You should be a YouTuber. (or Artist/Creator)

Ойындар

There’s never been a better time to become a KZreadr, an artist, a musician, a writer, or whatever type of creative you want to be.
Let's talk about why that is, and hopefully, if you’ve ever thought to yourself “man, I’d love to be a KZreadr (or artist, or musician or whatever it is), but I just can’t do it-I don’t have what it takes, the algorithm sucks, or nobody cares about what I want to make”--I can show you that things aren’t as bad as they seem, and I think you should do it.
You should be a KZreadr, or a creator of whatever kind, if that’s what you want to do, even if it’s really hard and it sucks for a while. And I’m gonna back that up by telling you a little bit about me, and my story when it comes to KZread and all that, and all the things I’ve learned from people smarter than me.

The follow-up video is here!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/nnqE18Oaacquj84.htmlsi=k84Fm3juwan973ai To clarify, it's not that I believe we should all be starving artists and walk around being pretentious about our creations. I'll still be making compromises with what I make in order to monetize (for example, a few of you will notice ads even in this video--I tried to set them so they would have rather cheeky timing, see if you can catch what I did😉) My message here is really about striking the balance, so that both our hunger to create and our hunger for food can be satisfied

This was incredibly refreshing. I'm a small creator, and have noticed alot of the 'Pyramid scheme' stuff you describe towards the beginning of the video. I've noticed on alot of 'Small creator' communities, alot of this stuff seeps in. Alot of people are looking for community, and when the community is built on rubbing your small success in other people's faces. You're cool man. Would LOVE to talk to you about this kind of stuff :)

My opinion may differ from many or this creator. It's rough economically/prosperity wise but even more rough if you are only dead-set on a job in media/content. To add on to the "money as a motivator" aspect..people will come off as a lot more authentic if they aren't as stressed with youtube/whatever being their only source of income to pay the bills. If that's all you want to eventually do, realistically get there by supplementing with a normie job..and then break away when you can in a risk-calculated way (get more financially savvy). If you get to that point, see how far you can ride it out and try to keep your expenses in control. I feel like you'll have more success with a stable base underneath you. Of course there are people who can take off immediately but I would say there's tons of skills from different jobs you can port over to content creation. Ultimately, whatever avenue you take, be okay with knowing it will still be a "job" and takes work. Keep striving for a balanced life that affords you time to make your dreams a reality while accepting the realities of life and honoring your mental and physical health. Get good a managing your projects and keep them feeling fun and liberating with enough "small wins" to keep you going. Often times there's a lot of workflow and organizational tedium that will roadblock you but try to visualize your progress and keep framing your progress as a reward and you'll surprise yourself. Progress not perfection, keep outdoing yourself and have fun with the process and journey more than anything else.

Yeah, some communities have become completely uninspired messes recently. I used to watch minecraft videos a few years back, and most of them were relatively unique. Nowadays, it seems that the current ‘trending’ creators are all carbon copies of eachother. Legit all of them use the same background music, the same ‘awkward, oops silly me’ humor, the same sound effects, the same editing style, etc. It’s so boring! And it’s not like they’re following the same trend, thus making similar content; their videos are legit exactly the same, except for the sound of their voices.

22:27 the part where you said "art is society" touched something within me. it was a belief i resonated strongly with in the past but i lost touch with it as i grew. i stopped believing in art, started convincing myself that i was supposed to do other things that were more "important". i started seeing and critiquing the things i've created by looking at them on the surface level, just as products, started to dismiss my old art as something small i used to do to "pass time". but after watching this, it made me remember how art made me feel. not just creating, but also witnessing and experiencing others' works, and how it had the power to shake me to my core. that strength and connection that i felt which came with the experience of art. thank you for rekindling something within me again.

As someone who grew up with KZread in the early 2010's, this feels different. Back then, there were little to not rules and no one knew what the fuck they were doing. Then things changed slowly after Google bought it. After a while, things became more corporate and kinda screwed everyone over. Now, people are starting to break free of that and are starting to make new content they enjoy while still under threat of that system. With all the resources we have now, a lot of the good videos can really stand out in quality as well! We're trying to grow a garden in a wasteland, and hopefully this will lead to a Renaissance.

