch in the on facing position.

Thanks for watching! I'm sure it's possible, it would depend on the type of motor used. The controller shown in the video is for a brushed motor.

Hi, Thanks for your video very helpful, however when you connect the batteries and motor to the controller you skip the process. Can you help me we’re I gone wrong. I have similar controller and throttle set up. Connected the red, green & black wires of the throttle to the derailleur controller similar to your video. Connected the yellow & white wire of the throttle to the power key of the controller. When I turn the key of the throttle the battery lights indicator is “on”. However when I twist the throttle the motor will not run. Connected the battery wire black to black of controller and battery red to red of controller. Yellow wire of controller to black wire of motor and blue wire of controller to red wire of motor. Twist the throttle motor not running however check the voltage coming out of the controller is 36.8 volts and also the same voltage when I twist the throttle and battery indicator lights are “on”. Haven't tried it, most rc speed controllers work differently than these. I wouldn't expect it to work unless you find a way to hookup a transmitter/receiver

If I add a controller that has a higher wattage then my motor, will it damage my motor. I am having trouble finding a 700W one for the 3 wheel scooter that I have and it does have reverse, 3 speed forward and alarm connections. the high speed is not working and all the wiring and switches check OK. I mean I've been running a 500w motor through a 1000w controller, the wattage rating on each controller Isn't what changes the power. That's all the motor. The controller just limits it's power capacity and using one that's rated higher than your motor will just unlock all of it's potential, and it doesn't increase from there. Now reverse, I have zero experience with just because I've only built 2 wheel scooters.

Not all speed controllers are the same, but I'll shoot my shot at helping you. Red black and green should all correspond with the same colors on the "derailleur" plug. The yellow and blue should hookup to "indicator light" plug. Lmk if this makes sense

Not sure, but there's definitely some info online. They always put many extra connectors and features on the controllers. What I do know is that they're optional to connect.

Should be labels on every speed controller for headlights and taillights. If not I'd recommend a better unit

They can't go past about 6 volts or so above 48, and no problem. But if you overvolt a motor it should work just fine as long as you don't overwork the brushes.

​@@dylanmoore1006 cool, I guess I can tell if the brushes are overworked by monitoring the heat? What do you think about that Harbor Freight soldering gun?... I find mine to be not too good ..barely works... Their older one put out a lot more heat., so much more heat that it use to melt the body of the gun, My soldering pens work better at just 80 and 60 watts. The power locks connector for the win.. after hooking it up it worked then kept cutting off then I switched batteries and all is well. cool channel worth subbing to. clear and concise. Shalom

@@GDMHificationranpitc yea the harbor freight ones overwork themselves and the tips burn off. I would recommend the soldering station so you have a sponge to clean the tip and flux. The stock motors only burn out from heat and not voltage, but running 36v should be okay...

Be careful on what you may think is 99ah, most 8ah batteries are at least 150$+ there are alot of fakes

Hey, i'm trying to figure out which wires on my controller are for the key switch. None of them are labeled, and the label on the controller itself is in chinese. To make matters more annoying, none of the wire colors match what is on my scooter or shown in your video. Even on the circuit board there's no markings. I figured i'd check the voltage between the pins of each of the connectors. I have found two connectors, which when plugged into the battery show 24V each between their pins. The rest show 0V. How do i find out which one is for the switch without ruining the controller? My motor, battery and throttle cables are already identified.

best bet would be to replace the controller, an unmarked controller is very easy to pop

All the new controllers only have two phase wires for the motor how do you hook up a 3-wire motor to a two-wire controller

So with replacing the controller should I get the exact same one from the company’s website or can I get it from anywhere

Try contacting the website first and if all else fails you should be able to use any universal controller with the same voltage/amp rating

If the scooter uses a brushless motor, it will need a brushless Speed controller. The motor on my scooter is an old brushed motor, and they aren't as efficient on battery life.

If there aren't any labels, I would contact the supplier to see which connector is the power lock. Jumping the wrong connector can blow the controller mosfets.

