There is feature in HD Fury PS3 version that totally blow out my mind, you can play yout mp3 file in game and you will see graphic equalized of the music track pulsing all around the race track. I used HD Fury as my music reader for years.

I started playing the Wipeout franchise since Wipeout Pure, and I have to say that I love the games, but I think that my favourite one is the Omega Collection, because the fact that they remastered 3 games into one was a really good idea, and also, I think that they have used correctly the potential of the PS4.

Wipeout 2048 on Omega Collection is so, so good! It's well up there with the best. I felt Pulse had too much filler and stuff I didn't want to do.

I actually bought a Europe-only PS2 copy of Wipeout Pulse and a SwapMagic disc just because of how much I loved playing Pure at a friend's house.

Wipeout 2097 and Wipeout 64 are my two favorites. I think of Wipeout 64 as 2097 part 2, they look, play and feel so similar to me.

I really loved the sound design for 2048 though, especially the sound of the ships and cannons

2097 was the first one I owned and has always been my favourite so glad the awesome cover art caught my eye

The first Wipeout is at least an A for me as this was the game that made me fall in love with Wipeout. Wipeout 3 is my absolute favourite with Fusion being the worst for me

Having played the original Wipeout for quite a while, when i played 2097, i lowkey felt the art style was a bit more dark and gritty, maybe because of the particle effects esp on Gare d' Europa and Spilskinanke, but other than that, this is a pretty accurate list, in my opinion. Maybe having the 1st game in d is a bit harsh, but its probably my nostalgia for it.

I love this haha! Always great fun to just sit down and discuss the game series we’ve been dedicated too. It’s just like when we sat down and discussed WipEout as a whole on a stream together recently. It was awesome! I would love to see more discussions on this, that’s for sure! In fact, even join in ^^ ☺️

@@Snakenator_WZ Largely, I agree with your list, although what I'd do is; Fusion: Low C tier. This despite the fact that it had a couple of my all-time favorite tracks (Vohl Square and Alca Vexus, almost up there with Spilskinanke and Manor Top) and that I actually... dear god... love Tigron as a team and consider them a worthy follow-on to or "expansion" to the Qirex concept. The reasons being, firstly the physics were atrocious, coming off of the beautiful "floaty" craft handling of my beloved Wip3out; Secondly, the design team did a poor-ass job in general and while the track- and story design did manage here and there to capture something of the more pastiche-y PoMo "downbeat" futuristic concept, the craft and weapons design was an almost total failure at carrying on the more hard-edged neon future get that is core to the Wipeout image; Thirdly, I love craft balance, and feel that it is utterly essential not just to PvP but also to SP experience and style. And while I am also a little bit of a Piranha fanboy, and had no trouble dealing with the sharpness of the Swiftkiller's handling even maxed out, well... I quite often switched over to Xios or Tigron - or even G-Tech - just to get a little more "feel" and "resistance" up in Phantom, what with the already numb way the ships handled... Pure: Low A tier, right below 2097. It was a stylistically bullseye return to form for the series. Yes, Pulse did it still better, but you have to give credit. The design was bang on, the soundtrack was not as high-name as some earlier but certainly qualitatively there... Plus pure also had the upside of portability and being able to be accessed and played right where you needed it, e.g. on a dull train commute to work. And, it also features the Tigron Bull-667... P.S: The Qirex F5000 is the prettiest and most pleasantly handling ship in the entire series, and anyone who disagrees is bad and should feel bad. P.P.S: There is no track called "Temtesh Bay." Similarly to Star Wars episodes 7-9, it does not exist. There _especially_ isn't any Medium Length/2nd Variation of this track. And if anyone claims otherwise - or God forbid, insist on playing it or putting it into any tournament rotation or future games - then the only remedy is sadly to be found with a flamethrower.

You also forgot to mention that you can add your own music in Wipeout HD/Fury, plus it works with zone!

True. Listening Sokyuu no Fanfare and Crossing Field while playing ZONE or ZONE BATTLE mode also fits perfectly on HD/Fury and Omega Collection.