When you spoke about dharma and one’s calling in life, it really struck a chord with me. Ever since I was about 10 years old, I wanted to be like the creators of KZread’s golden years and be able to make other people laugh & smile, just like they did for me. I wanted to be able to share my love for my favorite games and art with others. For one reason or another, -either lack of time, money or knowledge, -I shelved that passion and desire to create to focus on other “more important”but less fulfilling things in my adolescence through my early 20’s. In the past two years, I’ve been streaming as a VTuber, building a small community. I’ve even tried learning how to edit recently in my small amount of spare time, which is something I find I love. While I’m nowhere near “successful” or even in a place to be able to leave my day job to be able to able to pursue this full time, content creation something that’s genuinely changed my life for the better, and it’s something I genuinely feel called to. I can’t say this enough - thank you for making & posting this video. It’s something I really needed to hear in this period of my life, and this video is really motivating for someone just starting their journey 🩷

Honestly that was the most inspiring video i have ever watched in YEARS, so many famous creators talking about motivation on yt, but instead of actually helping, all they do is making me feel even more stressed and depressed, cuz it is all about how to get money and be selfish nowdays. The only thing that can actually make us happy is feeling useful by creating art, make poeple laugh, culture or making ur dreams come true, without caring how huge is ur comunity, but caring only about what comunity you draw to ur creations.Even if its only one person. My favourite phrase from the bible is " The present has enough problems on its own, u dont need to put up with the problems that MIGHT come in the future". I've been working as a volunteer writer at a youth magazine for the past two months and last week was the first time I produced an article that cringed me out quite severely. I know I have lots to improve in my craft (I'm a fiction writer by night with stories published across literary magazines, but let me tell you, these two areas of writing couldn't be farther from each other, and I'm clearly better in fiction), and I think I just needed this little bit of push toward embracing my mistake and wanting to get better instead of hiding my poorly executed article. And yes! Today (any day) is the best day to start going after your dreams and innermost callings. I hope many people will realise this and we'll be able to make a society where people are happy in the things they do

I only expected a handful of views when I started recording my thoughts about Daggerfall, but I had the feeling of needing to "get this off my chest" and share my thoughts with whoever would listen. Seems like being passionate is half the battle. Incidentally, my real passion is writing, but my faith in myself on this front has diminished as my time gets swallowed up by my day job and now content creation. So in a way this video was inspirational for me as well, as I've come to realize just how many people are out there waiting for your passion project to make its way to them. Also, it was really cool to watch someone else simply play a video game while talking about something on their mind. There's something very calming and conversational about it. Thanks again for the mention, best wishes to you.

I'm not sure when I lost my drive to keep going, but watching your video made me realize that I was too worried about what other creators were doing. Somewhere along my path, I started paying way too much attention to metrics and trends, forgetting why I was doing it all. Thank you so much for being yourself and putting out this video. It has definitely reignited the fire to get back to it. Also new sub unlocked and bell notification turned to all.

I despise that saying with a passion because it doesn't encourage learning it's basically another way of saying "oh you're doing it wrong you have to do it like this" blah blah blah like how tf am I supposed to know the """"""smart"""""" way without learning it first? You have to work hard before you can work smart. Very good video, I'm glad we're collectively trying to change the way content is created and consumed back to the glory days of the internet.

However after sitting through this video and hearing your message, it really resonated with me, and kinda revitalized something that died in me a while ago. My love for writing fiction. Since I was young I’ve wanted to craft stories with characters that people can relate to and enjoy. I want to put out beautiful messages with healing from grief, found family, and touch on the darker topics of loneliness and other various subjects that people deal with on a day to day basis. After watching your video I feel inspired to try writing it again. I know that like you said I may never reach that point of that fame, but I shouldn’t be doing it for that anyways. I should be doing it for me and for those that will enjoy the message. I appreciate this video, and hopefully I’ll come back and give an update on something I’ve written.

This video made me cry, I have been wanting to become a KZreadr ever since I was a kid but never had the opportunity or equipment to make the things I wanted to make, now that I am an adult with a computer and a brain I let my mind run wild, thank you so much for this video, it really has encouraged me to keep trying! Also, I wanted to add something about the "become successful fast" topic that a lot of people think about when it comes to making content: I do like that you mention culture being an important and impactful part of our recent world, but I feel like there's a lot of people who see content creation as a way out of living the "hard life." I have met countless amount of people that have told me that they want to "work in marketing to get easy money and live the luxurious life" that we see in media nowadays, and frankly -- although I ultimately respect their decision and perspective on why they would want to do that-- I think its a pathetic way to view life. The world has become such a huge oyster for the "rich man controls the world" mentality that we have forgotten what it means to enjoy our existence. I loved the example of the Runescape Infinite Money Glitch bullshit, because its true! People want all the luxuries and all the accolades that money brings, but would rather find the easiest way to get rich instead of enjoying the process and how good it feels to EARN what you work hard for, the money becomes their sole purpose in life and they forget to enjoy everything else. People forget the hardships and the process of success. It takes YEARS before you can reach an audience, my favorite example is Videogamedunkey, he started as a kid on Newgrounds making animations because he wanted to make art just like those people that he looked up to, he made voice overs, gameplay videos, edits, songs, things that he just finds silly and fun to him, and people loved that about him. It took him north of a decade to get to the position he is at, but the one thing that never changed for him was his passion for the things he made, and thats why his viewers still stick around, because not only do they enjoy the personality of videogamedunkey, but the effort and love he has for his craft. Your first video will most likely not get a million views, and if it does then you are a rare case! but for the rest of us who are climbing our way to the top, we will get there eventually. Rome wasn't built in a day, y'know...! With that being said, I'll take that advice for myself as well, and thank you Neat for this extra push that your video has given me personally, and I hope it gives others that push as well.