Hi Can you clear this up for me? I have 48v 1600w brushless scooter motor in my scooter, stock 48v 12ah 20v LI batt and crap no name controller What is the main component that powers this motor and can push it to the limit, is it the controller or the battery? The controller is just the motherboard for safety and throttle connectivity, the battery is the main source

It will work as normal, but recommend buying a variable throttle so that you would be able to control the speed, as with the stock throttle as soon as you twist it, the scooter would go flying up as the stock throttle is nothing more than a on and off switch for the throttle

No,controller has a minimum voltage to work

Bro I need help stat!!!!!!!! 1. When a controller says that it's rated "controller current" is for example 34 amps, does that mean your battery need to constantly provide 34 amps at all times for the controller to work? 2. If your motor is rated for say 48 volts does that mean your battery needs to have 48 volts for the whole system to work, or can I get away with a battery with less voltage? 3. vise versa, if the motor is rated for 48 volts and I put more voltage, is that motor going to overload? or perhaps the controller will over load? 4. Is a 2000 watt maximum motor for a bike a normal thing? becuae I see companies like Swytch bike have powerfull motors with only 250 volts and 12 amps maximum. I am super confused and I am trying to make an electric hub motor for my bike. If you have time please help. thank you and great video

My knowledge about ebike controllers is pretty basic so bare with me. The amperage is the max current the controller can handle I believe, could be wrong. Depends on what controller you have and how it's set to work, most of the time it won't work undervolted. The pre-built 48v speed controllers are set to shutt off around 42v reading the battery as dead. You can overvolt some hub motors up to 12v+ as long as you do a bit of researching. 2000w motors are great as long as you're buying from a legitimate source.

You'll need to replace the stock throttle, there are kits that come with it that fit the controller on amazon/ebay.

Question: I have a 1000 Ecotric Hammer, 48 Volt, I want to use a 52 volt battery with. Is there any reason why the 48 volt controller would be damaged by this?

Its possible to work since it isn't over 6 volts above 48, but its not guaranteed. I would give it a try since the controllers are only 25 bucks,

Only four wires are needed to get it going which include: Battery, throttle, keywire, and motor. Check that your throttle wires are matching colors. Check motor polatity, and battery life. If it still doesn't work there's a chance the controller has been blown from being connected to the battery incorrectly.

Can it burn out..if the battery poles are reversed..i have problem with my electric moped..I burned out my charger.. after that everything gone wrong..I changed the battery..but noting.. only the lights and blinkers work

Yes, it is very important to know that the positive and negative wires are direct to where the power is supposed to go, otherwise it was cause a short circuit and burn the controller. The battery and motor will be fine, but controller will need to be replaced

A couple questions are you using a brushless or brushed speed controller and motor? The one I'm using in the video is brushed, and if you use the wrong speed controller, it won't power the motor. 4 months later no one replied but I figured it out n got my scooter running again

Hey man was wondering if you could help me out ? I know you said the 1800w speed Controller is trash lol but thats what i ended up getting 🤷‍♂️ wish i saw this cideo before buying. Anyways, i am having trouble with the yellow and blue wires from throttle?

oh so the yellow and blue wires serve as your key/switch unit. You have to connect them to your throttle and switch the wires twice if you have problems the first time because if they are reverse connected it makes it where the throttle will show on while the key is off, thats if you have a throttle with a meter. You also have to make sure that the throttle wires are connected correctly or else it will show weird signs... if it still doesn't work chances are you could have popped the controller but thats only if you connect the battery incorrectly... @@dylanmoore1006 oh ok thanks for letting me know 👍 I do have another 48v throttle you know the one with the chrome ends and volt reader ? The red, green and black are connected but, not sure where the other 2 wires go? Really appreciate your help 🤛

I've now purchased four of them and all of them only have a yellow and a blue phase wire for the motor instead of three so what do you do in this case to hook it up

@timothybranson5050 It will need a brush(less) controller for the three wire motors. Brushed controllers are for the two wire motors. The one in my video is an older style brushed controller, only designed for 2 wires. I'm probably gonna make a video on how to wire a brushless controller soon. There are many others that need to know as well.