I got the PS3 version of HD Fury the other day (I don't have a PS4 and don't plan on buying one) and it blows my mind how good the game looks on that console. Games on PS3 often struggle to keep 1080p resolution and 60fps yet this game, which has better graphics than a lot of PS3 games that struggle, is maintaining 1080p 60fps without breaking a sweat. It's also a really fun game too. I love the track design, the weapons are fun to use, and the ships feel nice and snappy to control. Definitely worth the 13 dollars it cost to pick up, even if there's a better version out there (I ain't spending 200+ dollars just to play Omega Collection lol). I'm new to the series after playing BallisticNG finally convinced me to give Wipeout a shot. I always thought I wouldn't like it as much as F-Zero due to the slower speeds, but Wipeout's handling model is really fun to learn how to play with, and the sense of speed, while still not as high as F-Zero GX or Redout 2, is still there at higher classes. I've only played three of them, 3SE on an emulator, Pure on PSP, and HD Fury on PS3. 3SE feels almost identical to BallisticNG, or rather the other way around, so it feels fantastic. It's also just got an incredibly eclectic sense of style with its graphic design. That game has aged so well visually. I've already said what I wanted to about HD Fury. For Pure though, I kinda agree that the weird stop-and-start feeling is there. I also find the AI to be kinda cheap. Boost starts basically mean nothing because you will spend the first lap trying to catch up to them no matter what. The amount of speed you lose when getting hit by weapons is obnoxious too. It's definitely least favorite of the ones I've tried but it's still not bad necessarily, especially not for the 5 bucks I paid for it. I am gonna try to pick up Pulse though. Having what is essentially pre-HD Fury on something I can take to work to play on breaks sounds amazing.

PS2 Pulse deserves recognition IMHO. It's got all the PSP dlc on disc, and about 150 extra challenges.

Love this!! Was hoping someone would do a wipeout tier list!! I've only played up until Pulse sadly :( I played fusion more than the others and experimented most on that one so I dare put that one S tier. Wipeout 3 also S tier but my god it's lengthy

I'm really late to the party here, and I know you mentioned that you only had a Mac, but I would be very curious of what you'd think of BallisticNG. It's basically the original 3 wipeout games if they continued on to make wipeout 4 instead of fusion. It also has a bunch of extra features like different driving mechanics that mimic modern wipeout's weapon absorbsion, but the main campaign has driving mechanics akin to wipeout 3.

I completely agree, also the "Pulse" post effects are lacking on the remasters and look gorgeous on a psp emulator in HD. But the first Wipeout is not that bad

Sony killed WipeOut 2048 when they closed Studio Liverpool/Pygnosis. apparently they were in the middle of cooking up patches that would've added some of the deleted content alongside some new stuff

Honestly, that was a great video, very interesting to hear about your opinion regarding the different games of the franchise. If you want to do more of this kind, be my guest. Personally, I would have put Pure on S tiers (as you pointed out, there's a huge fanbase for this game) but your opinion makes a lot of sense, I see what you mean about the start/stop effect, that was indeed annoying and broke the flow of the game. Still, that was genuinely the only downside it had, for me personally and it didn't affected me as much as it did for you. This game reestablished my hype for the franchise which kinda diminished a bit with the previous episodes (because yes, I've actually played the first Wipeout when it came out, I'm an old timer on this game lol). Also, absolutely agree with Pulse being on S tiers, that game was astonishing. The rest of the list is pretty much as I would have put it too. The only exeptions being HD Fury and 2046 (Omega collection's version because I've never played the original) both on A, for me. There's a little something that makes me love Pulse/Pure better than HD fury, I couldn't even put my finger on it. I think it's the general atmosphere of the game. I hope we'll see a new Wipeout in the future. There's a lot of potential with nowdays technology for the online play and while the player base isn't the biggest ever, we tend to be very passionate about it which is a good start to make a popular game.

Honestly the more I think about it, the more I believe I was too harsh on Pure. I gave it a lot of praise and as you said, the acceleration issue is the game's only flaw. In hindsight I will now rank Pure as low A rank instead of B tier. I do believe its an excellent game, sadly I just don't enjoy it as much as others. Thanks for sharing your opinion! Also yes I'm hoping for a brand new game in the future ^^

I like every single wipeout. Wipeout Pulse on PPSSPP in high resolution and rock solid 60fps played with controller is pure perfect. Also Pure with 60 fps fix cheat on PPSSPP is so great. But again i love every single game in the series.

Awesome video BTW you forgot one game... *WipEout Rush* . But don't put it in D tier, not even E tier.... Put it in "G-Tech" tier.