I had the idea years ago to do a podcast where I record gaming B-roll simultaneously while recording the audio but don't really talk about what's happening in the game. I never did it because I never knew what to talk about. My theoretical idea was to talk to friends for it, that way a conversation could be more natural, but I never got in a call with someone just to talk. I'd still like to make that, but the biggest issue is with having someone in that call because they only time I really have that chance is when I'm playing games with them, which necessitates talking about the game a lot, and at that point it just becomes the average Let's Play. I have started streaming again, though, and I've been enjoying it, it's just not quite the same idea - but maybe that idea doesn't have to happen. Or at least it doesn't have to be me. This kicks ass and is almost exactly what I was thinking.

Occasionally we'd talk about our favorite part or laugh at our fuckups, but regardless the conversations were always organic. Before we decided we had different plans after high school, I would say that once we were in college we would turn it into a youtube channel. I think this video is going to go into that playlist. Sure, I monetize my videos, but I've also made drastic changes because the money wasn't enough to keep making those videos. It was the incentive that I can express what I want, when I want, however I want, that kept me going. I don't really know who's going to see this comment, but I need to say this more for me than I do for you. This video couldn't have come at a better time because I've been putting this off. Deep down, I've felt scared about my own abilities as a creator. I'm a simple guy, just an artist obsessed with drawing my own little OCs and worlds. I'm also a massive Sonic nerd who likes video games. Going on a mini tangent, I have a massive dream to create a franchise of characters that people will love, as I have for the characters I liked growing up. I want to make this my actual job one day. I was feeling a little down, wondering if it was even possible today. I don't usually focus on the numbers on social media, as I mainly view it as a vanity metric. However, recently, as I look at my stuff, I slowly started comparing it to the types of stuff other artists made, and I started wondering if I was even good enough to make it myself. This video was a wake-up call for me, especially the monetization part. I don't want to say it gave me the motivation to do what I'm about to do next, as motivation is a very fickle muse, but it certainly helped give me clarity and a direction on what I need to do going forward. I don't know when, I don't know how long, I don't even know where to begin if I'm being honest, but I know one thing-I'm going to do the best I can. **Very** small time KZreadr here. This video really resonated with me. I work a regular full time day job, and I'm surrounded by people who enjoy it. But to me, it just pays the bills. Without it I'd be screwed but that's equally the same for my KZread hobby. If I wasn't spending every waking moment outside of my job working on this silly little hobby, I would feel like more of a failure than if I lost my job. Being creative is what gets me up in the morning. I too struggle to get up for anything else. Literally. I have over 15 work alarms. Aside from numerous hidden videos, I've released two long-form videos. One did scarely well (to me) and one flunked. It took a lot of reflection and reassurance from my friends to not tie the value of my art to the view count. And to actually consider my work as art to begin with. I've come to the conclusion that even if I never become super successful at this KZread thing, I'd much rather that than one day being an old man regretting I never tried to my fullest. Making videos and sharing my voice is absolutely my calling. Excellent video, Neat.

I've always had the idea of creating silly games or just dumb apps, and that idea is finally developing (slowly, but hey it's a start). How fitting that I got your video recommended just now. Maybe I should document my learning journey on KZread. Thanks for posting this!

man, this was so great to hear. the point about monetization going against creativity is something I notice all the time. over-editing and obvious retention/monetization tactics put me off so much. the thing that really keeps me engaged and interested in what someone has to say in a video is how passionate and interested they are in what they’re talking about. it’s easier to connect that way I’ve always felt most comfortable/at home with video games and the gaming community, and making videos is a great way to think more deeply about them and share that love/interest. I’m lucky enough to have a job I’m content with, but it’s nowhere in the same ballpark as where my passions lie, and that’s why I make videos on the side for fun. you’re absolutely right in everything you said here, and I really admire the way you pursued what you felt was your calling. keep up the passion man, it’s so refreshing to see this level of authenticity, and I wish you all the success you can find

I lost my mom last year and ever since then I’ve really lost my fear of looking stupid or whatever; there are so many more important things in life. I just wanna do what makes me happy. And making my vids makes me happy. So thank you for your positivity and encouragement 💕 You’re amazing!

I'm gonna be honest, seeing my favorite video game character of all time In the video makes this even more inspirational, I always looked up to sonic, even when he went downhill, I still looked up to him and appreciated how much joy he brought me. And I don't care which sonic it is, classic, boom, modern. Sonic is sonic to me. And sonic is the reason I got into art, which of course I started pretty rough, but I kept going and I found a style I was comfortable with. People may have different views on my art, but if I like it, I think that's all that matters.