The lithium ion battery packs are a unique was to get extra range out your scooter/bike because they're way lighter and way more efficient than sla's. The range depends on the (Ah) rating that's listed with each battery. It's important NOT to cheap out on these batteries because chinese company's scam their advertising all the time. For instance the battery in this video was probably a 12ah, which would last a good 1.5 hrs per recharge. But ive ran across fake advertized ratings so theyre cheaper and arent the size (ah) advertized. So when you buy these batteries be ready to spend at least 300-500$ on a positive reviewed, name brand battery pack.

@sherwinsarmiento3970 It should work if it has at least three wires (Red green & blue). Sometimes the ground wire might be a different color.

Excuse me mate, what kind of motor is this and how many phase?

I was using the stock motor, however they aren't recommended at all for that voltage as it should match thr wattage as the controller

I don't know how to connect this device, on the accelerator with a contact key, this accelerator has 5 wires (On Throttle Socket: Green, Black and Red) (separator: 2 wires; Yellow and blue.) This throttle has a motorcycle key and battery indicator. on the brush controller there is a white socket written: (Derailleur) in the colors green red and preto. I already know it's the accelerator but what about the two yellow and blue wires???? where can i plug it in?? we have two blue wires in a white socket written lock two blue wires written lock; what are these two wires for?

Connect those two wires to the "power lock" on your speed controller. This is your power switch, if the bike stays on when you plug it in, reverse the two wires, and it's ready to use

@@boasnovasonline8764 yes sir, the blue and yellow are coming from your throttle correct? Connect those two to power lock. Should be red to blue, and then yellow to the other wire. Your keyswitch should turn on the unit.

If i add 48v to a 36v hub motor would i harm my controller or motor?

You would need a "hall sensor" speed controller which is slightly different. Once you hook it up to one of those it works perfectly fine but you need to do a bit of custom fitting to put the hub motor on

Sometimes one can fail before the other, from my experience usually the motor overheats first. There is no noise but you will smell the motor overheating. It can hold full throttle for a minute or two. These motors like to stay at 36v

@milolim48 I sold the scooter, but when I had it I got around 15 miles every charge. You can charge the battery without the controller if you need to. Larger battery packs extend range

hey man, i just upgraded my motor and controller to a brushless one (48v 1800w) and my key switch just stopped working any ideas on how to fix it?

Check over all connections and search for any exposed wires. Any exposed wires will be the vulnerable to arching or corrupting the controller for good. Sucks when this happens best bet is to use a multimeter and test your battery it should read at least 49-50 volts. Anything between 48-52 should be healthy

@@dylanmoore1006 got the electric lock working just switched around the wires now the only problem is that the motor wont turn and i have heard that i need a Three speed switch so i have ordered that now im just waiting

@@krissf684 Anytime. but I think the reason it won't work rn is because you have to upgrade your battery. Running a 36v on a 48v controller will trick the controller into thinking the battery is dead. I never had to order any special switches all you need is matching voltage to the controller amd you should be good to go. Remember to grab a new charger too you'll need it.

24v battery packs can be difficult to find on Amazon I could go on aliexpress and see if they have any 24v rated batteries at least 8ah

From where did you get the throttle? And how much was it. I’m trying to get into modding my razor scooter and I was wondering if I change my controller to 48v and 1000w and I want to get the most out of it so I have to change my motor and batteries as well? I have a low budget btw. Thank you!

@@connor9801 I lucked out on one from Ebay for 3 on a bid and it was a honeycare 48v 2.5 amp charger... most cost around 35 to 40

you know you can just solder on the correct connectors right? Or just solder the wires directly? you absolutely do NOT need to buy a controller with identical connectors.Youre very much limiting the amount of products you can use.