I know most people don't get that reference. But I do and thought it was very clever. In the UK, there is a brand of TV sold vacuum cleaners branded gtech, and it always reminds me of the same thing.

All WipEout games should deserve to get at least A tier, with WipEout 2097, 3, and HD and 2048 all in S TIER.

Pulse was my first Wipeout game, because I was a big PSP gamer back then, and boy it was the most futuristic game I've ever played. Cyberpunk wishes it looked like it. The art style was really breathtaking especially for the platform it was on, and the tracks really pushed the skill limits. No opinion on the OST, since I just muted it all and replaced it with Deftones' White Pony at the time. Nowadays I would probably have Sewerslvt or Cristoph Babalon on the background instead

Wipeout 3 unlocks are actually not as bad as stated in vid. You start with the first 3 speed classes available, and the first 4 teams and tracks available in each speed class. To unlock the next team, you need a medal [any color] with each team available. For the next team, you need two medals with the previous unlocked team, and so on. For tracks, you need a medal in each track available. For the next track, you need two medals on the previous unlocked track and so on. To unlock the final speed class phantom, you need to fully unlock the track/team grid of rapier. To unlock a prototype track you need to fully medal out a grid in its respective speed class.

I actually prefer 2048 to hd and fury in the OC, i dont find the team balance that big of an issue, love the yellow and green pads separation, gameplays feels nicer than HD even. Never played the vita version but not having racebox would really be a shame tbh.

Cool to hear someone's opinion on all these games that I love so much. I agree with a lot of your points too, but for me WipEout 2048 is up there with Pulse and HD, the handling in it is the most fun I've had with a WipEout game, and the sound design is SOO good. LOVE those distorted F1 engines, and I'm so sad they changed the sounds in Omega Collection (for the worse!) I've been playing since the very first game on the PS1, and think 2048 the best in the series. A beautiful swansong for London Studio.

"nobody likes Outpost 7 or Gemini Dam" Wrong, they're the best tracks! Especially Gemini Dam Black, maybe my favourite in the entire series. You got the most important ranking right (Pulse at the top) and justified your choices, but I'd move a few. WipEout has a certain purity about it that I like, no weapon damage and the punishing collision detection (although it's over the top) puts the focus on clean racing, and the ship physics are good, so I'd bump it up a tier or two. Wip3out down a tier just because hyperthrust ruins everything. It's great aside from that and the unlock system you mentioned. Fusion down a tier. Even though it's a good game, it's a bad WipEout game. I quite enjoyed the tracks though, some mad ideas in there. Pure up a tier despite its flaws. So many great tracks, and the unique low-grip low-acceleration physics so you have to find lines that maintain the most momentum (speed pads become much more important). Yeah, absorbing weapons is a big upgrade from the pitlane! HD Fury down a couple of tiers, despite many similarities to Pulse. I'm not sure what they did to the physics compared to Pulse, but I don't get on with the bouncy feel as much. I think they went a bit far with the flashy graphics on some tracks and I find it a distraction from the ships, walls, and weapons. I can't really agree about the weapon balance, getting hit causes massive speed loss as well as damage, and combined with the sticky walls from Pulse (except worse), it's too easy for an online race to be decided by the weapons lottery. Also, no backquakes or custom lobby naming like we had in Pulse.

I really liked Pure, but after playing Pulse, something felt off with the handling, ships felt too heavy. Pure has a better presentation than Pulse and tracks look more different, but gameplay wise, Pulse wins. Also a thing i disliked with Pure is the DLCs. They put ugly ships and tracks in there and we can't remove them from the bot ships. Some DLC tracks were awesome though, and Tigron was here too. I also didn't understand why Qirex and Goteki were like that, completely out of what the teams represent. I'm glad they gave them honours back again in later games.

9:46 I'm not sure I quite remember this the same. From my recollection in Wip3out, the first four teams (FEISAR, Goteki 45, Auricom & Piranha) are unlocked at the beginning of the game, as are the first three speed classes (Vector, Venom & Rapier) and the first four tracks in each league. You don't quite need to do everything in the prescribed order until you've used the 4 starter craft in each speed class and scored a medal on at least one track - then it's a matter of using each new craft as you unlock them (in the order Qirex, AG-Systems, Assegai & Icaras). Then once you've done all that do you unlock Phantom class. Still quite the repetitive loop, but with a bit of flexibility. I seem to remember that the way I went about unlocking content in Wip3out after a point was to do the first race in each league (Porto Kora & Talon's Reach) with each ship as I unlocked them in each speed class. Next, I would take the FEISAR craft through the process of unlocking every track, since doing that with the FEISAR was the hardest thing in the game owing to it being the slowest craft in the game. That way, I then had all the content, and didn't need to worry about potentially not making the checkpoints - I didn't even need Hyperthrust with any of the other teams.