I just have to say… you are EXACTLY where you are supposed to be. This is the first video I’ve seen from you and I immediately subscribed, before I was even half way through this video. My heart feels so incredibly full after watching this. I’m in the process of launching a new KZread channel & just got finished brainstorming & listing out titles/ ideas for my first 5 videos & decided to watch some KZread to wind down for the night. I can’t begin to describe how much I relate to everything you’ve said. I’ve been in the “cOnTeNt CrEaTiOn” space for awhile off an on (I was a Partnered Twitch Streamer for 5 years) & I got burned out on it and it’s BECAUSE of all that shit you talked about. I have been trying to “unlearn” or FIGHT all the noise from so many KZread “iNfLuEnCeR” Guru/ Rise and Grind 🤮🤮🤮 BULLSHIT people for so long… I feel like this video just unpeeled or chiseled off the last remaining layer of doubt I had around trusting my intuition & ignoring all the NOISE and pressure on how I should do & create things. I feel so free after watching this video & I am beyond inspired. You were ELOQUENTLY (YES ELOQUENTLY! I SAID IT! Wanna fight about it?!) able to express in words what I’ve been feeling for years now. I just want you to know this video was life changing for me & you made a difference IN MY LIFE! I see you and I thank you! KEEP BEING YOURSELF & following YOUR path. 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌💖💕 HALLAYLOOYER!

I really thought back to my start with creating stuff and how cringe it is, but I'm glad that I made it. Those crappy, low quality, nonsense videos were the catalyst for me learning how to speak my mind and share the things that I think are cool. I really hope this video does well. This was interesting! When I was younger, and had much more time, I tried my hand at making videos. It didn't last, my likes are ephemeral, but I've still kept at thinking of ideas and writing scripts without ever showing anyone. I kept at it weekly for a year - and that did serve a purpose; to commit to something for as long as I had - but now that I'm older and know that I CAN commit to things, I feel okay to try again. It's funny, Spider-Man is my favourite Marvel hero and I never considered the perspective that he's "still gotta deliver pizzas to pay his bills". Passion is not the absence of mundane and we do not all need to be tortured artists. Do what makes me happy. I'm gonna try.

You know, something that a lot of people don't talk about is that feeling when you know you want to make something but don't know *what* to make. I used to be a writer but nowadays- whether it's due to lack of practice, or time, or energy, or who knows what- I can't write anymore. Charles Bukowski's "So you want to be a writer?" has been on my mind rent free; but I've seen a few videos like this one over the past few weeks and the hope is coming back lol. Anyway, good vid, thanks dawg :)

I can't tell how this video is so relatable, I've been on KZread for years now and I totally agree with you. there's no "good" or "bad" moment to start on KZread or anywhere else, let's just remember that we have the chance to live in a society and in a time period where we are able to do what we like! So stop complaining about why we don't succeed or something. Not to show up or anything but my success on YT was due to some chance I had back in the day because I was doing a certain type of video at a certain period when it was getting popular, so I'm the counter example here. But even if I wasn't that popular or anything, it wouldn't have stopped me from doing videos. Sure though my channel would be probably a bit different, but with audience or no audience/ with monetisation or not, I never stopped producing the things I liked doing and now people are aknowledging it. Honestly, I wouldn't have expected ANY of this if I was like 8 years ago when I started my channel, my first intention was to videos that I could rewatch in like 10 or 20 years for nostalgia (that's the litteral thing that pushed me to create a yt channel), and I never thought I could go this far. Monetization allowed me to enter an animation school where I could go further in my dreams and so produce more videos, but if that had never happened, I would surely have done a normal life while doing videos for fun and I would have been happy doing it too. Anyway, that's an excellent video you got there (accompagned by a terrible Sonic gameplay haha 😂), but yeah I honestly think we need more authentic and sincere videos like this, this is what we miss in a place where everyone runs for money...

Thank you for this video. I have been working on building my youtube (more seriously) as a musician for the past few years. While it has proven to be a really difficult task, I am always trying to find a way to create the things I want first and foremost. I too have fallen prey to the “grindset mindset” in previous years. While my channel has not yet become “successful” by any means, I just keep hoping that the “the cream always rises to the top” mentality is the best way. At the end of the day, just make sure you’re having fun doing what you’re doing- and you’ll likely find… you’re already winning. ❤

I like your advice and definitely agree, ive from the very start only been making my videos because I love telling stories and want to animate. I’m trying to grow not because of trends but because I like what I’m doing and hope to attract people who also like what I’m doing. You said pick a thing you’ve wanted to do and come back afterwards and reply about it.
