Welcome to the genius of Wintersun. Jari, the singer, is the mastermind who writes and composes all their music. Some of the songs have over 200 tracks layered, just to give you an idea of how much effort he puts into his work. You'll likely get requests for Time from the same live session, but I'll suggest Death and the Healing, Winter Madness or Loneliness which are all brilliant in their own way.

On the album this song is from Jari composed, played, sung, mixed etc it all himself. Except drums. For drums he called Kai to do the composing and playing. And total tracks for some songs were in the area of 1300-1400 with almost 400 playing at the same time in peaks.

Well, the drummer and bassist are both in Nightwish so what did you expect :)

Are *now* in Nightwish. When former Nightwish drummer had to step back, he hand picked Kai as his successor. This band and these songs were not a bad entry on his CV.

Well, they certainly opened this 68 year-old into new musical directions (along with Devin Townsend). It took me four listens to this to stop trying to work out what was going on, and just sit back and enjoy. I've bought two of their albums.

Yes and to think that Jari is missing part of one lung and can still hold those notes is just amazing. I was also not a fan of harsh vocals until I stared listening to bands like Wintersun & Jinger.

You are correct. Jari is missing about 1/4 of his lungs. He lost it to tuberculosis when he was in the army.

I did not know that that is even more insane and explains his tone as well. I was wondering what was up but could not put my finger on it if she had Asthma or some other lung issue just years of hearing Angela can pick it out in the tone of Growls.

That's the face I made the 1st time I saw that video lol. My favourite is Land of Snow and Sorrow. Beautiful song.

The Wintersun Podcast which Jukka, Jari, Asim and Teemu each take turns hosting on KZread is awesome and they're all hilarious. Jari to Jukka about his Nightwish photo shoot (Jukka the bassist is now in Nightwish) "You wore high heels to be taller than Floor right" Jukka: "Sure I wore high heels" side eyes Jari. Teemu (dark hair) breaks and starts belly laughing. Jukka is very tall lol.

Thank you Jacqueline that you did this piece of art in music. As you said, and it was the first time I heard someone saying smth about the structure of this song, it was well and cleverly built up. Singer Jari is the one to compose these masterpieces of Wintersun. I did love your accurate comments, and it was so nice to watch as you were surprised of Jari´s vocals. Please do some more Wintersun, like "Time". Drummer Kai Hahto and the bass Jukka Koskinen are in Nightwish today. 🤘🇫🇮 Nightwish army Finland 🐻‍❄ Way to support musicians you care like Jaqui, is to buy their albums etc. Go to their concerts, buy their merchandise, join their fans, follow them on IG, subscribe to be their Patreons. Real prize to them is that, they will feel their work is appreciated, they have a will to continue their work, which is what most artists actually want!

The drummer here is Kai Hahto who replaced Jukka Nevalainen in Nightwish .. and the bassist is Jukka Koskinen who has replaced(?) Marko Heietala as a session musican .. also Nightwish

There's a reason why I have been obsessed with this song for 5 years. After that I just wanted to hear more and especially more different music. And now I hear it back after I haven't listeners to it for like a year. And I get these goosebumps and amazing emotional feeling again. Like yeah yhis will always be my nr 1 song no matter how my music taste changes

Jari Mäenpää is a storyteller, composer, nerd and showman-a dark troubadour with a guitar already in his teens. He was telling his epic musical stories already as the frontman of Ensiferum before forming Wintersun. The musicians who draw inspiration from classical compositions and Finnish nature, folklore and mythology have a lot to live up to, because of the likes ofJean Sibelius, who already took inspiration from those themes and composed Finnish masterpieces. When speaking about the creepy undertone, many of these bands have history in Black Metal. Nightwish Tuomas Holopainen's and Kai Hahto's Black Metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed (formed in 1992) even released some new material just recently.

What is Finnish for "You are carving fractal trails in my brain"? ... it probably translates to a "the moose rides an Etch-a-Sketch on the ice".... gotta love the Finnish language and the little -isms they create. Anyway Your face at about 16:35, the finally started to resolve that long melody line.... it was like your musical side was desperate to find something that would tie up the oft-divergent parts... .. and then they continue on. And yes, the soft 3-part vocal interlude in the middle is just magical... in that way that a Danny Elfmann tune can be magical. I felt like I've been in a snow-globe. I love your closing statement. An open mind can be sooo much more satisfied.

The drummer (Kai) joined Nightwish in 2015 and the bassist (Jukka) recently joined Nightwish to replace Marko. Who is that soaring female vocal in the background ???? One of the things I love in rock but we rarely hear is multi lead guitar lines intertwining. ight back to Lou Reed's White line intro, Baby Animals doubling leads, UTL incredible guitars and bass interlevered lines. I just love it. Another band of next level of musicans. Even their vocals are like madrigal intertwining in places. Just bloody awesome.

First: the tempo of this video is a little to slow; second: the Drummer is Kai Hahto, now the Nightwish-Drummer; third: the bassist is Jukka Koskinen, now the bass-player of the unknown finnish-metal-band Nightwish (replaces their former bassist Marko Hietala). Maybe you've heard of them...

Jari is in Nightwish now so what's gonna happen with Wintersun hopefully bring up a new composer/songwriter guitarist-vocalist where? Just Prog Metal lol so many styles they hit every song is new and fresh I like these guys because of Celtic Frost they similar very similar.