Okay, I'm off to buy Wipeout Pulse, I've heard others say great things about it and I need more PSP games. Tier list on your favourite weapons in the series?

My first place is the pure and pulse, i really like the lots of dlcs and the graphics arent really that bad, also love the pulse ship design! Pure was actually the first video game i played! The second place is omega collection! And the third 2048, and fourth hd fury!

Kinda late to the party but, you can probably play the PSP games with PPSSPP emulator on your phone and use a good bluetooth controller (sony or xbox or whatever). this would allow you to play Pure and it's DLCs, and do it on the go, the way it was meant to be played!! you definitely should. the new ships and whacky art style of the new tracks are awesome!

PS2 version probably tried to copy F-Zero X, since in that game the crafts are also much less floaty than PS1 Wipeout and glued to the road.

I'd have to agree with you actually. Citta Nuova is a pain in the arse and really exacerbates my dislike for the weak acceleration in pure. Also yes please join in!!

i dunno if you will respond but,i really really like wipeout omega collection and I'm currently on my grind to plat it(the 0.1% completion sure is intimidating but i think I can do it),but might take a while as I'm not nearly as good as you are lol but either way, HD/fury and 2048 are the only ones I played as they are in omega collection,what game do you recommend i play next after I plat omega?

You need to play the ntsc versions for the older games, they play MUCH smoother, and the physics, specifically 2097 vs XL are very different

How popular is the AG Racer genre? I’m in school right now studying Unity development. I wanna make an AG Racer, but I’d also like to sell copies. Obviously shooters and RPGs are more popular, but what about compared to other niche genres like SHUMPs & Metroidvanias? I’m just curious how popular this niche genre is. 18:35 Have you ever time-trialed other ships in comparison to Triakis though? I very vividly remember getting crazy laptimes as Auricom, often a whole second up from Icaras and Triakis. And that's just from the default roster, I haven't seriously played Pure in a long while so extensive re-playing might reveal some of the DLC ships being even better still. In terms of ship balance, I generally find Pure a bit shoddy; the frontend stats have little correlation with in-game performance, to the point that Piranha is legitimately *slow* even without turning. 34:25 Having tested it myself (i really probably should edit together that footage some day...), the reason is that on A+ class, *every* ship's top speed is identical. Except Auricom Prototype, which feels like B class in comparison. Thus the ship that turns well and bleeds the least speed doing so, is the best time trial machine (so, AG-S Speed and maybe Agility). In A-class standard racing not all hope is lost though, as while FEISAR Prototype is great, sometimes there's no reason *not* to snag a yellow pad and take some pot-shots - oh, the fond memories I have of Auricom Fighter in WOC A-class lobbies

I definitely agree with the two S ranked games. The amount of creativity such as creating custom paint jobs and a custom playlist made pulse golden. I would've put the original up to at least B.. and pure as another A

@@Snakenator_WZ well sir, we can't forget that the original laid the groundwork for the entire series. Plus I was a huge fan of it's respective atmosphere. Very little was yet explained, and the game had way more mystique. The physics were a pain in the ass, but would older technology not be more of a pain in the ass? Therefore the earlier times were challenging in their own way, much like real life 😉

22:46 I think WipEout 3 had the first leech beam. It wasn't exactly a beam but the energy drain was definitely there. The Leech Beam was most likely a buffed Energy Drain with the ship being drained slightly losing control

I had this idea before. The only reason on why I didn't do it is because I have not played most of the games.

I never talked or saw any videos about this until now, but Pulse on PSP was always my favorite. Guess it wasn't just me. 😅

Nice video but for Wipeout 2048 I will have to disagree the game is great if you bought the dlcs you will have the same content of both hd and fury which means basically the same content as the omega collection. The only thing missing is the sound track I will personally rank it as a lower A tier.

