The first winter storm front moves into the Cascade Mountains! Over a foot of fresh snow falls in the early season, blanketing my Transit Van in deep snow. Watch me camp in a blizzard, explore the mountains, and dig myself out in the morning!

If you're ever stranded in deep snow, make sure you clear a path from your exhaust pipe to allow the exhaust to reach open air before you run your car to stay warm. You cannot smell carbon monoxide and if the path is blocked by deep snow that gas will enter your car and kill you. That exact thing happened a few years ago when a group of twenty something's were stranded at a ski resort and fell asleep in the car with the heater going. Unfortunately not one of them woke up. The car, and the exhaust pipe were buried under deep snow.

As the proud daughter of s long haul daughter, I absolutely love to see trucks at the truck stop on a snowy night. There's a peace that I feel. It's snowing like crazy, interstate 5 is backed up due to a collision. And the trucks are at the truck stop resting. Peace of God be with our truckers and their semi's. I see a semi, I pray a fence of angels around them.

Its not only with snow, I do much car travel during my holidays, and already took my "rather-not-so-offroad-capable" BMW on some sketchy roads here there (not intentionally i am always careful, but you rely on the GPS in unknown areas and sometimes it happens) One time this was in eastern europe, in some woods at night with proper blair witch feeling, and the road kept getting worse. Then its not the question will I make it out without the embarassment needing roadside assistance but - "who and if will come for assistance around here if I called ?" 😂 - sure was a adrenaline trip until finding the way out. Even in western europe, travel can be "adventurous" I was chilling on some Highway resting area as feeling tired, when a police man suddenly appeared, knocked on the window and asked me to continue "for my own safety". So I am less afraid of the nature, rather of the weirdos running around.

I did that for 4 years in the colorado rockies. Loved every minute of it. Storms gave me a chance to rest, to sit in one spot for a couple days, and I enjoyed shoveling the snow. Alot, I made paths and stairs for fun. I made snow shelters for my generator, and I had propane , internet, and dvds. So all was lovely, 75-80 degrees in the van😊And I skied most every day, so I was thankful for those rests..

From my experience, as long as your front tires are turned in either direction, you’re not going anywhere. Plan it out so you can get going and build up a little speed first, then you can turn the tires. You should plan ahead when you park for the night to be able to do this the next day or whenever you leave. Hope this helps you and I really like your van and the way it’s set up. Was about to just say it, never turn your front wheels before you actually move, especially in snow. While van is not truck it's much havier then regular car, beside making it a lot harder to move in snow even on dry pavement turning in place puts heavy strain on everything that's connected to front wheels, in have vehicle it can even ruin front tires. Always move first then turn if you drive anything other then passenger car.

You are lucky to find a RR open, here in Maine our Governor & the Highway Department think that all the travelers should plug their lower orifices. Today it is November 3, 2023, the highway department has taken down the Rest Stop Signs & Boarded the RR (they did it on October 3rd). Real snow is months away but that does not matter to the Guardians of the Rest Stops. By the way how do you keep the cooking smell out, in my house the kitchen, dinning area & the living space is 25'x25', any heavy duty cooking is always done before 1.00 pm, exhaust fan runs & the bed rooms and bath room doors are kept closed during cooking. I would not like to take a shower & dry myself with a fish smelling towel.

I remember going up to a ski mountain a couple months ago. I started to walk towards my car at the end (since there was a snow storm and the mountain was closing) and the wind was so strong I could feel my body being forced to walk at an angle, and since there was no barrier or protection at the edge of the mountain, I was so scared. I stood behind a small house (with some other random people) and tried waiting for the wind to slow down, but it never did. So, I decided to start walking slowly to my car and when I was close enough, I used my phone to open my door and quickly ran to the drivers seat. My heart was beating so fast because I could have been blown away and could have had by life taken away from me.

I remember driving to work in a blizzard through 1 foot high snow drifts to find out they had closed the office that day due to the weather. Wow, these places really exist! Breathtaking! It’s like you’re in a literal Christmas card! I can’t believe our ancestors lived in that without modern conveniences! I saw a woman make a ‘beef’ stew in her car with mushrooms, onions, carrots and she cut up sliced roast beef. I think she added chicken broth and coleslaw! Something like that would be perfect or a pasta fagioli (Italian chili). Copycat recipe can be found online. It’s basically just opening cans, and dumping in a saucepan after browning your hamburger meat. It’s perfect for that weather!

Try Mac & cheese, the kind you boil that comes with the squeeze cheese in the foil bag. Also a can of chicken white meat is best. Cook Mac & cheese as directed, drain pasta add 1-2 table spoons butter or margarine & mix in cheese. If you have a microwave get a bag of mixed veggies from the frozen section. Get the microwavable steam kind. Nuke as directed & add everything to pot. It's so good. I call it chicken Mac🤗

As a trucker, I had a refrigerator and freezer with a microwave for cooking. I lived in my truck for 2 months at a time. Did you know that you can cook almost anything in a microwave? You can "fry" bacon on the cheap microwave plates? You can also make omelets and pancakes. Brownies and blueberry muffins can be done and even scrambled eggs. Seriously. You should try it. For instance, take a large potato, wash it, rub the outside with butter and salt. Poke it in places and wrap it in plastic wrap. Put it in the microwave for 7 minutes. Take it out and check, then leave it longer if needed. That's a healthy meal. Dare you to try it.

Use half the macaroni and sub the other items. Then I parmesan cheese it into submission. Easy one pan. I use frozen mixed veggies once in a while. If you make to boxes but only use one box of macaroni you can add all types of stuff.

Migas are delicious! The leftovers re-heat well. You’ll want to Google a recipe, but it’s basically beating up some eggs to scramble, adding some crumbled up tortilla chips right away, then scrambling. They can be made with jalapeño or similar. They can be served up with beans, rice, and or potato’s of any variety, and rolled up in a hot flour tortilla to make a breakfast taco if you like. I like them best as a dinner, especially on a cold night.