And I've subscribed too ;)

What a real dealbreaker for me with Pure too is that it is locked to 30 FPS. I'm used to playing BallisticNG on 240Hz & FPS, and going back to 30 is just not very pleasant.

No it wasn't. It ran 60fps but drops a bit when there's explosions and stuff. But the zone mode is 30fps tho. Btw u can use cheats to run the at 60 all the time

I actually liked the vibe of 2048 and it's soundtracks, but yeah some of it's soundtracks are meh •_• just like omega collection. But I still like Invaders Must Die (Liam H Re'amped Version) and Breezeblock. Sadly to know that 2048 is rushed for the game release. I can agree about pulse, and the tracks I really hate is Platinum Rush and Basilco, black and white run. Pulse is really good on it's style of interface, gameplay and it's vibe. The soundtracks matches with the style of the game pretty well, but I don't personally like some of it's soundtracks based on it's sound.

I would put WipeOut OG at S tier purely for the song Cairodrome 😁 I had this on my Sega Saturn, and despite possibly being the worst way to play the game, I put so many hours into this game that I could clock the game from start to finish without touching the side of a track. I tried to go back to it on my PS3 and damn do I suck at it now.

I agree with the vast majority here!

My list: WipEout - B - The original had a great soundtrack by in house musician Cold Storage, with Orbital and leftfield. It had good physics but felt unpolished. Wipeout 2097 - S - 2097 by far has the best physics engine for the craft. They got it perfect. The soundtrack was also good. It was also the first wipeout to introduce damage, shield energy, autopilot, plasma bolt. For me, this was undoubtably the best game in the entire series. Wip3out - A - Wip3out was my childhood favorite. I admired the professionalism of the game. It was what made wipeout a semi plausible reality for me. There were no stupidly large explosions, or bouncing missiles, or absorbing weapons for shield energy nonsense. No ridiculous barrel rolls, and the soundtrack was great. I loved the visual design of this game, even down to the menu. I appreciated the way that the craft didn't explode, but instead failed in a more realistic way, rolling to one side and falling to the ground as the AG systems fail. Wipeout Fusion - D - Wipeout Fusion was a good game. But this was the point where it started to go downhill for me. I liked the wide variety of weapons available, and some of the new features. But they simplified the handling of the craft. There was no longer a floaty feeling, instead being locked at a certain height from the track. It felt like F Zero at times... It was that bad. It had some good music though. I didn't like the introduction of the loops, and mag-lock. I wasn't a fan of the ship upgrade, and instead preferred the previous speed class system. Wipeout Pure - C Wipeout Pulse - C - Wipeout Pure and Pulse essentially felt like the same game to me. They were better than Fusion. But can't compare to the physics of Wipeout 2097 and wip3out. The soundtracks for these games became very generic and intolerable for me. The introduction of barrel rolls, bouncing missiles, and city block sized explosions didn't sit well with me either. Wipeout HD - C - Wipeout HD/Omega was better again. But still kept too much of the childish aspects of the previous PSP releases. - Absorbing weapons instead of a dedicated pit lane, barrel rolls, loops, bouncing missiles, etc. However, I still hated the soundtrack for these games. I never played 2048, or 64.

I love 2097, and got a psx for it (saturn owner at the time) but for me the podium would be 2048/hd-fury/3SE. As you said 2048 is a bit lacking in balance and content, it could have been SO much more…

im playing through pure right now after recently buying a psp for the first time and the game feels really artificial compared to omega collection. The ai is insanely difficult lap one. you can get a perfect speed boost and pass everyone but they all zoom past you no matter what their stats. Then later in the race no matter your own stats you will gradually pass people as long as you don't get hit. Maybe this is in every game ane is just how it is but i notice it alot more in pure.

Wipeout 2048 - A or B easily.

The original Wipeout is S-Tier for the soundtrack alone.

Next time ships tier list pls. 2048 and HD

Good list but my only qualm was having Fusion on B. That game was terrible. The ships were terrible the gameplay was terrible. Unlike the other games there was no bouncy floating effect it deserves a D. The first one deserves to be on C only because when you hit a wall you come to a complete stop but it’s WAY better than Fusion.

WTF, re:WO64, yeh analog stick great, but on PS you can use a neGcon ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You probably never played the N64 version until during the making of this video... You didn't had a lot of things to say compared to the rest of the games ... And the fact that you've put fusion above 64 is just laughable because fusion is considered one of the most average games of the franchise
